This was the worse place I was admitted to. Please never send your children or loved ones here. I got strangled and lifted up 1.5 ft off the ground for over a minute until my face turned purple. And only then, did the… patient decide to drop me. The staff saw it all, and did nothing! Nothing at all. Until the other patient left and I was still on the floor. And guess what they said? They said I should’ve fought back… keep in mind the other patient was 2.5 times my size and I already had been there for over 2 weeks. I needed to leave and couldn’t do anything to risk the time being prolonged. The fact that the staff stared the whole time and didn’t care at all to intervene is quite insane. That’s their literal job. Also I was on 8 different new medications within 3 days. Again after researching them, that was the worst combination that could’ve been put together. I’ve always been so caring for others until this point. I then became homicidal because of the med mixture. And when I told them about this, they decided to diagnose me with psychosis… keep in mind the second I stopped taking them I was back to normal. Still depressed, yet not going literally insane. They do that on purpose. I’ve met multiple people who have had their lives screwed over by the people who work here who know they can gain money from the patients. DO NOT GO HERE, I BEG OF YOU. Simply because they changed their name from Provo canyon ( which literally got shut down from abuse from staff ) doesn’t mean anything different. They’re still under similar control and I hate the fact that they still operate thinking they can fly under the radar…
Helped my child out of crisis. Poor/ nonexistent communication. Will 100000% seek future treatment elsewhere. Overall, thankful that they helped my child in a dangerous time of crisis, but I would not recommend this… hospital to anyone that I care about after our mediocre (at best) experience. ETA: Josh Filmore was helpful and made a few phone calls to help us coordinate with Medicaid after 4 months of getting the runaround with Medicaid . I appreciated that help very much. When I dropped off personal items for my child( clothing and books and crayons), the items were swiftly put into brown paper bags and half of the contents were NEVER given to my child (18 yes old). I called 4 times and asked to please give the BOOK I dropped off to my 18 year old and after 4 phone calls, my 18 year old never received the book! ( or the changes of clothing/ socks.) The doctors and therapists did not share information with me eventhough I signed the appropriate paperwork to be involved in these clinical conversations. Overall, this hospital does meet BASIC needs ( keeps patients ALIVE when in crisis) but does not have either enough staff or enough training to feel like it is run smoothly. I do not recommend this hospital unless it is your last resort. If your child or loved one is in crisis, they will receive help here, howeveer, we will seek future treatment in SLC / U of U/Huntsman moving forward. Very disappointed with our overall experience, but again, thankful my child had a safe place to go when in immediate crisis.
The staff was very helpful and very informative in my care. I loved it and how caring they where in my care.
Worst communication skills and no one answers phones. Even asking simple questions I received wrong information
Do NOT send your child here. This is the same group that ran Provo Canyon School. This place destroyed my little sister. She couldn't talk, she couldn't think, she couldn't function after being at this place for 2… weeks. This place is pure evil just like the school. Most evil place alive. I can't believe they still can exist. Their lawyers must be incredibly busy. It's all it is. Rake in the money then pay the lawyers to protect the abuse and business. Rinse and repeat.
I think you should keep people longer . You send them off expecting them to pay $300 for meds they don’t have money for. My friend will probably be coming back. You set people who really need help to fail. You failed my… friend.
The techs are great. Management is running the place into the ground though
I enjoyed my time here even though I thought that was impossible, great staff and a wonderful place to heal.
I was sent to Aspen Grove this past October and was there for 10 days. They improperly treated me for psychotic depression by giving me antipsychotic medication when I was not actually experiencing psychotic symptoms. I… now know I have PTSD and have since found the proper path for treatment. Their Psychiatrist Dr. B refused to answer questions regarding medication side effects and effects on the brain because he said “I wouldn’t understand and that I was not important to my treatment” every visit with him, he was snarky and dehumanizing. He even entered my room to tell me a release date when I had been pushing for my release and shushed me multiple times when I tried to talk to him about getting out earlier. It is unbelievably immoral the way the mental health system is set up. I do believe people like me that experience severe physical and psychological symptoms deserve reparations for being medically mistreated, not listened to and charged thousands and thousands of dollars for medical neglect. Absolutely disgusting and life ruining. The medication that they gave me (Abilify) caused me to develop uncontrolled movement and muscle twitching, that is something that can be permanent in some and is something I should have been made aware of before being medicated. Absolutely evil that places like this make money and don’t provide the care that suffering patients deserve. Being here was even more traumatic and caused even more psychological distress, my path to find proper care took over half a year. Not just this business, but the entire system of mental health care is not held nearly to the standard of physical health care and it’s disturbing. People with a broken leg aren’t given a pain pill and then sent home to figure it out on their own, that would be a serious violation so why is it ok for a place like this to treat the wrong psychiatric disorder and get no push back or is held 100 percent accountable. Left this review months ago, someone said they would contact me and I left my information. Have not heard back yet. 10 months now and edited this post another 10 months ago and they still have never reached out
I was sent here and there was absolutely no need. I needed a doctor for my epilepsy. While there I gotta say the communication was very poor for the most but... I did have a conversation with who was in charge and she… realized that I genuinely just needed to go to an emergency room and or ICU and she made it happen. I appreciate the help I did recieve while I was there.
