About Uplift Behavioral Health Services – West Roxbury

Uplift Behavioral Health Services operates from 5260 Washington Street in West Roxbury, close enough to Dedham and Milton to serve both. People travelling from Milton, Brookline, Needham and Norwood are all inside 5 miles. West Roxbury sits in Suffolk County, and the county’s own provision is limited enough that this site draws from a wide area.

What is available here is intensive outpatient and outpatient care. Medication-assisted treatment is part of the offer, the approach with the strongest evidence for opioid dependence. Substance use and mental health are treated together rather than in sequence. Some contact can happen by video rather than in person. Uplift Behavioral Health Services is federally registered and licensed by the Massachusetts Bureau of Substance Addiction Services.

I would not recommend. I will never talk to another therapist. I am already dealing with financial issues and then they charge me twice. Thank goodness that I have insurance. I saw the bill for her service! No one… should get paid $330 an hour to make me relive my horrible past! She just made me feel like everything was my fault. I can talk to my fiance or my mom and not get charged. Talk about just stressing me out and making my issues worse!

Honestly I love the therapists. Im so sad my favorite therapist (Tamara) left, but my new therapist Latisha is also amazing. Tamara is the reason I even got diagnosed with the condition I have after years of noticing… the signs. Bonita and Maggie make the scheduling and follow ups super easy. Maggie was even my case manager at one point and she made sure I was always okay in my current situation. I can't really say the same about the psychiatrists. Dr.Chen I felt profiled by and she also refused all meds when I was leaving for a trip and required said medication for the trip (I was given 4 pills by someone who had them which was all I needed/was asking for) until I could see her in person which did not work for my schedule prior to leaving. Dr.Pepper is pretty nice but I am still getting a feel for her. I do feel like she doesn't give enough time for meds to actully start working prior to checking in and changing doses etc. Other than that I have not had a problem. Ive been with uplift for years now and I must say overall I am happy here. Update: I take it all back. I have never had this many problems in regards to my mental health until I dealt with them. My providers including my therapist are still amazing and I am happy with that aspect of things but between the front desk and management the lack of communication among other things is absolutely ridiculous. Also to be told "im not giving you anything" by BONITA because I mentioned a report to the Department of Mental Health after direct violation of my patient rights for over 2 weeks. Im actively waiting for an email with everyones first and last names who I spoke with because after this encounter not only am I reporting to DMH but I will also be reporting to BBB.

Had exactly one session over the phone for my daughter. The following scheduled time I was driving and got a call from what I assumed to be the therapist because she had cancelled with my daughter and said the parents… needed to talk. Although several phone calls were scheduled before this they all never materialized. Now nobody has called us back. The lack of communication is concerning as well as the on-phone tele-health that doesn't seem structured or goal oriented. I will certainly change my rating here if I am called back and communication is restored. Update: Received a call shortly after and confusion was cleared up. Hopefully this goes smoothly!

Please save yourself from all the stress and go somewhere else. I had a really good therapist and that's the only good thing I can say. Otherwise most staff are extremely rude, really insensitive and not compassionate… at all. I honestly don't know how they got the positions they are in. I just leave it at that.

Their website is hosted by godaddy that should tell you everything you need to know. This is not a serious place to seek mental health counseling plus they suck at med management and can’t even make referrals or provide… you with any necessary paperwork (they denied helping me fill out my PT-1) the people over the phone are so rude except for literally one woman just save your time and look elsewhere.

★☆☆☆☆
Sophia Pepin1 year ago

Culturally insensitive and extremely unprofessional — look elsewhere I had a terrible first impression with Uplift Behavioral Health Services, and it started with the administrative staff. When I called to complete my… referral, the woman on the phone was rude, condescending, and completely culturally incompetent. Despite the fact that I was speaking clear English, she told me she would “connect me with a translator” — for absolutely no reason other than assumption. She then walked me through the referral process and signing the consent forms in a tone that was demeaning, like she was speaking to a child. There was no patience, no professionalism, and certainly no respect. Mental health care starts with how you’re treated from the first point of contact, and Uplift failed that completely. I did not feel welcomed, understood, or respected. If this is how they treat potential clients, I would not trust them with care that’s supposed to be compassionate and supportive. Seek therapy elsewhere. First impressions matter — and this one made it very easy for me to take my care somewhere else.

