I'm currently a resident at Olympia house. And to say the least, I am not impressed. I've been at this rehab three prior times and all three times were a moving experience for me. The staff was professional. Therapist… are true psychologists. This time I'm embarrassed to say that I am a resident here. There was a 10-year gap since i was last here and I am Looking forward to my exit day. I don't know what the hell happened to this program, but I feel like it's being run by a bunch of kids who don't have any experience in what a residential rehab is supposed to be like.
By far. the best (out of 7 total) rehab facilities I've ever been to. They actually do trauma therapy, and you get sessions with a licensed psychologist twice a week, in addition to your drug counselor. The very best… therapists I have EVER worked with. And the best drug counselor I've ever had. I've been looking for therapy like this, and the answers I got at Olympia House, for 20 years. They are the most skilled, caring, and professional team of people I've ever worked with in mental health. I'm dual diagnosis, so I've been seeing professionals for my mental health for 25 years. Some of their curriculum is custom, developed in house by the psychologists there—you won't find tools like these anywhere else. I have a custom designed "addictive system" I use every day to track where I am in my recovery and mental health. I use this not only to prevent relapses, but correct myself if I run off course, and this works not just for substance relapses but also things like depression, anxiety, and anger. Their website doesn't reflect this, but they take Kaiser Permanente insurance now. That's the only reason I was able to come here. I know reviews are inflated on the Internet, but please trust me, I swear with every fiber of my being and every ounce of integrity I have, this is likely the best rehab in California. If you have trauma, and most people do, or some form of PTSD, this is the place you should go. They also focus on finding meaning and purpose in life--and they will definitely help you with that. They also allow you to come back to the rehab twice a year for 2-3 days for free! They call it a "tune up". No one else I know of does this. There's also free group therapy for alumni (a process group led by one of the therapists there) once a week via Zoom. I would wake up many times in OH in disbelief that this place exists at all, and that I got to be a resident here. They've made an enormous difference in the outcome of my life. ******ADDENDUM****** I recently read a review of OH where someone on the autism spectrum had a difficult experience. I'm sorry to hear that, but I simply wanted to say I'm (diagnosed) autistic (ASD 1/Aspergers) myself and felt that OH not only understood the strengths and limitations that can come with that, but also caused me to realize I had overestimated how different I was from my peers because of my autism. I still have it, of course, but the result of being at OH was a clearer picture of its actual impact in my life, particularly with peer relationships. I can't thank them enough for helping me with this, I have a much healthier social life today as a result.
First the facility and the land it's on is beyond beautiful. Couldn't ask for a better place to wake up everyday while recovering. Everyone that works for O.H genuinely cares. They make u feel like you unique and… special. They offer soo many different activities and teach you so much about yourself and addiction. They give you the tools and resources for when you leave. They do not turn anyone away UNLESS you require more specialized care being that they are not a hospital with a doctor on site. By far the best rehab in northern California
Olympia House Rehabilitation in Petaluma, California saved my life as well as countless others! The intense inpatient program includes psychologists, counselors, process group meetings, group classes, one on one… meetings as well as yoga, guided meditation, animal therapy, garden, therapy, art and music too. Olympia House is situated on quiet, peaceful, and safe, 100+ acre farm/ranch. The doctors, couselors, and staff all work to help identify the root cause of the core distortions that contribute to substance abuse. The focus of the residents mind, body, and spirit are all addressed. Additionally, there is a lifetime of free continuous care for the alumni that includes zoom process groups, AA/NA meetings, visits once a year for two days at the house. The alumni portion of treatment is all free of charge. I cannot say enough good things regarding Olympia House. I highly recommend this program. Thank you, Sherry P.
When I leave boy will I have a list A MILE LONG 😁👍 of reasons why I'm still living my best life clean, sober and mentally healthier all the time #blessedbyOH
If you’re on the fence about treatment make the leap and take back your life. This place truly saved my life. Without Olympia house and all of the staff I wouldn’t be here to write this review. The support and care… receive here is unmatched. They truly want to help you and make your life a better place for you to exist. I can’t say enough good things about this place and the treatment I got. I’ll forever be thankful for everyone in this program. Huge shout out to my care team Senadhi, Wendy, and Daniel. I could go on all day about how amazing this program is. Save yourself and get your life back it will be the best decision you’ve ever made. THANK YOU OH!
