avoid this place at all cost monica and ryan mean well and tried to help but wow just an awful awful program run away there’s so many better options in California
I called Radar Recovery Center because I am actively seeking detox after a recent slip following eight years of sobriety. I temporarily have Medi-Cal instead of the private insurance I previously carried, so I asked… whether they accept Medi-Cal or offer any scholarships. Within maybe 30 seconds of mentioning financial options, the man I spoke with became rude, told me to “call your insurance,” and hung up on me. I called back because I genuinely couldn’t believe someone answering an admissions line at a detox facility would treat a person reaching out for help that way. I believe his name was Justin. When I asked if he was the person I had just spoken with, he pretended it wasn’t him and hung up on me again. Ironically, I actually had another potential means of paying for treatment if necessary. Had he taken even a minute to listen instead of immediately dismissing me, he would have known that. What bothers me most is that this is addiction treatment. People calling you may be sick, withdrawing, scared, desperate, or finally willing to ask for help. I have eight years of recovery experience and other resources, so I can call somewhere else. Someone else may not. Treating a person this way when they are calling for detox is completely unacceptable. Maryann Ricci (Owner), Ahmad Bryant (CEO), and Christopher McCormick (VP of Admissions): I hope you see this and review the calls from tonight. I have also sent an email documenting what happened because I believe leadership should be aware of how someone representing your admissions department is treating prospective patients who call asking for help. I hope this is taken seriously, not simply because of how I was treated, but because the next person who makes that call may be in a far more vulnerable position and may not have the ability or willingness to pick up the phone and try somewhere else.
The website description and actual facility in San Diego are polar opposites. Their phone system is awful. Always cutting out, and leaves no voicemail when they call you. I understand that they're talking through their… computers. For $30,000 a month at minimum I expect a decent phone system. Also, know that when your lived on is there, they put an ankle bracelet on them. In addition, you are only allowed to talk with your loved one two times a week. If the client has someone else on their call list, you can talk with them for 7-8 minutes. That makes 14-16 minutes a week. How are you supposed to plan a thing for their aftercare?
I went in for a 7oh addiction detox. Awful experience, I almost left during the check in process, i wish I had. I do not believe the good reviews. Nursing staff could not be less friendly. You only see a doctor on Zoom,… The doctor literally apologized to me for the way the nurse staff treated me. My advice, do not go here !!!!
Truth be told, when I first got there I was thinking what am I doing here?!? Did I make a mistake? I was in such a low in my life I don’t think I would be here today if I had not made the call. Trust me YES it is… terrifying to admit that I was powerless to my addiction and without the help of such an amazing staff and nurses, I was in the right place at the right time. The facility was always clean (by the wonderful housekeeping) and props to the kitchen for making sure dietary needs were met. I do want to give a bigger shout out to the staff you know who you are! I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you very very much. On a lighter note I do not wish to see you any of you again! Unless it is on totally different circumstances! Haha. Thanks for helping me to start building my foundation for a better life. Blubblubblubblub Go Radar!
This place was great. The staff was very caring my favorite nurse Tiesha took very good care of me. When I didn’t want to stay, my favorite Tech gentry came after me. If you’re looking to start your life clean, this is… a great place to start.
My stay at Radar this summer (June 23rd-July 24th, 2026) was everything! Housekeepers were amazing, BHT staff were always helpful, case workers went above and beyond to take care of all the stressors of the outside… world, cooks were great and the therapist/group leaders kept me focused on my recovery! I will always be thankful for this place and would recommend anybody looking for help with substance abuse contact admissions.
The staff were incredible and really make this a one of a kind experience.
An overall wonderful experience for my first (and hopefully only time) at a recovery center. The Radar staff are great. Alex and Liza were able to help me with all of my employment, insurance, and financial needs. Leila… was a great therapist that helped me through any hurdles in my recovery. Teisha, Megan, Lloyd and Elsa and the nursing staff are great and always friendly. Big shout outs to the BHT staff. Bernice, Gentry, Ryan, and Cole lead an amazing staff.
