Butler Hospital – Providence

Butler is great but they need help on hiring better staff . I had a horrible experience with a nurse practitioner that lied on my progress didn’t want to change meds that were hurting and making me sick lied to staff… and said I was not doing what I was suppose to do moving forward I want Gabrielle back she’s my day 1 nurse practitioner I will be requesting her when I go back in the near future you need to be careful you get as your team I recommend Gabrielle as nurse practitioner she listens she’s smart and she honest and as for therapist I recommend Sarah summers she was great she listens she gets to the point and grounds those are the people I love working with Gabrielle I know for over 7 years and Sarah is more recent . They were awesome as for others recently I had a newer nurse practitioner and she made up lies about my progress and said I wasn’t doing what I needed to which was a lie I did everything I had to do I feel she was upset that I was doing good and that’s shady she didn’t have my best interest like Gabrielle I’m requesting her moving forward I will never agree to work with that last person terrible vaules and not a match for maybe for someone else she great again Gabrielle and I been working for over 7 years there we had a disagreement I overreacted and they changed her I admit I was wrong . Butler does great partial just focus on getting rid of toxic staff members . Thanks for always supporting unfortunately some people you hire are not the best please do better butler we’re. I still support you because there so much good at butler

It had been 8 years since my last stay at Butler and I was afraid that it wouldn’t be up to the same standards as it used to be. But it definitely was, with just a few exceptions. The PAS experience was much improved-… kinder and more attentive staff and a much shorter wait to be transferred to the unit. For the most part the care was good to excellent. Of course there’s always a few that need a major attitude adjustment but then that’s the same way anyplace. The two things that were a bit negative were, the food. It used to be good but it is really awful now. Budget cuts I assume. The biggest and most bothersome issue is the horrible changes in the belongings policy. I understand the problem of people bringing in contraband but the policy is just ridiculous and absurd. I brought 4 sets of clothes and 1 nightgown and underwear. It took 24 hours before I got anything. And then I got back 6 things- none of which matched and all rolled up into a ball and wrinkled. I had had them neatly folded. It told me that they didn’t care or respect my belongings. I did not get my nightgown nor my underwear! I couldn’t have a book that I had brought or any of my toiletries. I was extremely upset about this and I honestly don’t believe that it needs to be quite that restrictive. The doctor was ok and the social worker was wonderful! When I was discharged and got my belongings back I was really angry that they had stuck a sticker with my name on the back of my phone. I was unable to get it off completely and have had to buy a new case. Very disrespectful. So all in all, things were pretty much as they were before. I was reasonably comfortable and well taken care of. So yes- Butler is in my opinion still the best place to be when you need psychiatric help. Don’t hesitate to go there. Thank you.

I can’t speak to the inpatient services here, but I recently discharged from the Women’s DBT Partial Hospital Program, and my experience was honestly so much better than I expected. The facilitators / staff are very… invested in the work they are doing, which made the entire experience actually work for me. Vs. feeling like it was just going through the motions. DBT is a complicated therapy model but a very good one. And the staff here know their stuff. Which is important when you're facilitating a DBT program. I will recommend this program over and over again. It was truly a lifeline. From intake to discharge, every single staff member/therapist/doctor etc I interacted with was skilled, engaged, receptive, and invested. They took me seriously, and didn't take what I was there for lightly. I appreciate that a lot. I can genuinely say this program helped me in a huge way. And that's what I needed going in. So, thank you. TLDR: A very well organized DBT outpatient program with a skilled team and a system that worked for me.

I tried the CBT program. They never talked to me about what's bothering me. 3 days in and my 1:1 were never about me per se. like I couldn't talk about my problems, they only wanted to talk about the problems they had… with me. Finally had the courage to speak out, professional help of my problems and all they did was state the problems they had with me. Literally three days in and all my one-on-one sessions were in distaste. Do not mention natural and holistic healing approaches, they only want to talk about chemical healing Aka lexapro!!! I quit and walked out!

