Heywood Hospital – Gardner Reviews and Ratings
What patients and their families say about Heywood Hospital sits alongside the licensing and accreditation detail on this page. Reading the two together gives a fuller picture of this Gardner program than either gives alone.
Staff was very friendly. Dr. Kulmar is one of the best doctors I had the pleasure to meet. Very professional, knowledgeable and did his best to help my daughter.
Is a better hospital and they people are kindness
As someone with previous medical trauma, I am normally terrified of going to the emergency room. However, I was having breathing issues around midnight that I needed to get checked out. All of the staff that I… interacted with at Heywood had incredibly warm bedside manner. They were all the epitome of professionalism and very through in caring for me, and as a result I was entirely at ease for the nearly thirteen hours that I was admitted for. Thank you all for your care.
The wait tine in surgical day care is horrible. I had to come in at 1:30 and its 430 now and still waiting. I dont get it.
Very terrible experience..they told me to be here at 7:30 am ..an hour and a half later I'm still waiting..this is terrible!!!
I would just like to take a moment and thank all of the ladies in the “drawing room” for their phenomenal job well done with my daughter. It was my 7 yr old daughter’s first time getting blood drawn through a vein. They… handled her overwhelming fear, crying and, hyperventilating with patience and grace. After about 45 minutes we were able to get it done as a group effort. Their kindness towards myself and my daughter (also my 5yr old son who had to tag along) will never be forgotten. Thank you ladies! You rock!
Great small town hospital for taking care of loose diagnosis
This review is on behalf of my father. Last month he was in the emergency department. Dr Wilson was excellent!!! His persistence in finding out what was wrong was admirable. He is caring, professional and his experience… helped my father get back to better health. Our family appreciates the wonderful care he received that day from Dr Wilson and the staff. Thanks so much!!!
I was in emergency great job everyone was excellent doctor was very knowledgeable nurses and aides were wonderful thank you all
There were a couple kind nurses but 2 1/2 hours late at night with two kids one with a broken nose and not a doctor to be seen is just ridiculous! I don’t usually leave reviews and if I do, it’s usually positive. But… man there was a clogged sink full of Ensure, and we waited there for so long without my kid being seen at all. And it was at his doctors recommendation. If you care about getting in quickly and care about having empathic doctors, do not go to Heywood hospital.
Worst hospital and patient experience I’ve had in my life. Had to go to the emergency room because I was in severe pain and they refused to thoroughly examine me, dismissed my pain and suffering and told me that this… was not “life-threatening” I’m from Boston and have been to ER’s before and they have NEVER mistreated patients like this.
Dried blood splatter in the outpatient surgical bay. Got bubbles in my IV line. Rushed out as soon as I was conscious, had to insist to talk to the dr...he couldn't be bothered. Left with a useless script and no help.… Gyno's no better, got a 5 minute "why this isn't gynecological" then a 10 minute sales pitch for an IUD. Not to go into details but a conversation about perimenopause would have been more useful than some other reason acute pelvic pain could exist in my life. Surprised this disaster of a hospital has over two stars.
Saved my life.
So I had a Cat scan for calcium scoring over a month ago and it still has not been read. I have talked to the cardiology office and was told the doctor was really behind in his reports. My question is why are there at… least 4 doctors in that department. If you cannot read these in a timely manner then maybe Heywood should stop offering this service which you pay out of pocket for. Yet another disappointing experience with this Hospital.
In the past I have visited Haywood Hospital at the Gardner MA location for Xrays, ultrasound and CT imaging. Heywood Hospital in my opinion is a Gem. Unlike other hospitals, Heywood is perfectly located away from… chaotic traffic and congested busy streets. Including one-way streets as is the case in Boston or Worcester. In addition, Heywood provides plenty of free parking with cover for it's patients. The hospital is very clean, updated, and well maintained inside and out. The restrooms appear to be cleaned on a regular. The staff here have always been polite, professional, courteous and willing to help. Today I had an Xray scheduled and while at the patient registration I met Alice H. Alice has been working here for fifty-five years and was so friendly, kind, and helpful. Instead of given me verbal directions to the Xray department (It's been a while since my last visit) Alice H got up from her desk and accompanied me to the Xray area. Great lady I wish all staff were as kind and helpful as Alice H. I would also like to note the gentleman who preformed my Xray was equally as nice. 30 seconds to a minute and the entire process was complete. Conclusion: In the event someone needs imaging I highly recommend visiting Heywood in Gardner MA.
Prejudice hospital needs diversity training and a hefty lawsut when there today felt made the blame for my medical diagnosis also they hang up on you
Amazing staff with great bedside manners. Even met an equestrian!