This experience was absolutely amazing from all aspects except the food. Will always remember Radar recovery.
Berenice and Edwin are SENSATIONAL! The housekeepers are super thorough. But overalll the staff are amazing! Not a bad thing i can say about any of them except for one. You know who you are.
I had a great experience at Radar. All the staff was very helpful and always there for assistance. Everyone here is very serious about recovery and helping you succeed in that! Go to Radar!
Pretty good food and the staff are very respectful…just make sure you before getting on the flight you have very specific details and outdates
Great staff and very caring. Many great personalities especially the case workers, therapists, and nurses.
100% honest review from a successful, working professional - Was looking for help before things in my life got out of control due to alcohol and unfortunately got in touch with Flyland, who placed me at Radar. Before… coming in, I triple verified that my non narcotic prescription medication would be approved throughout treatment as it is critical to my physical health. I also made it extremely clear that I would not be accepting any benzos, pain meds, or sleeping meds since I was at zero risk of seizures and am against drugs (I know, funny stuff for an alcoholic). Your doctor will be a tablet screen and the nursing teams entire goal is to get you to take as many prescription drugs they can get away with. The nurses argued with me for over 30 minutes, trying to force adavan on me, then immediately took my blood pressure, which was obviously high due to the stress they induced - they then forced me to the hospital without my consent (I would have had to make a scene or be physical to get out of it, which is not why I went to rehab). The hospital released me with zero medical intervention and my blood pressure was perfectly healthy. I now have to pay for that visit, which was entirely unnecessary. The first time I needed to take my prescription, there was no issue at all and I was allowed to administer it with supervision. The second time I needed it, I was told "that was never approved and will not be approved" by Ms. McGee (not sure on spelling, asking for names is like pulling teeth with these people). I immediately reported this issue through the proper channels knowing it was a mistake. They came back and told me they couldn't approve my medication because it wasn't prescribed from a doctor (it absolutely is and the doctor has been in practice for over 20 years. The doctors name is literally printed on the bottle). Then they told me they couldn't approve it because the prescription is expired (complete made up lie, it is my most current prescription and is to last for several months). Since they were playing games with my health, I asked to be processed out and receive my belongings. This is when they offered to let me finally have my medication, hours after I was supposed to take it. This is completely unacceptable and ruined my trust, so I found it necessary to leave anyway. I asked to receive all phone transcripts and an itemized bill before leaving, which was promised, and never received. They sent me out to the street with a half charged phone and zero plans in place to get home safely. Told me to go to the Starbucks down the street, which happens to be right across from a liquor store. Check Google maps if you don't believe me. Amazing. After I left, I started receiving phone calls from several different people, all trying to get me to go back with no promises that I could take my prescription on time. In the paperwork they gave me on my way out, they blacked out names and information and the list of prescriptions is a mile long. Still have no idea what I was charged for and need to wait another 10 days to get any information on that. Checked in on a Thursday and by Monday I had gotten a total of 7hrs of sleep because they wake you up every 30 minutes. What was their solution? Try to shove more drugs down my throat. These people are predatory and immoral. If your life is already destroyed, or you are court ordered and you need some sort of direction to make sense of things, this may be the type of place you need. The level of unprofessionalism was astounding and I applaud the people who are able to work there and still show up every day to give maximum effort. Your work is critical and I'm happy I met you. Everyone else needs to take a long hard look at their lives and figure it out, because I guarantee people have been destroyed over situations like this. Not everyone is as fortunate as I am. I have been offered zero resolution to any of the problems I faced and only received a verbal apology from upper management once I mentioned a lawyer.
Most of the staff is very good and you can tell they truly care. Unfortunately, some of their medical staff is unprofessional and dishonest. Verified before arriving that I would be able to continue my prescription TRT… without issue. Followed all rules and guidelines upon arriving and have been denied my medical care. Any health care professional knows you can not simply stop TRT without any alternative in place. I served my country honorably and sustained head injuries while deployed that now make it necessary to use this prescription. Tried to file a complaint before leaving but was also denied. Overall a very depressing experience. If you have ZERO required prescriptions, I would recommend this program. Seems they are incapable of meeting any needs beyond alcoholism/addiction.
