Treatment Centers in Kentucky That Accept Aetna

In Kentucky, Aetna’s drug and alcohol rehab coverage runs mainly through Aetna Better Health of Kentucky, one of the five Kentucky Medicaid plans and the only plan for SKY, the state’s program for youth in foster care and the juvenile justice system. Aetna also insures and administers employer plans for Kentucky workers.

Open any Aetna listing below to see the program’s own number, the services it offers (from a residential bed to an intensive outpatient group or medication treatment) and its Joint Commission or CARF status. The listings come from Kentucky state licensing files and federal treatment registers; narrow them by town or by service.

Why Trust RehabSeekers.com?

RehabSeekers is an independent behavioral health directory covering drug and alcohol addiction and mental health treatment providers.

Every listing has a source: an official register, a licensing record, or details the facility sent us.

Credentials shown honestly. Accreditation, licensing and registration listed separately.

Reviews shown exactly as written. Never edited, never removed because a facility asked.

No commission, no referral fees. Nothing a facility pays for changes where it appears.

Contact details always go direct. Calls reach the facility itself, never a call centre.

Does Aetna Cover Rehab in Kentucky?

Yes. Aetna Better Health of Kentucky’s 2026 member handbook lists substance use rehabilitation and residential services, intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization among covered behavioral health care, and says members choose their own behavioral health providers. The treatment programs across Kentucky on this page are filtered to rehabs that accept Aetna.

Aetna Better Health of Kentucky holds a 2026-2027 renewal contract with the Department for Medicaid Services and enrolls members in every county. It also runs Supporting Kentucky Youth, known as SKY, for children in foster care, youth adopted from care, former foster youth and young people committed to the Department of Juvenile Justice.

Aetna’s Kentucky employer business is separate from Kentucky Medicaid rehab coverage and follows Aetna’s national rules. Postal and federal staff in Kentucky may carry an Aetna-run card as well, since the Mail Handlers Benefit Plan names Aetna as its administrator and runs on Aetna’s Choice POS II network nationwide.

Does Aetna Cover Inpatient Rehab in Kentucky?

Yes. Aetna Better Health covers long-term residential care for Medicaid and hospital admissions under Kentucky Medicaid’s substance use waiver, whose providers hold ASAM residential certification. Under Aetna’s commercial rules, a substance use facility stay counts as an inpatient confinement, so precertification applies.

How long will Aetna pay for residential rehab?

Aetna sets residential length by assessment rather than a fixed number of days. Kentucky Medicaid uses the ASAM Criteria and a 30-day statewide average for waiver stays, and Aetna’s handbook says the plan monitors inpatient care during the stay. Aetna’s national commercial criteria also use the ASAM Criteria, Third Edition, for addiction services.

Does Aetna need prior authorization for inpatient rehab?

Yes. Aetna Better Health of Kentucky must authorize residential and inpatient substance use care in advance, except in emergencies; its behavioral health authorization line is 1-855-300-5528, open around the clock. Employer members follow Aetna’s national precertification list and call the number on the card; Aetna’s commercial line is 1-888-632-3862.

Does Aetna Cover Detox in Kentucky?

Yes. Aetna Better Health members can use residential detox programs and hospital detox under Kentucky Medicaid, which covers withdrawal management at ambulatory, residential and inpatient ASAM levels. For employer plans, an older version of Aetna’s national list said outpatient detox came off precertification at the start of 2019.

Does Aetna Cover Outpatient Rehab in Kentucky?

Yes. Aetna Better Health of Kentucky needs no primary care referral before a member sees another network provider, so a member can go straight to outpatient addiction treatment or an intensive outpatient program. The handbook lists partial hospitalization too, which Kentucky’s Medicaid plans authorize before it begins.

Aetna Better Health books an outpatient visit within seven days of discharge from inpatient behavioral health care, scheduled before the member leaves, and its Aetna Better Care rewards program pays a gift card incentive for follow-up visits with mental health practitioners. Aetna also authorizes peer support in advance.

Does Aetna Cover Suboxone, Methadone and Other Addiction Medications?

Yes. Aetna Better Health’s provider guide lists MedImpact as the pharmacy manager for buprenorphine and Suboxone prescriptions, and the state’s 2025 chart shows that Aetna’s medication treatment service codes need no advance sign-off. Aetna employer plans use CVS Caremark, a CVS Health sister company, for pharmacy benefits.

Does Aetna cover methadone?

Yes. Aetna Better Health members get methadone maintenance treatment through Kentucky Medicaid, which has covered methadone for substance use disorder since July 1, 2019. For anyone with an Aetna Medicare card, the clinic visit is paid under Medicare’s opioid treatment program rules, the same in every state.

Does Aetna cover Suboxone?

