Sober Living Homes in Kentucky

Sober living homes in Kentucky, also called recovery residences, are shared houses where alcohol and drug use isn’t allowed and residents support each other’s recovery. Kentucky requires certification. Since July 1, 2024, anyone operating or advertising a recovery residence in the state must be certified by a cabinet-approved certifying organization.

The listings below draw on government treatment registers, state licensing records, accreditor listings and the details providers send in themselves. Close to half of the Kentucky sober living listings sit in urban areas and about four in ten are rural. Mount Vernon, Louisville and Morehead appear most often as home locations.

Common questions about Sober Living

Answered from what is listed here.

Which Kentucky cities have sober living homes?

Mount Vernon comes first among the Kentucky places where sober living listings cluster, followed by Louisville, Morehead, Owensboro and London. Larger cities nearby include Lexington, Louisville and London, which matters for anyone fitting recovery housing around work, court dates or outpatient appointments in a nearby city.

Rehab Centers in Mount Vernonhttps://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/kentucky/mount-vernon-ky/
Can I use Kentucky Medicaid for sober living?

Aetna Better Health of Kentucky and the state's other Medicaid plans are worth checking first, because nearly all of the sober living homes in Kentucky record accepting Kentucky Medicaid.

Coverage depends on the plan a member is enrolled in, whether Humana Healthy Horizons in Kentucky, Passport Health Plan by Molina Healthcare, UnitedHealthcare Community Plan or WellCare of Kentucky. Asking intake staff which costs the plan covers prevents surprises.

Rehab Centers in Kentucky That Accept Kentucky Medicaidhttps://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/kentucky/kentucky-medicaid/
Which sober living homes in Kentucky are close to a river?

A median of about 17.2 miles separates sober living homes in Kentucky from the nearest river, and a river lies within 25 miles of nearly all of the sober living homes in Kentucky. Distances are measured from each home.

The most-named rivers are the Dix River, the Salt River and the Middle Fork Little Sandy River. Residents comparing homes can ask the house manager how far the nearest river sits.

Rehab Centers Near Rivershttps://rehabseekers.com/attractions/rivers/

What is a sober living home, and how is it different from rehab?

A sober living home in Kentucky is alcohol- and drug-free shared housing, not a treatment program, which is the main difference from rehab. Residents pay rent and follow house rules, and during the day they usually hold jobs, attend outpatient care or go to mutual-help meetings.

Residential rehab is a different setting. A licensed program provides clinical care on site, and in Kentucky those programs are licensed by the Cabinet for Health and Family Services’ Office of Inspector General. Correctional halfway houses differ again, because they house people under corrections supervision rather than people choosing recovery housing.

Many Kentuckians move into a recovery residence after residential treatment, or while attending an intensive outpatient program. Kentucky requires recovery residences to hold certification, and the Kentucky Recovery Housing Network handles it, so ask a home for its current certificate and support level before moving in.