I almost made a huge mistake by listening to the horrible reviews on here and skipping the place all together, but I took a chance and was vastly rewarded. Everyone there is thoughtful and caring and hardworking, the… food is decent, and it's a very clean and comfortable facility. They don't keep you there against your will or do anything you don't want to do, unless an outside doctor sent you mandatorily. Don't get me wrong, it's not an "enjoyable" experience (maybe that's where the 1-star reviews from from?), you're there to get better, not visit a day spa. But considering the situation, this place does better than I could ever imagine anyone else performing. Most of the time, the 5-star reviews mixed with 1 stars mean the organization's family and friends are skewing the rating higher on an abysmal business. But the 5-star reviews are REAL. They are the sensible people on here. I don't know which side people will trust, but I was apprehensive myself and I *wish* I had someone telling me the 1-star reviews were absolutely wrong, and this is an incredible facility with incredible people, for what it is.
this place genuinely is the worst place you could ever go for mental health care. especially if you have any physical health issues. the staff do not care. you can be bawling begging them for your life saving medication… and they genuinely couldn’t care less. i was pulled out ama because i was on the brink of a coma. they don’t tell you if family members have reached out (or tried because they rarely let you take phone calls). i absolutely 20/10 do NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE
Didn’t give any treatment to my wife for 4 days. They kept telling her that she was going to meet with the doctor the entire stay. On the third day she was told she would be discharged but first had to meet with her… doctor. Again, they’d avoided her almost the entire stay while tending to certain patients 4+ times a day. When she asked the staff for the 4th time that day, they informed her the doctor already went home. I’m honestly in disbelief from the gross negligence of this facility as a whole.
Disorganized Care, Conflicting Medication Instructions, and Poor Communication: This is my husband’s second admission to Aspen Grove, and the discharge process remains incredibly chaotic. Medication reconciliation is… practically nonexistent. During his first stay, the discharge paperwork was completely contradictory, telling us to both continue and discontinue the same medication. On his most recent discharge, he was mistakenly sent home with instructions to take two different ARB medications simultaneously. This dangerous oversight carries severe risks like dangerously low blood pressure and kidney failure. The hospital failed to catch this; our pharmacy did. Furthermore, despite explicitly asking the social worker to have a nurse review his prescriptions before we left, we were rushed out the door with no explanation. Communication from the clinical staff is deeply concerning. Before discharge, a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) named Lynn (or Lin) inappropriately claimed to me that my husband was referring to me as his "ex-wife." This caused immediate, unnecessary distress during an already critical time. My husband never said this, and his signed paperwork—which this exact social worker reviewed—clearly identifies me as his wife. This facility (formerly Provo Canyon Behavioral Health Hospital) isolates caregivers. During his first stay, major medication changes were never explained to me, staff acted annoyed when I questioned a new edema flare-up he developed on-site, and the restrictive, "prison-style" visitation policies made involvement impossible. We are now forced to clean up Aspen Grove's dangerous administrative errors with our primary care physician. Patient safety depends on clear medication reconciliation and professional communication. This facility fails at both. While some of the individual staff members were exceptionally caring toward my husband, their kindness does not erase the dangerous systemic failures I faced as his caregiver.
Absolutely never take your family member here. It's the same place, new name. Listen to these one star reviews because they're right. They are absolutely right. This place needs to be shut down PERMANENTLY, not just a… name change. My hearts go out to those who have put your family members in Aspen Grove, and are now worried sick, doing everything you can, and reading reviews looking for some sort of hope. I am so sorry. They make even discharge the hardest they can. The staff do not communicate well or honestly. In my opinion they do not keep their patients safe. This is a horribly managed facility, and after the holiday I will be filing several formal grievances with the State of Utah.
Wonderful place to be in. The nurses and staff are amazing. Thank you for all you do! I truly appreciate you all!
They had a great team support, felt seen and heard, well organized, and beautiful murals on the walls that provided an atmosphere of healing. It would be great if all the units had the beautiful forest and tropical… island wall murals and nice furniture like they have in the women’s unit. Loved Disney plus, the art and music therapy, breaks, chalk and art supplies. They were also very generous with snacks, a great booklist, awesome food, and great team of people that gave great one on one care. We also loved the journals a therapist gave each of us for our stay! Thank you. You helped our family so much!