The doctors are awesome, kind and caring. Always satisfied.
You have to prep for a colonoscopy for a minimum of 24 hrs. No food, drink the solution. Go to the bathroom for hours on end. Get to appointment dying of thirst and you are told to wait in waiting room. Totally… unacceptable. It’s been 40 minutes thus far and nothing. Rude staff!

heh.. this place is a joke. I had an appointment. one nurse takes me back and does the pre-check with vitals and asks me questions about my medications and reason for the visit. after waiting another half an hour before… the physician comes in, the first thing he says to me is, "why did you come here instead of going to somewhere in Worcester?". I explained that my referral has led me to making an appointment with him, and as I begin to explain he cuts me off and demands to know why I had not been seen by his nurse first. I said I had seen a nurse who brought me in and took my vitals, etc.. and he argued that I had not. 'His Nurse' comes in and confirms she has not seen me yet and I start to explain again that I had seen a different nurse. 'His Nurse' confirms that it was another nurse and he has 'His Nurse' run vitals, medications and pre appointment questions with me.. Again. without addressing me any further he just sends me to go get x-rays... After navigating through the hospital to go to imaging and waiting another hour, I was taken back and given a gown that had someone else's hair all over it. when I tell the woman who had taken me back and given the gown to me, that it was used and filthy she responds, "that's all we got." following her response, she turns and walks away as if that was a solution... this whole place is miserable and disgusting. I will never go back, nor let anyone I know go here either.
We just went today to the ER. My mom was told she might potentially have a tumor and has had a terrible headache for the past 4 days. We went here for the first time due to the wait time at leominster hospital. We were… told by the nurse when they called us in that we should have gone to leominster hospital and asked why we were even there. I then told her leominster hospital had mentioned they can only do certain studies and so we came here, she then told us well we cant do anything further that leominster hospital can do. She then asked if we called the main doctor about this. I asked my mom and she said they are going to schedule an mri but have not done so yet. She then said we needed to call the main doctor instead. We will never go here ever again. It was some older lady with white hair, had her hair down.
Parking can be tough. I have a handicap plaquard and often spots are full with non handicap vehicles. They are struggling with staffing and appointments can take a while, especially new patient appointments. I got… because I do have good providers in Spine clinic, cardiology and orthopedics.
First let me aay that my Dr's here are great. That said, I am handicapped, even if I wasn't my review would be the same. As I restrain myself from a lot of colorful language. The parking places available is beyond… lacking. You better get here an hour before your appointment if you don't want to be late while you search for a parking spot. You might have to park a couple football fields away. Why the dont build a parking garage is beyond my comprehension. Instead, the parking area is roofers by solar panels. So unsteady of moving the panels or placing them a top of a garage they force patients, handicapped or otherwise, walk a ridiculous distance. Go somewhere else, it may be a bit more of a drive, but walking will be a shorter distance, especially if you're handicapped.
My parents have been to the ER here many times over a couple of decades for different issues and have always had friendly staff who was able to resolve their immediate issues. I myself was here once with heart failure… and was given immediate treatment before being transferred to a hospital with bigger facilities.
Ive had two horrible experiences at the Heywood Pain Clinic. I am a trained CNA and I take care of a woman who has had a stroke and we came for her to get cortisone shots for her pain. Both times we have come it’s been… over 3 hours waiting time past the appointment times and the last experience was horrible, after waiting three hours the nurse Terry came into get her for the shots and claimed I wasn’t able to go into the X-ray room with her, when I explained that she may have a hard time getting onto the table I would like to be there to help she still said no and proceeded to ask me how she does stuff at home. I stated that her bed and chair at home go up and down and your table does not. When we came for the consult I was able to go into the room with her when she got her X-rays to help. She was extremely rude about the whole thing then she asks me if she can sign the paper for herself and I said yes she can. Terry then says that she is incompetent and can’t tell her what the date is right in front of her. I explained that she had a stroke and can understand everything you are saying she just can’t communicate it. After 20 minutes of me explaining that she is able to sign the paper she walks out shaking her head. Overall the experience was horrible and Terry should be fired. There was no reason to speak in front of her that way and you would think working in a hospital you would understand that not everyone is the same and some people need a little extra help. We will never be coming back here.
Terrible hospital. I was transported here by ambulance after a dirt bike crash. I injured several body parts including my shoulder, knee and toes. I was told my shoulder and knee were aggravated muscles. Went to a… different hospital a few days later because I was still in an incredible amount of pain. Well I ended up having a broken shoulder and torn acl in my knee which both required surgery. The staff at heyeood completely misdiagnosed me and mistreated me
