About Acadia Hospital – Bangor
Acadia Hospital operates from 268 Stillwater Avenue in Bangor. The site sits in Penobscot County, which shapes which public funding routes apply. Nearby communities include Brewer, Hampden and Old Town. Maine draws people across long distances for treatment, so travel time is worth weighing against waiting time.
Hospital inpatient care, partial hospitalization and outpatient care are delivered here, alongside medication-assisted treatment, an opioid treatment program, telehealth appointments and care for co-occurring mental health conditions. Which level fits depends on the assessment rather than on what is available, so the useful first question is what that assessment involves.

Treatment Services at Acadia Hospital
Hospital inpatient care, partial hospitalization and outpatient care run to a set weekly schedule, with evenings and weekends spent at home. That suits people holding down work or caring responsibilities, though it asks more of someone managing early recovery alone.
Buprenorphine, methadone and naltrexone are available and paired with counseling rather than prescribed alone. Trauma-specific services run alongside, which matters where the two are tangled together. Co-occurring mental health conditions are treated in the same building rather than split across providers.

Acadia Hospital Reviews and Ratings
Before contacting Acadia Hospital, it can help to read how patients and their families describe the program. Their reviews are collected in this section, along with reviews from around the web.
Daughter was there and its a free for all no rules no program nothing 2 months then d/c her after she told them she needed more help and i said i was not comfortable with her coming home nothing has been resolved and… bam they d/c her and 13 days later I had to call 911 so much for keeping our families safe and helping the sick get better NOT!
Went there from 2016-2023 through my life until i made it out. The medication they give you isn’t real. You feel better without it. 2N was fun and sometimes not. They do take care of the patients on christmas. The staff… can be into the drama as well. People would makeout in the gym bathrooms.
Northern Light Acadia Hospital pushed me further into psychosis by denying the existence of my very legitimate trauma. I was misdiagnosed, held against my will, forced to take medication that was damaging to my healing,… all for profit of Northern Light. Dr. Musavi is rude, cold, and did not attempt to understand me at any time that I attempted to communicate with her. There are a few kind staff members who can only do so much to be helpful because of the way the facility is run. Dr. Musavi could have helped me feel safe, but chose not to. I have reached out several times since then and patient advocacy could not even apologize properly to me for allowing me to be physically assaulted, twice, while in their care. They illegally held me for over a month last summer - I can only imagine how much they billed Mainecare for my abuse, because I have asked them and Mainecare and I am not allowed to be informed about that part of this puzzle, which probably says a lot.
Acadia caused a complex trauma nervous breakdown resembling poisoning, and was harassing. I especially remember lying staff and dr Salisbury, who ordered a $15,000 genetic pointless test she can't read and who was… communicating with my now deceased father, a decades known abuser. After I became worse, when I was admitted " not incapacitated" I then lost my job dur to wasted time there, and was moved after they failed to protect me from a sex offender, and we're giving me harmful drugs I can't take that were known to be toxic over a 40 year period.
all throughout my childhood, my sister took her medications through Acadia and was EXTREMELY over medicated. they kept adding on more and more instead of waiting until the rest was out of her system, so she was angry… and miserable all the time. my parents were afraid to leave her at home because she genuinely wasn’t capable to be by herself. it ruined all of us. i was scared of my own sister, and i remember the screaming matches she would have with my dad that ended in throwing things and sobbing. she was so depressed and unhappy. and it’s because of you guys. looking back on it now, we could’ve sued you so easily. my sister is the kindest soul and i can’t even imagine her doing those things anymore. i am so angry that she had a terrible childhood because of a stupid company that didn’t know what they were doing.
Rude front desk.
They refused to make a reasonable accomodation for my disability and the counseling supervisor Jeanie is nasty! After speaking with other medical professionals they agreed with me what Acadia Hospitals Counseling… program is doing is disgusting to force people out of therapy because they have been there to long. Absolutely gross.
Update- I have been going here for mental health for about 15 years. It started out awesome! I had an awesome nurse that I saw everytime I went in. After many years she moved on, like a lot do. Since then it's gone way… down hill. Mostly due to staffing issues and a NP that didn't know anything about the conditions she was treating for. The real reason I'm updating has to do with there opioid addiction treatment clinic. Ive been in recovery since 2014. I haven't been able to get off due to the mental issues. I worked to get my take homes and have had them since way before COVID. During COVID, I was approved for extra take homes making it 13. I had them for years. A couple of years ago they switched to a different testing facility. This drug test is supposed to be the best. That may true but they aren't 100% accurate. There website tells you that. The issue I'm having is that the clinic is acting like it's 100% and that every result is accurate. Ive had 3 of there tests and every one has come back positive. First one said cocaine, the second was said something else and the 3rd one came back with cocaine again. My addiction was to pain killers because of a doctor that wouldn't address my pain after having fell twice. That's the only thing I ever took! They wouldn't do a retest. They took half of my take homes because they knew me and didn't "believe " I was taking anything on purpose?! I take a bunch of meds that are known to show up as different things. None of them individually test as cocaine but what about together? Nobody can answer that question because they haven't done the research on it. I used to trust that place. I used to trust my "team". It's been almost 2 years that I have been trying to get the rest of my take homes back. I have done everything correct, I have cut everyone out of my life so that there's no chance of coming into contact with anything that I'm not supposed to. I do nothing and only go to my mom's and my uncle's. Non of it has done me any good. It definitely hasn't helped my mental issues. There is no way to prove the test is wrong. I tried to talk to someone at the company that created the test. Of course I didn't get an answer back. So I wouldn't recommend coming here where you're always guilty and have no way to prove otherwise. My only option is to go down on my dose even though it will make my mental health go further down then it already is. There are waiting lists for every where else. Update- There adult med management leaves a lot to be desired at this time. I've been through 3 or 4 different providers in the last 14ish months. The person I had been seeing for years moved on. Since then it's been horrible! I end up having to go over everything at each apt because it's someone new and they obviously haven't reviewed my records before the apt. I'm about ready to go somewhere else because this has been the worst year of my life. It's a good thing I'm not suicidal!