My family member was checked in here and I spoke with Dr. Mitch a few times about a plan for her when it is time to leave. I called a few times and told the nurses to MAKE SURE just like Dr. Mitch promised me that she… will NOT be discharged until contacting me. They reassured me that she is not being released and when she is I am the one to call before being released. They said it is in their notes to call me when it’s time. That did not happen. She was released with no place to go and they did nothing for her other than give a person with a pill problem, more pills and send them back on the streets. Now she is missing and no one has seen her in almost a week, and now I have to file a missing person’s report due to their negligence of me saying several times to not release her especially when you gave her pills. I understand she is not their responsibility, but she is not mine either so when you specifically call me and drag me into this and tell me that I have the ability to be apart of her getting help and then pull that rug from underneath me is beyond inconsiderate and so unprofessional and just very irresponsible knowing the state of mind she is in. It just goes to show they don’t really care about helping people who really need it. I called back twice and specifically asked for Dr. Mitch to call me back and no one has contacted me and it’s been almost 2 weeks. This is not the place to go for real help.
The doctor was a jerk
was reminded of my stay here earlier and got curious about what their reviews were like. i went to “aspen grove” (had a different name when i went) in 2018-ish. i was 13 almost 14 at the time. all i can say is that it… was absolutely horrendous all around. i’m still working through mental blocks of my memories of this place and what i do remember is just awful. the staff were incredibly callous and inconsiderate, they did NOT know how to handle emergency situations involving patient safety, and the care team switched day to day (drs, therapists, psychiatrists, etc.). i ended up faking being ok enough to go home because staying there was actual hell. luckily i did get proper help and im doing great now, but holy yikes. listen to the bad reviews friends, they’re not lying and they’re not exaggerating. this place sucks big time. i remember going outside once in my 11 day stay. i remember violent fights breaking out in my group that the staff didn’t know how to stop or de-escalate. they did nothing when a panic attack hit, unless you were “acting out”, then they’d just drag you into the padded room down the hall till you calmed down. seriously, don’t send anyone you remotely like here. it’ll do more harm than good 95% of the time.
I was checked in and they were about to do my intake and I have a knee brace on because I tore my ACL and have surgery soon and they refused care because I couldn't go without the brace
The staff was very polite, and the group therapy was really helpful. Being on quad in an open type setting with other patients also made things a bit easier. Bottom line I would definitely recommend to someone seeking a… little extra help.
I love the staff and the medical team took really, really good care of me while I was detoxing, I was very comfortable and I would refer Aspen to anybody
I was brought to Aspen Grove in an ambulance from Heber. I didn’t know where I was and what kind of treatment or medication they were going to give me. I met some wonderful women that were already there. I was in crisis… mode! Couldn’t understand what was wrong with me. The staff was wonderful to me. The therapist helped me talk about my trauma. I am on the road to recovery and grateful for my stay
Staff is amazing. Always help me to feel welcome and safe. Jordan really went above and beyond for me with any questions and problems I had.
I honestly am a bit baffled as I read some of the reviews left from other people and their experiences because my experience was quite different than many that I read. I couldn’t say one single negative thing about my… entire experience from start to finish with Aspen Grove behavioral Hospital. I felt they were as kind, compassionate, professional, and patient/counselor interactions were completely appropriate and as to be expected from any facility in the interactions between patients and staff. this wasn’t my first rodeo unfortunately I will admit I have been to countless detoxes in my lifetime and honestly, this was my best experience yet. I have walked out early out of every single detox I have gone to a.k.a. how is the professional term AMA each and every time. But this time was different. I stayed because I wanted to. I stayed because of how they treated me and how kind they were I didn’t feel beneath them and judged or A burden or unseen, and dismissed of my needs when expressed to them. In my past experiences at the several different locations, I’ve been to in different counties from Salt Lake county to Utah county you name it. I’ve been there and each experience was negative. I gained nothing from any of them except more trauma, added to the trauma of the experience. Aspen Grove, thank you for showing me kindness, acceptance, patience, and compassion at a time I needed it most. You changed my outlook on detox thank you for that. I wanna make sure that this is Heard. I had to make this review and I want to make sure the story is heard right and I say it proper that it gets across clearly of how wonderful my experience was and how you treated me and how I witnessed, you treat everyone else. You’re great I think you’re a wonderful facility. You’re doing a great job. Keep it up. I would this place to all. Thanks again. and last, but not least I’m still sober that says something right lol much love to all;)
