Treatment Centers in New Mexico That Accept Wellcare

Wellcare sells only stand-alone Medicare prescription drug plans in New Mexico, so a Wellcare card here pays for addiction medications at the pharmacy, not for drug and alcohol rehab stays. Inpatient, detox and outpatient treatment for a Wellcare member are billed to Original Medicare, or to Turquoise Care for members who also have Medicaid.

Listings on this page come from government treatment registers and New Mexico licensing records. Each one gives the program’s phone number, its levels of care and accreditation from The Joint Commission or CARF where it has it. Filter the listings below by city, level of care or Medicare acceptance.

Why Trust RehabSeekers.com?

RehabSeekers is an independent behavioral health directory covering drug and alcohol addiction and mental health treatment providers.

Every listing has a source: an official register, a licensing record, or details the facility sent us.

Credentials shown honestly. Accreditation, licensing and registration listed separately.

Reviews shown exactly as written. Never edited, never removed because a facility asked.

No commission, no referral fees. Nothing a facility pays for changes where it appears.

Contact details always go direct. Calls reach the facility itself, never a call centre.

Does Wellcare Cover Rehab in New Mexico?

Not directly. Centene’s New Mexico page lists one Wellcare product in the state, stand-alone Medicare Prescription Drug Plans, and Wellcare’s New Mexico contact page gives only drug plan numbers. A drug plan covers prescriptions, so treatment at Albuquerque rehab centers for a Wellcare member is paid by Original Medicare.

Wellcare is Centene Corporation’s Medicare brand, selling Medicare Advantage in 32 states for 2026 and drug plans in all 50. New Mexico is not among the Medicare Advantage states. Centene’s earlier New Mexico Medicaid plan, Western Sky Community Care, left Medicaid on June 30, 2024, so Wellcare by Centene has no Turquoise Care role either.

Does Wellcare Cover Inpatient Rehab in New Mexico?

No, Wellcare’s drug plans do not pay for hospital or residential stays. Medicare Part A covers inpatient mental health and substance use care in a general or psychiatric hospital, with a 190-day lifetime limit in freestanding psychiatric hospitals. A Wellcare member admitted to Medicare inpatient rehab programs uses Part A for the stay.

Who pays for residential rehab if I have Wellcare and Medicaid?

Turquoise Care does. People with both Medicare and Medicaid in New Mexico must enroll in a Turquoise Care health plan, and New Mexico Medicaid covers adult residential treatment at ASAM levels 3.1 through 3.7 in accredited centers, with no authorization for the first five days. Medicaid-funded residential rehab then bills the member’s Turquoise Care plan.

Does a Wellcare drug plan need prior authorization for rehab?

No, because a Wellcare drug plan does not cover rehab services at all. Authorization questions for a stay go to whoever pays for it: Original Medicare follows its own rules, and Turquoise Care plans need no authorization for the first five days of in-state adult residential treatment. Wellcare’s formularies govern only the medications a member fills.

Does Wellcare Cover Detox in New Mexico?

No. Withdrawal care in a hospital is a Medicare Part A service, and outpatient medical care around it falls under Part B, so Medicare detox programs bill Medicare rather than Wellcare. Medications given during an outpatient taper may be filled through the Wellcare drug plan if they are on its formulary for the year.

Does Wellcare Cover Outpatient Rehab in New Mexico?

No, but Medicare Part B does. Part B covers outpatient therapy, counseling, psychiatric evaluation, medication management, family counseling and partial hospitalization when medically necessary. Medicare outpatient rehab and Medicare partial hospitalization programs bill Part B, while any prescriptions they write go to Wellcare.

Medicare-covered outpatient clinicians include psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, clinical social workers, clinical nurse specialists, nurse practitioners and physician assistants, and Medicare covers counseling by phone or video. Medicare telehealth rehab helps rural New Mexico members, and a Wellcare drug plan fills the prescriptions those visits produce.

Does Wellcare Cover Suboxone, Methadone and Other Addiction Medications in New Mexico?

Partly. Wellcare’s two drug plans for 2026 and 2027, Wellcare Classic and Wellcare Value Script, each publish a formulary, and Part D plans may cover some medications for opioid use disorder. Both drug plans carry a zero copay on Tier 1 drugs at preferred pharmacies. Medicare MAT programs check the member’s formulary before prescribing.

Does Wellcare cover methadone?

No, not for addiction treatment. Medicare covers methadone for opioid use disorder through Part B at enrolled opioid treatment programs, with counseling, drug testing and peer support, and no copay under Original Medicare after the Part B deductible. Methadone treatment programs in New Mexico bill Medicare for those services, not a Wellcare drug plan.

Does Wellcare cover Suboxone?