they made me want to kill myself. they lied multiple times saying i took pills that i never took. multiple shots every day for weeks on end. this place sucks. they really know how to make you worse and how to collect… insurance money
I can only speak for my personal experiencel; in-patient treatment was an absolute blessing. The care team took time for us regardless of how busy they were in the moment. I feel like I am whole again after utilizing… the resources and appreciate the staff of C2 endlessly. 🙏🏽 This place helped me save myself.
I was 12 years old when i was admitted in 2018, There were slots open on both North Side and South Side, I was placed on North next to a 19 year old who constantly talked about sex and how often she had it and how many… people she had it with. A week into my stay a slot opened on south and when I asked staff to be transferred as I felt I would feel as though I would've fit in more and was told that it would "Do more harm than good" to move me over. During my stay my life was threated twice by the same patient over looking in his direction the wrong way (Direct quote from the patient) Also During my stay I was told that by a tall black patient I would be able to "see the bones in body protruding out of my skin" from how bad he would beat me if i didn't give him the Radio i had in my room.
Ok I will give staff 5 ☆ on friendliness that's all I can give 5☆ on. While I spent over a week there I had to advocate for myself daily and fight with staff because they refuse to listen to their patients. They kept… trying to force a medication on me that was not compatible with the series of heart and water pills I was on. I told them what would happen if I went on that pill which resulted in unstable blood pressure they wouldn't listen. I had to fight with the kitchen in regards to what was heart healthy and what isn't DAILY. While there I got covid because they didn't enforce hand washing or wearing masks with other patients HELLO COMPROMISED IMMUNE SYSTEM DUE TO A HEART ISSUE !!!! They didn't seem to give a shit that much. While in quarantine they knew I was trying to talk to the dietician because of the kitchen just giving me what they felt like and not follow the heart healthy diet that I was supposed to strictly follow. They lied to the dietician and said I was preoccupied with something what was I preoccupied with coloring or reading a book ? They constantly had my anxiety on a 10 from a 1 to 10 scale because of these issues. The only 2 assets to that ward are Samantha and Chelsea. If you value your mental health DO NOT go here you will end up with unnecessary medications and your anxiety levels higher than what you walked in with. Go somewhere else. Many places in the medical field laugh at this place and apologize for going there. That tells you a lot.
When I asked to leave this facility I was "blue papered" as a result I lost my right to own firearms forever. I feel like Dr Musavi tricked me... As a former member of the U.S. Coast Guard I was shocked to find how… poorly this place is run. The horrible reviews make sense.
Most staff is kinda and some of the staff honestly don't know how to do their job. I have been to acadia twice in 2025 at 14 years old. Not only did the staff lie to me about why they moved my friends units but they… also stood there and watched me punch my wall not helping me at all. I don't agree with the needles they put into us when we act up like jeez were just kids most of us will stop and talk if we're treated how human beings should be treated.
So thankful for the personalized care and compassion this organization offers its patients. We applaud your competence, attention and kind bedside manner as you care humanely for the suffering and cause wellness! Thank… you in advance!
It shouldnt surprise me that they have a 2.6 star review. I really loved Acadia and it such a shame to post this. I was treated extremely poorly by staff today and because they wanted to treat me poorly because I have a… past this woman made up all kinds of ignorant stuff and lies to back track me. I am just in awe with how I was just treated. I will be going elsewhere and I will absolutely be telling everyone how ignorant I was treated and how disrespectful staff was to me and then manipulated my test. Very disappointed in Acadia right now
I’ve had services here since I was a teen, everyone has seemed very willing to get to the bottom of what’s going on. Therapy services saved my life here.
Worst hospital in MAINE!
I been calling them to check in one my girlfriend and they kept hanging up on me, I need to call her to update her on information and I can't talk to her. they just keep hanging up.
Not rating the hospital itself just it’s representatives I suppose, my sister was asking for help in terms of social services because of her mother and they told her she was in denial and sent her to here. They say… they’ll listen and then they did that.
I've been here multiple times since I was young and while I was young it was horrible but once they built the new building they made it an extremely comfortable and accepting place and the staff were amazing I have a… few that I still miss and it's been a few months since I was there. The treatment was extremely helpful. The only complaint I have is the kitchen the food is barely ever fully cooked and they get the patients orders wrong majority of the time but the staff always go down and make them fix your order for you.
My daughter and son have been reviving med management there for several years. I can not speak highly enough of Arcadia. From the Dr/Clinician to the nurses and support staff. They are caring, professional and go above… and beyond.
Very disappointed.
Horrible Horrible business practice. After my sons Provider left, we saw a fill in provider then after that appointment I requested that Acadia Hospital discharge him because his primary care doctor was taking over his… care. The idiots here didn't discharge him and had scheduled him for another appointment which I didn't realize he even had until a few days before the contacted me about it. I told them to cancel it and I also told them yet again to discharge him from care because his primary doctor was taking over his care. Then these idiots have the never to send a nasty letter about his misses appointment and had to never to say he had been discharged from their service because of the missed appointment that I called to cancell 3 days prior. No wonder why this place has financial issues and keeps losing its providers. Don't go here. Completely Incompetent...