I would absolutely not recommend Uplift Behavioral Health Services if you’re looking for support for a child. I signed my child up for telehealth services expecting a secure, face-to-face video experience something… engaging and developmentally appropriate. Instead, the therapist conducted sessions over the phone, with no video, no visuals, and no structure at all. How is a child supposed to build rapport, stay engaged, or receive meaningful support through just a phone call? It felt lazy and inappropriate, especially for a mental health service that’s supposed to specialize in working with kids. There was no communication or transparency about this change in format. I had to follow up myself just to understand what was going on and even then, no one gave a clear answer. Between the disorganized scheduling and the lack of effort during sessions, it’s very obvious this is not a place equipped to support children or families. Look elsewhere if you want your child to receive actual care. This place is not it.

This place needs to be shut down unethical and disrespectful!!!!! I don’t even know where to begin. Uplift Behavioral Health Services is one of the most unprofessional and unethical places I’ve ever received care from.… My therapist was consistently late, showing up 10 to 15 minutes (or NOT AT ALL) into a 45-minute session and yet, my insurance was being billed for the full time as if we had a complete appointment. That alone is shady, but it gets worse. I later found out my insurance was also billed for telehealth sessions that NEVER happened. No calls, no video, no contact just straight-up fraud. When I tried to address this, the response was vague at best, and no one took accountability. The administrative staff either don’t know what they’re doing or just don’t care. This place is a disaster from top to bottom. From the lack of professionalism, to the billing issues, to the general disrespect for people’s time and insurance, Uplift is not somewhere you want to entrust your mental health care to. It’s dangerous, it’s dishonest, and it seriously needs to be shut down.

I had been seeing a therapist at Uplift for a while and things were going well until I suddenly received a call for scheduling a session with someone I had never heard of. No one contacted me to let me know that my… therapist was being changed, and when I reached out, it became clear that even my original therapist wasn’t informed of the switch. It was awkward, unprofessional, and completely disrupted the progress I was making. Come to find out, my therapist is now quitting the organization, which honestly didn’t surprise me given how poorly things seem to be run. The lack of communication, transparency, and basic respect for client-therapist relationships is unacceptable especially in a mental health setting. If you’re looking for consistent, trustworthy care, this is NOT the place to find it.

!!!!!!FIRST AND FOREMOST BE WEARY OF PREVIOUS 5 STAR REVIEWS THEY SRE COMING FROM PEOPLE WITH AFFILIATION TO THE COMPANY AS THEIR NAMES ARE ON THE MAILBOXES OF THE BUILDING!!!! As a parent, I DO NOT recommend this place… for children’s behavioral/mental health care. I brought my child to Uplift Behavioral Health Services in West Roxbury hoping to get real support — but what we got was a frustrating and disorganized experience from start to finish. The building itself feels uninviting and poorly maintained, which already gave me pause. There are barely any child-friendly tools or intervention materials available, which is shocking for a place thats referred by Boston Children’s PCPs and provides child and adolescent mental health care and behavioral support. It felt more like an office for adults than a safe space for children. What was even more concerning was the lack of follow-up and consistency from the administrative team. Insurance information wasn’t handled properly during intake, and we ran into repeated issues because of mistakes that should have been caught early. Referrals and paperwork were delayed, and every time I called to fix things, I had to explain everything from the beginning again — like they had no record. They also clearly don’t know how to use their own electronic health record (EHR) system. I canceled an appointment through their automated text system and still got marked as a no-show. No one followed up, no one corrected it, and it happened more than once. Out of everyone we dealt with, there was only one clinician who actually seemed experienced with children and took the time to double-check information, follow up, and offer real wraparound care. If it wasn’t for her, I honestly don’t think we would have gotten anything meaningful out of our time there. If you’re looking for more than just surface-level therapy — if you need a place that coordinates with schools, supports families, and actually pays attention to details — this is not it. Sadly, it feels like the people running this place don’t have the proper background in mental health or healthcare management, and it shows. Save yourself the stress. Look elsewhere for your child’s care. Your time and their well-being deserve better.

This place… Please do yourself a favor and keep searching elsewhere. It’s incredibly difficult to find good mental health care and you will not find it here. They do not care about you. Keep searching. To Uplift:… improve in every way or close the doors. This place is an embarrassment to mental health care. Friends, keep looking for help, just not here!
