Cigna is one of the larger commercial carriers in the United States, and the majority of its members hold coverage through an employer. Behavioral health is administered by Evernorth, the health services business Cigna built around its pharmacy and behavioral operations. For someone seeking rehab, that is a practical detail rather than a corporate one, because Evernorth is who authorizes the admission.

Cigna or Evernorth

Your card carries a general member services number and frequently a separate behavioral health number. Use the behavioral one. It reaches the team that holds the network directory for addiction treatment and the criteria your admission will be judged against. Calling the general line usually means being transferred anyway.

Coverage by Level of Care

Medical Detox

Cigna covers medically supervised withdrawal where dependence is physical. Alcohol and benzodiazepine withdrawal carry genuine medical risk, and this is the one level of care where waiting for paperwork is the wrong instinct. Inpatient detox needs prior authorization, which a facility normally initiates, but emergency stabilisation is covered as emergency care regardless of network.

Residential Treatment

Treatment centers will usually run a verification of benefits at no cost and most do it competently. Doing it yourself as well is worth the time, because the bill arrives in your name.