Olympia House Rehab was a transformative experience. The food was excellent, and the comfortable accommodations ensured a good night's sleep. The tranquil farm setting was perfect for unwinding. The daily classes were… insightful and provided the tools I needed to continue my sobriety. Highly recommended for anyone seeking help with chemical dependency and wants their life back.
“Counselor” Lisa needs to work on her professionalism. Gossiping with clients and making disparaging remarks in regards to people who call to speak to a client is not where it’s at. Staff need to realize that (2) weeks… of semi-cohabitation with psychotropic medicated and alcohol free clients does not make for a close or informed relationship. Oftentimes people who call in (at request of clients) have cohabitated with them for decades & endured outrageous amounts of abuse and suffering at the hands of their mental illness and alcoholism. As a person who worked as a “counselor” at a dual diagnosis residential treatment center in her 20’s, I can confidently say these programs are a joke.
This has been a horrific experience! First they gave my daughter the wrong medications. Then they let her use her phone at all times to contact drug dealers. Then they let her go with a strange man who did drugs with… her. This is just a place to hold drunks for awhile. But this is the second time she left OH to go strait back to drugs and dangerous behavior. They are not qualified to give real therapy or recovery. They are mostly x addicts and do not have a medical background. They do not even communicate to the patients physicians. Avoid!!!!!
Olympia house and the amazing practitioners and staff members have saved my life, nurtured my growth and long term sobriety, always gone to bat for me, and gone above and beyond for me in so so so many ways. I will be… forever grateful for clinicians: Senadhi, Ginny, Cassandra and Hilary in particular, and staff members Chris, Matthew, Mische, Daniel, Jonathan, Lisa, Kendra, and Ed. As I continue to recover, grow, and live my best life, I will find my own special way to give back and honor the people and organization that has given me so much.
Olympia house is special. Sacred. 2 things make this place special: the therapy model and the really tight knit alumni circle. I’ve been in and out of treatment for 20 years and went I first came to OH 6 years ago I… immediately felt this place was different. OH is unique in that some of my absolute closest friendships are from OH. This is possible because of Tune ups and alumni meetings. OH is the only place I’ve ever been that reserves two beds AT ALL TIMES for alumni to come for 2 days FOR FREE. So at any given time you might meet someone with 3 years and see what time in recovery can look like. It also allows people to stabilize during a hard time BEFORE a relapse. Seriously 3 out of 4 of my closest friends are from Olympia House. Connection is the opposite of addiction and OH embodies this. I still come every week to the Thursday alumni meeting. I did a few rounds of trauma work with Senadhi who created the clinical program. It really changed my life. Olympia house is one of the few places in the area that is still privately owned. The founder specifically organized the program to help people not to make make money. (Sometimes to their own detriment). Like any tx it’s not perfect. I have seen people slip thru the cracks sometimes. It can usually be remedied by being proactive. Also they offer many peer support groups not just 12 step which was important to me. My therapist even came to visit me in the hospital after I had a serious overdose. They really care. This place has heart. For me it’s a life long connection. Thank you OH 💛
I have tried several times to get sober. I found the tools taught here and the amount of individual therapy to be exactly what I needed. Everyone on staff I interacted with were very professional and truly cared about… the clients. The 90 days I spent at O.H. were life changing! I continue to participate in the alumni meeting and work with my therapist I was assigned to. It has been a rewarding experience. I feel confident that I can maintain quality sobriety for life!
