Several accounts that describe the same thing tell you more than a single strong opinion.
when i went here i had a fairly decent time! no one WANTS to be in a mental facility but my time here was actually pretty good! i feel like it was good for me because i was good and didnt get put on therapeutic… vacation. the food was great and the staff was nice to me and i loved them all.
They handled our situation very professionally and the communication was top tier with anything going on
Worst place ever I took my mom in while she was having a mental health emergency and they released her while she was still having mental health problems all they did was sedated her while she was there and because of… her being high manic when time of release she’s became a danger to herself and others. I would never take her there ever again I should have read these reviews before wasting our time and my moms.
Wonderful experience. The staff were all so kind and caring. They helped me.
I cannot say enough about how grateful I am to Rivendell for the care, patience, and support they have shown my grandson. As a grandparent, there is nothing more important than knowing your child is somewhere they are… getting help and feel safe, heard, respected, and cared for. Rivendell & it’s staff gave him the support he needed, and for that, I am truly thankful. I especially want to recognize a staff my grandson mentioned, Ms. Karesha. My grandson spoke so highly of her and told me how understanding she was, how included and heard she made him & his patient friends feel, and how she helped talk with him to calm down when he was having an episode . Those may seem like small things to some people, but to a child who is going through a challenging experience, those moments can make a world of difference. Thank you, Ms. Karesha and Rivendell for seeing my grandson as a person, for being patient with him, and for making him feel like he belonged. Your kindness and understanding definitely left an impact on him and he has changed , and as his grandparent, that means more to me than I can put into words. The work you do is important, and I hope you know that families notice it and appreciate it. From the bottom of my heart, thank you, Rivendell, and a very special thank you to Ms. Karesha.
I’ve thought long and hard about my review for this place. While technically a “hospital” I would use that term loosely. Unfortunately, I have had 2 visits to the adult detox. While it’s definitely an established that… provides medical care to some degree it lacks the feeling of a hospital. They are constantly understaffed and it’s just a bunch of sitting around and waiting because no one seems to know who’s coming for what etc. The rooms are shared, which is fine, but they are super uncomfortable. Staff at lights out shine a light in your eyes every 15 minutes while trying to sleep and that doesn’t help to get rest. Rest and hydration are 2 important factors in recover especially in the detox phase. Hydration is hard because everything is locked up. Asking for some electrolytes like Gatorade and the nurses pour from a bottle into a small cup like it’s breaking their bank. Of all things I can think of compassion lacks more than any. There is staff that definitely cares but for the most part they just push and heard you around like cattle all day. Constantly treating you like a number and just giving demands like you are ignorant of simple procedure. They give demands and structure without treating you like they are helping. It really makes you feel like an even worse person for getting help finally. While I do like the group sessions, I believe that individual help is needed as well. Everything is done as a group. There is not one time that anything is done for an individual. They put you in this fringe category of everyone is the same and treat it like you are doing time. I really don’t feel like I got any individual help at all. Even the therapist that spent about 5 minutes with all of us even admitted he was checked out. After detox, I opted to do a PHP program there. Again, when we got one on one time with our therapist it seemed rushed and just to check it off the list. About 2 weeks into PHP apparently they were short staffed again and moved out adult substance abuse group in with another group for lack of therapist/facilitators. That seems to be the biggest issue to me. Being so short staffed everyone is overworked and just doesn’t care about the individual. Communication between the patient and what’s going on with them is another thing. I was left in the dark both visits with not knowing how things were going or what their/my plan was. I do know what all us patients plan was and that was to get out of there because they make it so uncomfortable to bare another day in that place. I hate to say that buts it’s the truth. None of us were ever getting the care and comfortability that we needed as volunteer patients seeking help. There’s a few good things but only minimal. Yes, I did detox (just not comfortably). I did get a start on recovery. I did learn to accept things. It lead me (own my on) to find individual help outside of Rivendell that’s helped more than they ever could. If I had to recommend this place for a detox program I’d tell people to stay away as bad as I hate to say that. There’s some good people trying to help that works there but overall my experience both times has been negative. God forbid if I ever have to seek out help again for my addiction I’d rather do it at home by myself than go to Rivendell. I guess this is why they have such low ratings on Google.