Coverage depends on the formulary. Buprenorphine is covered at Medicare opioid treatment programs under Part B, and a Part D plan may also cover it at the pharmacy when a doctor prescribes it in an office. Medicare Suboxone prescribers check whether Wellcare Classic or Value Script lists the product and at which tier.

Does Wellcare cover medications for mental health conditions?

Yes, within Part D rules. Part D plans must cover antidepressants, anticonvulsants and antipsychotics, with limited exceptions, which matters for members treated for depression or anxiety along with substance use. Alcohol addiction medications such as naltrexone and acamprosate appear by formulary, so the drug search for the plan year shows them.

Wellcare Rehab Centers by New Mexico Rivers, the Organ Mountains and Hot Springs

Because Wellcare pays only for prescriptions, the setting of a program does not change its coverage at all; Original Medicare or Turquoise Care decides the stay. What a Wellcare member in rehab facilities across New Mexico needs is a nearby pharmacy in the plan’s network for medications started in treatment.

Wellcare members near the Gila River

River settings in the southwest follow the Gila River north of Silver City and Cliff in Grant County, below the Gila National Forest. Riverside rehab settings there are rural, and Wellcare’s drug plans cover prescriptions at the pharmacy a member uses, while the program bills Medicare for the treatment itself.

Wellcare members near the Organ Mountains

Mountain settings in the south rise in the Organ Mountains east of Las Cruces in Doña Ana County. Rehabs near the mountains and Picacho Hills treatment programs serve Medicare members under Part A and Part B, and Wellcare’s preferred pharmacies carry the zero Tier 1 copay.

Wellcare members near hot springs

Hot springs settings in the north include Jemez Springs in Sandoval County and Ojo Caliente in Taos County. Rehabs near natural hot springs that accept Medicare bill it for the stay, and members who also have Medicaid have their Turquoise Care plan pick up what Medicare does not.

How Do I Find a Rehab That Accepts Wellcare in New Mexico?

Browse the listings on this page. Programs shown accept Medicare, which is what pays for treatment when a member’s only Wellcare product is a drug plan, and filters sort by city and level of care. Every listing has a phone number, and rehabs that accept Medicare nationwide sit on their own page.

Admission runs through the program and Medicare, or through the Turquoise Care plan for members with Medicaid. Wellcare’s role is the medication step only: current drug plan members call 1-888-550-5252 (TTY 711) about coverage, and people choosing a plan call 1-844-480-0700. The table shows who pays for each part of care.

Wellcare members in Albuquerque and Rio Rancho

Albuquerque and Rio Rancho Medicare members can pair Original Medicare with a Wellcare drug plan, or choose Medicare Advantage from other carriers; SCAN Health Plan New Mexico sold SCAN Classic HMO in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties for 2025. Programs near downtown Rio Rancho programs bill whichever applies.

Wellcare members in Las Cruces and Doña Ana County

Las Cruces members who have Medicare and Medicaid must be in a Turquoise Care plan, and Medicare Part D covers most of their drugs. A Wellcare drug plan can fill that Part D role while the Turquoise Care plan covers residential rehab, which is how Las Cruces rehab centers handle dual-eligible members.

Wellcare members in Santa Fe and northern New Mexico

Santa Fe Medicare members leaving Medicare Advantage plans that end after 2026 can move to Original Medicare and add a drug plan such as Wellcare’s, choosing during the October 15 to December 7, 2026 enrollment period. Members near Santa Fe drug rehabs keep Part A and Part B for the treatment itself.

Wellcare members in Lordsburg and Clayton

Hidalgo and Union counties had no Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico Medicare Advantage plan for 2026, so Original Medicare with a stand-alone drug plan is one route there. A Wellcare drug plan covers formulary medications for members near Lordsburg rehab programs, while Medicare pays the treatment.

Can I use Wellcare for rehab outside New Mexico?

Wellcare’s drug plans are sold in all 50 states and Washington, D.C., so the drug coverage itself is not tied to New Mexico, though pharmacy networks and preferred pharmacies apply. Treatment outside the state is a Medicare question, and Turquoise Care members need authorization before any out-of-state residential placement.

How much does rehab cost with Wellcare?

Wellcare charges nothing toward rehab services because it does not cover them; the member’s costs come from Original Medicare’s deductibles and coinsurance, or from Turquoise Care, which has no copays. On the drug side, Wellcare’s 2026 drug plans list a zero copay for Tier 1 drugs at preferred pharmacies.

Wellcare is a small part of how New Mexico Medicare members pay for treatment. Those with limited income may qualify for Turquoise Care, listed among rehabs that accept Medicaid, and others can look at state-funded Suboxone programs in the listings below.