Olympia House saved my life! I went to OH at the lowest point in my life. The care I received there changed the course of the rest of my life. I have been sober over a year now and OH was the first step! The staff is… absolutely amazing. Every individual that works there is incredibly caring and supportive. I saw my licensed therapist 2x per week and my AOD counselor 2x per week. This helped me get to the root of my addiction. The classes each day teach you how to be a successful person is recovery. I also participated in yoga which is offered every week and I participated in equine therapy. We residents played beach volleyball- this made us feel normal. The accommodations are next level. The homes are lovely little cottages set on a beautiful hillside with a stunning view. The menu is healthy and delicious. I loved the daily salad bar! There isn’t a better place to take a break from life and focus on your recovery. OH will always hold a special place in my heart! ❤️Nicole
olympia house is life-changing - this is a real place of healing, a refuge, and an oasis where you can unplug surrounded by nature and supportive, peaceful people. olympia house recognizes your individuality and… provides community at the same time. they will also feed you wonderful, freshly prepared food and accommodate your dietary needs and preferences, no matter how unique. they cater to the whole spectrum of spiritual needs, and provide multiple options for meetings and multiple therapeutic modalities, all of which are voluntary. there are very secular meeting options as an alternative to AA/NA and nothing here feels cult-like, which is surprisingly rare in recovery. i have had remarkably terrible experiences with therapy, including in an abusive residential boarding school as a teen. olympia house is a remarkably *good* place. they do more than treat addiction here. they will really help you work through the root issue. their clinical director, senadhi, recognized the truth of my family system and helped me recover from my mother's munchausen's by proxy and my own post-traumatic stress. he is a gifted, highly skilled, experienced healer and significantly more intuitive and intelligent than most clinicians. his alumni group has really helped me stay sober, and i have over 2 years clean without any other meetings or support. i do not even have sober friends or family on my team, but olympia house has helped me get through it as a source of healing energy, community, and motivation to continue my personal growth. i can tell you that olympia house is a rare gem, and the level of respect they have shown toward my humanity, individuality, and freedom to make my own choices is a really special thing as well. they do not take a one-size-fits-all approach, won't put you in a box, and they serve everyone. P.S. to anybody who is wondering, this place is definitely queer friendly and values diversity.
Absolutely brilliant. It works. The team is incredible.
When I first got to Olympia House for my 30 day stay, some of the other residents whom I lovingly call "frequent flyers" assured me that, of my other options I was looking at, I'd essentially hit the rehab jackpot… coming here. Any one star reviews you'll find here are from people who fail to understand that rehab facilities and staff can only help you or your loved ones if you/they are ready to put in the effort to recover from addiction. If you participate and most importantly LISTEN, the staff there is incredibly equipped and eager to assist you. The facility is on a farm, which isn't everyone's cup of tea, but the inside of the buildings are cleaned daily, and the food is not just plentiful, but actually delicious. The animals have recently been incorporated into therapy on the weekly "wellness day," which is the sole reason for choosing this rehab for some people. They also allow people to bring their dogs for an additional fee (I'm not sure what the policy is for service animals). Night staff does their best to come up with fun activities like movie night, dice games, and karaoke so that residents can experience some normalcy in a very low time for their self esteem and mental health. Areas of betterment would be the staff shortage and hectic schedule changes I experienced in my collective 40 days there, but it's worth noting that the job is high-stress and often worked by people in recovery themselves, so turnover is imminent. They do their best and you can see the effort. Therapists do have an issue with publicizing private client conversations, which was by far the most upsetting thing. They can also tend to play favorites with the residents, and form biases against some who are genuinely trying their best but perhaps don't have the most palatable attitude. If you're truly going to rehab with intentions of getting and KEEPING your body and mind clean from substances, these glitches are worth working through, and a solid foundation for your recovery can still be achieved in spite of them. I would say your chances are better here than anywhere else. At the end of the day, I am not only alive because of Olympia House, but my days aren't spent suffering anymore. That's an experience worth recommending.
Olympia House saved my life twice. I’m sad to see the bad reviews because that was so far from my experience. The staff is loving and care a great deal. Most are addicts so truly understand. I continue to work with the… therapist I had when I was there over a year ago. No rehab is a magic wand. You have to want it and be dedicated to make it work. I still visit there often because it became my safe space. Although sometimes it was incredibly difficult and made me want to leave at some points, I was able to dig through my traumatic past which has led me to still be sober today.