Yes. Aetna’s commercial plans stopped asking for prior approval on Suboxone and other buprenorphine products in March 2017, in every state where it sells them. For Aetna Better Health members, Kentucky’s June 2024 preferred drug list carried Suboxone film as preferred, with the Vivitrol shot preferred but subject to prior authorization.

Aetna Rehab Centers Along the Ohio River, Near Cumberland Falls and in the Red River Gorge

Aetna Better Health of Kentucky defines its service area as the whole Commonwealth, so a member can be treated beside a river or in the gorge country without changing plans. A Medicaid ride has to be booked 72 hours ahead, and care outside the member’s own medical service area needs a note from the primary care provider.

Aetna rehab along the Ohio River

Aetna members along the Ohio River live in a string of river cities from Ashland and Maysville through Louisville to Owensboro, Henderson and Paducah. Rehabs near rivers and treatment programs in Ashland can bill Aetna Better Health only on the Kentucky side of the river, since the plan covers non-emergency care only inside Kentucky.

Aetna rehab near Cumberland Falls

Aetna members in Whitley, McCreary and Laurel counties live near Cumberland Falls, the large waterfall on the Cumberland River southwest of Corbin. Programs near waterfalls and addiction care in Corbin fall under the same Aetna authorization line as programs in Louisville, with transport arranged through Kentucky Medicaid.

Aetna rehab in the Red River Gorge

Aetna members in Powell, Wolfe and Menifee counties live around the Red River Gorge and the Clifty Wilderness, east of Winchester and Stanton. Rehabs near wilderness areas serve the gorge counties, and a SKY member placed with a foster family there still reaches the plan through the same member line, 1-855-300-5528, and the same crisis hotline as other members.

How Do I Find a Rehab That Accepts Aetna in Kentucky?

Browse the listings on this page. Each Kentucky program shown takes some form of Aetna coverage; open a listing for its phone line, care levels and accreditation. Ask the program which Aetna product it takes, since Aetna Better Health, SKY and Aetna employer plans each use their own networks and contracts in Kentucky.

For an Aetna member, getting into a residential bed, a hospital unit or a day program starts with a request the program sends to Aetna. Out-of-network care under Aetna Better Health is covered only when no network provider can give it in time and Aetna has authorized it first. The table below gives the line for each Aetna product.

Aetna rehab in Louisville

Aetna Better Health of Kentucky lists its plan office on Corporate Campus Drive in eastern Louisville, near Hurstbourne, and the same 2025 provider guide gives one behavioral health authorization number for the whole state, 1-855-300-5528, with a separate fax for SKY requests. Jefferson County members can choose Louisville addiction treatment centers or Hurstbourne treatment options in Aetna’s network.

Aetna rehab in Lexington and Richmond

Aetna’s SKY plan relies on the local Department for Community Based Services office to decide eligibility for children in Fayette and Madison counties, and Aetna then works with that office and with Department of Juvenile Justice staff. Aetna care managers, who are nurses and social workers, can arrange care with Lexington rehab programs or recovery programs near Richmond.

Aetna rehab in Covington and Florence

Aetna Better Health members in Kenton and Boone counties live minutes from Ohio, but the 2026 handbook treats anywhere outside Kentucky as outside the service area, covering only emergency room care there. Non-emergency treatment for these members stays at rehab centers in Covington and other Kentucky programs.

Aetna rehab in Hazard and Prestonsburg

Aetna Better Health members in Perry and Floyd counties who choose residential care in the Bluegrass need a Kentucky Medicaid ride booked 72 hours ahead, plus a primary care note because the trip leaves their medical service area. Hazard treatment centers and programs in Prestonsburg keep many members closer to home.

Aetna rehab in Bowling Green

Aetna Better Health members in Warren and Barren counties can mix in-person and virtual care, since the plan lists telehealth among its Kentucky benefits. Bowling Green addiction services and online rehab and telehealth both fall under Aetna’s rule that behavioral health care needs no primary care referral.

Can I use Aetna for rehab in a different state?

Only in some cases. Aetna Better Health of Kentucky covers non-emergency care inside Kentucky only, so a residential stay in Ohio, Indiana or Tennessee is not covered unless the plan authorizes it. The Aetna Choice POS II network is national, so a Kentuckian on an Aetna employer or federal plan can be treated in network out of state.

How much does rehab cost with Aetna?

Nothing, for Aetna Better Health members: the 2026 Kentucky handbook lists no copayment for inpatient or outpatient mental health and substance use services. Members under 21 or over 64 in a psychiatric residential facility or psychiatric hospital may owe an income-based liability. Aetna employer plans in Kentucky set deductibles, copays and coinsurance in each employer plan’s own benefit documents.

Kentucky listings show Aetna alongside many other payers, from the other Medicaid plans to Medicare and employer insurers. Programs also take self-pay and state-funded care, and each facility page lists its payers. Programs taking private insurance and Medicaid-funded rehab options appear on separate pages.
