Common questions about Methadone Clinics

Answered from what is listed here.

Which Ohio cities have methadone clinics?

Searching by city is a practical starting point, since Ohio methadone treatment listings cluster in Cincinnati, Marion, Bexley, Springfield and Portsmouth. Mason, Columbus and Dayton are the larger cities nearby. Methadone usually means regular clinic visits early in treatment, so checking travel time from home to a listed program is worth doing before enrolling.

Rehab Centers in Cincinnatihttps://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/ohio/cincinnati/
Do methadone clinics in Ohio accept Medicaid?

Confirming which managed care plan covers you is the first step, because Ohio Medicaid benefits run through plans such as CareSource Ohio, Buckeye Community Health Plan and Molina Healthcare of Ohio. Nearly all of the methadone clinics in Ohio record accepting Ohio Medicaid, and intake staff can check whether a particular plan is in network.

Rehab Centers in Ohio That Accept Ohio Medicaidhttps://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/ohio/ohio-medicaid/
Are there methadone clinics near a river in Ohio?

Nearly all of the methadone clinics in Ohio have a river within 25 miles, at a median of about 6.4 miles from the nearest one. The most-named rivers are the Olentangy River, the East Fork Little Miami River and the Licking River.

Travel time matters more than scenery for methadone treatment, because dosing visits are frequent early on. River distances are measured from each listed program, not from the middle of each town.

Rehab Centers Near Rivershttps://rehabseekers.com/attractions/rivers/

How do methadone clinics work in Ohio, and who licenses them?

Methadone clinics in Ohio are opioid treatment programs (OTP) that dispense methadone for opioid use disorder, and the Ohio Department of Behavioral Health licenses them. Each clinic needs three things: federal certification, registration with the Drug Enforcement Administration, and that state license.

Methadone for opioid use disorder can’t be filled at a regular pharmacy, so patients come to the clinic for each measured dose. Most programs pair dosing with counseling, many also offer buprenorphine, and some offer naltrexone. Take-home doses become possible over time when medical staff judge them safe.

Ohio’s licensing path has two steps, and the department’s Licensure and Certification office handles both. A program first needs Community Behavioral Health Services certification, and after that it can apply for an OTP license under Ohio Administrative Code 5122-40-04.