Best help i ever experience great programs for healing cbt and more I got treated so great I recommend any one who having trouble with emotions and need to get help or better casemanger and team look no more this place… is great and you can trust many staff that have beautiful hearts and kind must try start healing now

I had a great experience at the Kent unit they treated me with respect and professionalism

The male patients were flashing their genitals to female patients and the staff said nothing. Staff didn't listen to patients or give them the meds they need. Disgusting hospital. Every employee should be ashamed to be… employed here.

Place is terrible I called because I wanted to do DBT therapy and they told me they only had trauma therapy for women that’s a bit sexist nurses treat you like your an animal as well

Brought my dad to get mental help and a lady was harassing him. The nurses sat there and watched as he got his glasses thrown on the floor. This place is a joke lmao. People finally gain the confidence to get help and… this place ruins it. A JOKE.

Cold, heartless, no compassion or common sense to share

I went in June 2025 it was lit I loved everyone there staff was chill also I never ate the food they gave so I lived off ham sandwiches but over all it was litttyyyy

Went here recently. Was turned away initially by security guard. Finally got in my biggest fear turned into reality. I was not given my meds I needed even though mentioning it 10 times during intake. No therapist or… anyone to talk to while in so I just checked out. I literally was suicidal and chose to do it myself. Noone can visit. They dont update your family with changes even if then are your proxy. They filled me with meds I had reactions to and didnt listen which resulted in me going to the ER because I couldn't talk. Do not bring your loved ones here. Also security officers are on a power trip. Bunch of bullies who use power instead of empathy to deal with the patients. Honestly next time ill take the risk of killing myself then eve going there again. Do not bring anyone you love here go to Massachusetts or CT.

Daycare for mentally ill adults

Hello I'm Katalina I'm a 14 year old girl who has struggled with alot I have attended Butler 7 times you may find a lot of 1 or 2 star reviews as a person who has gone 7 times during strike and before and after the… strike it all depends on the group of kids I have been there with really bad kids who has had fights and more they do tend to try and get your kids needs while they are in the rooms during that emergency and when there's good groups it calming your kids will have 2 work times where they just do a small packet to help with understanding CBT DBT and coping skills along with others they would get 3 meals 2 free times 2 visit times you can have strings and walks along with others small basketball court. And more

I was told financial assistance would help me with paying for the hospital bill, just for them to make me wait 4 months to be told they only take a little bit off. The monthly payments are crushing me, and they said… they don’t care. I regret going to the program here because it didn’t help and now I’m a medical bill slave for the hospital for the next two years of my life. Any department I call tells me it’s not their problem. Now I’m even more depressed and anxious than ever before. This place is a trap to make you lose all your money and end up even more hopeless than before. Mental health is a scam and there is in fact no hope for the future. I’m never going to be able to stop drinking now. I’m so sad and depressed and now I can’t get any help without going into severe debt. Care New England, and the scam artists at butler hospital, have now made my life worse instead of helping me. For 4 long months I SUFFERED, unable to access and afford help while waiting for the stupid financial aid application that they lost FOUR TIMES!!! I suffered in agony waiting to see if I was approved just for them to only take off 40 percent. I still have to pay them $193 a month, on top of other medical bills and college loans for the next two years. I guarantee they won’t contact me about this review, because hospitals are horrible places that steal your money. In honor of butler hospital, I’m going to drink every day for the rest of my life, and never access mental health care ever again. I will suffer and suffer until my life falls apart and it’s all the hospitals fault.

I've been kind of stressed lately because I found pictures of me in my room when I was at Butler hospital a couple months ago on social media

Quite literally the worst choice for impatient psychiatric care. While admitted to this hospital I was subjected to theft of property and racial discrimination. After leaving I communicated with a Ms. Torres, who… falsely assured me an impartial investigation would be conducted. As of this morning I have been informed in writing that the racial discrimination and theft of property I was subjected to is "Consistent with Butler's policies". In other words, this maltreatment is systematic and fully encouraged by leadership.