Money money money. That is what this place cares about. If you’re looking for a place that wants just your money. You found it. If you’re looking for a place that cares and wants to help I’d look elsewhere.
The staff here did not give my struggling family member a chance. He was turned away when he needed help most. They aren't equipped to handle true addiction and mental illness and it shows.
I can't speak well enough about Olympia House- I sincerely have a new lease on life thanks to the orchestrated efforts of their stellar staff. I stayed for over 30 days- and although it was absolutely the most… emotionally taxing thing I have ever had to do- it was the most transformative. Unlike most rehab centers which are 12-step based- OH is evidence-based and teaches you emotional tolerance, relapse prevention, and a TON of processing groups and individual therapy to get down to WHY you drank. Not just praying to God for another day sober (which works too for some people). Of course, there are 12-step meetings available on-site and some 12-step education since this is the standard in peer-based recovery but they do not push one program over the other. There are also Life Ring, SMART Meetings, and Refuge Recovery. The staff there are world-class and know what they are doing. Of course there are administrative hiccups that occur (see some of the other posts) - which do occur when you are managing a large group of people. But they pale in comparison to the life-changing treatment you will receive here. The therapists are knowledgable, compassionate, and highly-skilled. The Drug and Alcohol Counselors are wise, empathetic, and insightful. The kitchen staff are SUPER friendly! The rest of the staff are friendly, accessible, and ready to help. Please, if you are considering making the choice to change you life for the better- consider Olympia House. I am so grateful that I did.
The staff, the love, kindness, and also the pushing me to open up (which is required by us scared, isolated, lonely resentful addicts) absolutely changed my life. l have been to other rehabs. This is beyond my ability… to state the way they(OH) teach, love, center, ground and push you to get through the first step all us addicts go through is denial. They look at the WHOLE person and individualize a plan since each of is is very different. We all have for different reasons for use. They offer different modalities of access to support groups. OH becomes family. The staff are some of the most open, honest, and truly caring people I have ever encountered. The land Olympia House is on also has an amazing story. Call me crazy if you want, but I've had more spiritual experiences, never laughed harder in my life, and met people there who have become my beacon of light in the hope and journey out of my addiction that is supportive daily. There is no cure, but there is a solution. The love, truth, care and compassion the staff offers here is like nothing else. I was blessed with an opportunity to have had this experience. I am now the grateful ADDICT people speak of. Addiction kills. Its a disease. Olympia House finds and individualizes and Taylor's to each human being that walks into their program. You are seen. You are heard. You can just be. You get the help you need if you're willing to be honest and open. You gain a family you never had before. And most of us eventually gain abstinence. if you struggle with drugs, alcohol, trauma, other mental health issues, please come join our loving, supportive family. My deepest gratitude to all the people who do the hard work, to all the people who came before me, and to all the people who come after me. It's a new life. And it's a beautiful one. There is hope. connection is the opposite of addiction. don waste another moment of your precious time saying you will do it one day. do it now. it takes time to change. And once you come here, you will feel that somewhere someone always has your back. much love to all of the suffering addicts and the children caught in the crossfire.
Peaceful setting for those who are ready to work toward introspective and meaningful recovery education. Top notch clinical staff and counseling, if you advocate for what you need they happily accommodate. Olympia House… has changed my life and has provided the tools I need to stay in recovery. I have the education now it is up to use these skills.
Great program, horrible staff. Came in with a PTSD diagnosis and a history of sexual abuse (adult), emotional abuse (adult +childhood) and emotional neglect (childhood). When I spoke about these things in individual… therapy I felt ignored & invalidated. I brushed the feeling aside for a while knowing I sense that where it doesn't exist at times, but eventually asked for a different therapist because I felt I couldn't discuss trauma with that one at all. I was told no because I "have a pattern of breaking connection with therapists". I've seen the same one for 5yrs and before that saw the same one for 9yrs, that's an outright lie and I'm not sure how they came to that conclusion. I was forced to continue working with her. The whole time I felt as though she saw me as a spoiled brat who couldn't accept that life is unfair & wanted to control everything. On the contrary I simply wanted empathy and someone to say "yeah the things that happened to you are unfair and I'm sorry you had to go through that". I experienced a couple instances of verbal abuse from another client and instead of receiving empathy was criticized for not simply moving forward. A staff member made an ableist comment towards me about my sensory processing disorder (I'm autistic), I attempted conflict resolution with him and got nowhere. Instead of addressing the inappropriate behavior of the staff member I was again told to just get over it. I had a few trauma reactions, one of which was prolonged and involved a large degree of unwarranted paranoia about the intentions of other clients. Instead of helping me to feel safe & recognize it as paranoia I was criticized for not focusing on my treatment. Staff here preaches creating a safe environment but only behaves as if they care about physical safety. Emotional safety is discussed in trauma group but not anywhere else, and if you bring up feeling unsafe opening up without being under threat of physical harm you'll be treated like a joke then criticized when you can't open up in therapy or group. They can't seem to recognize PTSD when it manifests with less stereotypical experiences such as emotional flashbacks, anhedonia and other symptoms more unique to C-PTSD. And if they don't believe you're traumatized then everything you do is treated as an active choice to misbehave rather than a symptom you're struggling to cope with or an underlying trauma that needs processing. I came in with a PTSD diagnosis given to me by someone who had seen me twice a week for five years and in two months had it dropped by a therapist who heard me talk about my flashbacks, specifically using the word flashback, and then in our last session asked if I had flashbacks as a way of proving I don't have PTSD. As if I hadn't said that I did at least three times before in our sessions. I was told the trauma that I've spent the past five years in therapy learning not to minimize wasn't enough to count as traumatic, being here did not help me. On the contrary it pushed me back nearly five years in my trauma recovery. And when your PTSD symptoms are a primary reason that you use drugs that's not particularly helpful for addiction recovery. I believe the structure of the program itself is incredible, the best I've seen, but the attitude of the staff is dangerous. I know many people who came out of this program much better off, I just also happen to know that I'm not one of them and that's not for lack of trying or wanting to get better. Although I'm sure staff would state otherwise since they saw my skepticism towards them as help rejecting behavior instead of the result of years of (sometimes traumatic) experience with abusive and/or incompetent mental health professionals. As well as 20 years spent learning what doesn't work for me. I came home and realized how manipulated, scared & confused I really felt while I was here. I can't even begin to cover how it affected me within the character limit google reviews have. But I've repeatedly had nightmares about this place since coming home, I think that says enough really.
Olympia House is absolutely amazing and one of a kind. I did my homework and checked out several other options, but i did not find any other facility that offers the same level of treatment. At OH you are assigned a… drug or alcohol counselor AND a licensed therapist, and they help you determine any underlying diagnosis you may need, such as depression, anxiety, ADHD, Etc. You cant recover from addiction without the proper medical diagnosis and then determining and addressing the underlying causes behind your use. And most important of all, OH helps you re-learn routine and encourages you to connect with the other patients. The opposite of addiction is connection. It was wonderful being there and bonding with the other patients in a great setting. The staff actually cares and they facilitate your recovery process pretty well. Just one tip is be very proactive and don't wait for them to come tell you when to meet with who. I only went for 2 weeks and wish i could have had more meetings with counselors. Its a great place for people who are ready to recover. Maybe not as much for someone who is being pushed to rehab. But i am so glad i went to OH!
Beware. No security here. Filthy. Smells. Awful place. Do not send your loved ones here if you want results.
Here in 2018. The variety of options with education is fantastic and the therapists can't be beat. If you need some TLC combined with serious treatment then Olympia House is the place to be.
I want to Olympia house at a very difficult time in my life. I had been a first responder for 25 Years And I forgotten to learn to take care of myself. The Professional staff including therapists and drug and alcohol… counselors gave me the skills I needed to take care of myself and to make better decisions in my life. As a dual diagnosis facility it treats addiction but also digs into the root causes of it with each individual person. I've been clean and sober for a year-and a 1/2 now and I still maintain my relationships with the people from Olympia house and there some of the healthiest friendships I've ever had. I would recommend it to anybody who's serious about changing their life.