Staff was great because all of them are in recovery.so easy to relate because they were once where I was .made me feel very comfortable. But they feed you nothing but fried food unless you ask for a salad. Also the… therapist say u can come to them anytime but they are understaffed,to busy and except to many people for the facility. There is not enough seats during meetings to wear people have sit on the floor. They also give no details on how much it will cost they take your phone only two calls a week to Loved ones and only on there phones with a California number. Threw all my medications away when I got there and order more when I already brought my own. They just want you on the plane and call you non stop very pushy makes it feel all about money. And who knows what kind of riff raffyou will be in there with.
I spent 1 month at radar and the program works if you work it and honestly nothing else really matters anyways so if you need to get sober this is a place for you to do so! The groups everyday were en eyeopener and just… so helpful and very well curated. My work with my therapy i will ever forget because i connected so many dots i will be forever grateful for this. Every person who works there does it because they are passionate about the work they do- you can literally lean on everyone if needed.I especially want to thank the nursing staff for going the extra mile for me- s safe space you can always go to if you feel like people aren’t listening to you. Again, nothing else matters than starting your journey of recovery. But, this is a costly recovery program and some needs just weren’t met. First of all, the facility is extremely small and there is absolutely no space for privacy and or reading a book, doing quiet work and reflection. You will be listening to every pop song ever made through the day. Of course you can stay in your room and read or write, but being in bed all day (during classes or in the venings is also not it). Sleep is difficult since you wear ankle monitors and the staff will check on every patient first for 15 than 30 minutes even through the night. I understand these are effective safety precautions but staff is almost desensitised to it so you’ll wake up from it. I am a vegetarian and discussed this prior to coming and there was absolutely no food for me there.Although the facility tried to help me get fed (grocery lists, cookbooks etc) i think i had a food intake for about 4 dollars in 1 month. Cringe to then suggest i had something called Dod some sort of effect from sobering up- not true I absolutely love eating and its not like i had dietary restrictions other than simply not eating animals. Sadly i got food poisoning due to them feeding me the same soup for a week. I fileed a complaint but even on my last day they didn’t order me a vegetarian pizza (cheese pizza). Every Friday they order pizza for everyone. I was extremely bullied in this facility and that was also not taken seriously enough for anyone to be taking action during my stay there. I felt like a lot of my mental space was taken up because of this. The sentence just focus on your recovery almost became unbearable to hear, honestly. If you are looking for a little more peace and quiet this might not be the best for you. But i am grateful for everyone in this place who is part of my story and so i want to say THANK YOU.
Such a great experience here. Didn’t want to leave! The staff was so kind and compassionate but also so fun. I made some amazing bonds with other patients in just 4 weeks. If you need treatment this is the place to go :)
Case management awesome! Whole staff was great !
Was harassed by staff , gentry and medical staff refusing my daily medications due to medical staff , was lied to by Ryan the head staff and by Mario the supervisor, it is recorded on video of gentry and medical staff… having a conversation involving slandering and medical malpractice by medical staff . Also they could care less about you because money is the only thing they care about .
Really appreciate the staff members that really care about recovery and the case managers that helped make the process so much easier.
There’s no shortage of Brilliant people that work here…. MORGAN, Alex, Thaddeus, Esteban, Monica, Liza, Jessica, Paul, EDWIN, Cole, Gentry, James (chef), all the cleaning staff, Aaron, Nico, Meghan, Gregory, Melissa,… Ryan, Mario, other Ryan, Gentry’s tent friend (that old lady that was a therapist for a few days) etc etc. the other client advocate, If I forgot your name I may be romantically saving it for my next post….. You are all beautiful souls here that I genuinely needed, (I was miserable quitting drugs) everyone on this list helped me and they are all overqualified…. Thank you all for spending time with me, you tent witches and Mastery Wizardly therapists!
I learned a lot here in Radar they have blessed me with the tools to succeed on my journey to staying sober. all the staff was amazing, loving, & caring! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND
