STAY AWAY — This facility caused serious harm to my child. We chose this “renowned” adolescent residential program because it was advertised as having age-appropriate housing for younger teens, separate from older ones,… along with a strict packing list that specified “one-piece bathing suit only.” Instead, our 12-year-old daughter was placed in a house with mostly 16- and 17-year-olds. Staff then called us requesting a bikini be sent so she could “lay out” with the older girls. Even worse, despite our repeated, explicit requests for a female therapist, the Family Therapist assigned her to an improperly credentialed male therapist. He pressured our daughter — who was already suffering from severe PTSD after being trafficked — to recount graphic details of her ongoing court case. He then failed to notify us when she disclosed gang involvement, violating basic safety and parental communication standards. After a group fight broke out at the house, our daughter was slapped with criminal charges and abruptly “graduated early” and sent home. The chaos and trauma she brought back with her was devastating. Instead of the peace and stability we desperately sought, she returned far more unstable. She has since been hospitalized multiple times with worsening self-harm and suicidal ideation. This facility did not help my daughter — it made her condition significantly worse. Parents, please protect your children and look elsewhere.

Our son was at Newport Academy in California for 53 days and I can truly say they helped save his life. The clinicians and care counselors are an incredible mix of compassion, wisdom, professionalism and real world… experience. They really understand how 14-17 year old boys think. They are truly guided by their model of "empowering teens and restoring families" - something that is rare in the recovery world. We are forever grateful for how they helped our son - and our family!
