Rehabs That Take Youth Care

YouthCare is an Illinois Medicaid health plan for children and young people in or formerly in state child welfare care. Coverage can include drug and alcohol treatment, varying by plan, network and level of care.Illinois programs listed here name YouthCare on their own websites. Caseworkers, foster parents and guardians often coordinate treatment for young members, so involve them early. Before admission, contact the facility and YouthCare to check that the program is in network, whether prior authorization or a referral is needed, and whether any cost may apply. The plan’s care coordinators can also help arrange a step down to outpatient support after a residential stay.

Every listing has a source: an official register, a licensing record, or details the facility sent us.

Credentials shown honestly. Accreditation, licensing and registration listed separately.

Reviews shown exactly as written. Never edited, never removed because a facility asked.

No commission, no referral fees. Nothing a facility pays for changes where it appears.

Contact details always go direct. Calls reach the facility itself, never a call centre.

Common questions

Answered from what is listed here.

What is YouthCare insurance?

YouthCare HealthChoice Illinois is the Illinois Medicaid specialty managed care plan for youth in Department of Children and Family Services care and former youth in care, from birth through age 21. It covers medical, behavioral health, dental, vision and pharmacy services, including substance use care under its MindCare benefit.

Illinois Healthcare and Family Services contracts the program, and Meridian Health Plan of Illinois, part of Centene Corporation, runs it. Member Services answers on 844-289-2264.

Medicaid Rehabhttps://rehabseekers.com/insurance-accepted/medicaid/
Is YouthCare Medicaid?

Yes, YouthCare is Medicaid coverage. It is a specialty plan inside HealthChoice Illinois, the state's Medicaid managed care program, rather than a commercial insurer. There are no employer, marketplace or Medicare products under the YouthCare name, and covered services carry no member cost sharing.

Enrollment is arranged for the member: the DCFS Guardianship Administrator enrolls youth in care, while former youth in care are enrolled automatically.

Medicaid Rehabhttps://rehabseekers.com/insurance-accepted/medicaid/
Is YouthCare the same as Meridian?

No, but the two are closely tied. YouthCare is part of the Meridian family of plans and is operated by Meridian Health Plan of Illinois, which also handles claims administration. The Meridian Medicaid Plan is a separate HealthChoice Illinois plan serving the general Medicaid population.

Both sit under Centene Corporation, whose brands also include Ambetter, Wellcare and Health Net. YouthCare has its own member card, network rules and authorization lines.

YouthCare HealthChoice Illinois is a Medicaid health plan, not a commercial insurer. It covers young Illinoisans in Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) care and former youth in care, from birth to age 21, and addiction treatment sits inside that benefit at no cost to the member.

The plan is run by Meridian Health Plan of Illinois under contract with the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services, and Meridian belongs to Centene Corporation. There is one product under the YouthCare name, with no marketplace, employer or Medicare version, so a card reading YouthCare HealthChoice Illinois tells an admissions team most of what it needs to know: Illinois Medicaid, specialty plan, member under 21.

Coverage for former youth in care began on February 1, 2020, and youth in DCFS care moved onto the plan on September 1, 2020. The guide below sets out which levels of substance use care are paid for, the notification rules that replaced ordinary prior authorization in 2026, what a family or caseworker can expect to pay, how medication for opioid use is handled, and how to find a program that holds a YouthCare contract.
