State Funded Rehab Centers in Massachusetts

State-funded rehab in Massachusetts is substance use treatment paid for with public money instead of private insurance or cash. The Bureau of Substance Addiction Services, part of the Department of Public Health, oversees the system and licenses the programs that deliver care, public and private alike.

Massachusetts residents looking for low-cost care will find here how the funding works, who can use it, how to start through the state helpline, and when MassHealth may be the better route. Listings for state-funded programs draw on government treatment registers, state licensing records, accreditor listings and details providers supply about themselves.

Common questions about State Funded Rehab

Answered from what is listed here.

Which Massachusetts cities have state-funded rehabs?

Start by looking at Roxbury Crossing, Worcester, Springfield, Pittsfield and Fall River, where listings for state-funded rehab in Massachusetts cluster. Calling a program in the nearest of those cities and asking about public funding, eligibility and current openings gives a quick sense of options.

Boston, Worcester and Springfield are the larger cities nearby. Anyone living outside them can still widen the search to neighboring towns, where publicly funded programs may sit closer to home.

Rehab Centers in Roxbury Crossinghttps://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/massachusetts/roxbury-crossing/
Do state-funded rehabs in Massachusetts take MassHealth?

Members with MassHealth, the state's Medicaid program, will find it recorded as accepted by nearly all of the state-funded rehabs in Massachusetts. Coverage runs through a member's plan, such as the Massachusetts Behavioral Health Partnership or WellSense Community Alliance, so confirming the program works with that plan is sensible.

Rehab Centers in Massachusetts That Accept MassHealthhttps://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/massachusetts/masshealth/
Are there state-funded rehabs near a river in Massachusetts?

Rivers sit close to state-funded care in Massachusetts: nearly all of the state-funded rehabs in the state have one within 25 miles, and the median distance from listed facilities to the nearest is about 2.3 miles. The most-named rivers are the Muddy River, Middle River and Whitman River.

How does state-funded addiction treatment work in Massachusetts?

State-funded treatment in Massachusetts is care the state pays licensed providers to deliver for residents who can’t pay through insurance. The Bureau of Substance Addiction Services, within the Department of Public Health under the Executive Office of Health and Human Services, pays state-contracted programs rather than running most care itself.

Funding comes from the federal Substance Use Prevention, Treatment, and Recovery Services Block Grant, for which the bureau publishes the state plan, along with state funds and opioid settlement money. Massachusetts places its share of settlement funds in the Opioid Recovery and Remediation Fund, with spending guided by an advisory council chaired by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.

Payment rates for publicly purchased programs are set in state regulation at Title 101 of the Code of Massachusetts Regulations, section 346.00. The rates in effect from July 1, 2026 are what the state pays a program, not a bill sent to a patient, and residential rehabilitation is priced without room and board.