I found Rivendell to be wonderful. I Thank you for calling me to let know how my child was doing and the progress she was making. The ladies at the front desk were ever so nice to us while we were waiting to be… admitted. We actually had fun and even when we went to get her they were awesome. The staff was really great.
This place was an absolute nightmare. I came here for detox and left in worse shape than when I arrived. Instead of getting the medical detox care I desperately needed, they put me on the mental health unit. I weighed… around 100 pounds, my body was shutting down, and I needed rest, fluids, and medical treatment. Instead, I was expected to participate in activities my body simply could not handle. It got so bad I had to call 911 just to get IV fluids so my body could function. Think about that—a patient admitted for detox had to call an ambulance because the facility wasn't meeting basic medical needs. I felt trapped. I was held against my will, and the entire place felt more like a jail than a treatment center. The few times you were allowed outside, you were locked in what felt like a cage. Even the showers were disgusting, with no shower shoes provided. I went there looking for help during one of the hardest times of my life. What I found was neglect, humiliation, and an experience that left me physically and emotionally worse. I would never trust this facility with someone I love.
people like to hate on this place but its not bad at all I love all the staff on trust (even you Bradley) thank you all for being there for me when I needed you -3 time paient KL
Gave my kid prozac and forced them on it had to change it as they have Steven Johnson syndrome to prozac nurses treated kids bad
I'll recommend this place to anyone who needs help. My son had to come here for some help and let me tell you, the staff was ALWAYS courteous, polite, and professional when my wife called to check on our son. They also… called daily to provide status updates on him on his progress. When my wife would call later that day for another update or clarification on an update, the staff never got upset or hateful, always helpful and courteous and provided the information needed. Our son was so happy on the phone calls when we spoke to him on the phone, you could tell he was being treated like a human being and not a statistic. I highly recommend this facility to anyone in need of help. I would rate 100 stars if Google would allow it. Thank you for taking such good care of our son.
The staff there are AMAZING!!! Everyone did everything possible to help me with my needs. The Dr.'s and nursing staff actually care about you as a patient instead of it just being another job they have to show up at.… Special thanks to Mark and Larry
They ended the Girls Trust Program while my daughter was in the middle of her substance abuse program. Instead of keeping the girls separated they combined the remaining few with the New Direction unit on the other side… which is for suicide prevention. My daughter no longer got the resources she had for her program. Her virtual schooling was cut to a third of what it was causing her school work to fall behind. Her last few weeks there were miserable.
Called to find out why my daughter wasn’t given back her books which were school books when she was released. They put me on hold then said someone will be calling me back and haven’t heard anything else from them.
The children’s staff was wonderful!
Formal Complaint Regarding Treatment and Communication at Facility As a parent, this was one of the most alarming and upsetting situations I have ever encountered. From the moment our child was admitted, we were not… provided with any clear orientation or explanation of procedures, expectations, or communication policies. At no point were we adequately informed that we would be unable to contact our child for an extended period (approximately 32–72 hours). This lack of transparency created confusion, fear, and emotional distress for our entire family. During this time, our child was visibly distressed—crying and reportedly experiencing a fever, which we believe was related to separation anxiety. Despite our repeated requests to speak with or check on our child, we were denied communication and given little to no information about her condition or well-being. After multiple attempts, we were eventually able to meet with a staff member in a supervisory role. During that conversation, we clearly expressed that we had brought our child to the facility to receive care, support, and behavioral guidance—not to be treated as though she were in a correctional environment. Unfortunately, the overall approach and handling of the situation did not reflect a therapeutic or supportive setting. Additionally, the involvement of law enforcement in a situation where we were simply seeking information about our child was both unexpected and intimidating. Our only concern throughout this process was the safety and well-being of our child, yet we were met with resistance rather than reassurance. While most of our experience was negative, I would like to acknowledge one staff member, Dr. Ragu, who demonstrated professionalism, compassion, and a genuine willingness to help. Her efforts stood in stark contrast to the broader experience we encountered. Based on this experience, I have serious concerns regarding the facility’s communication practices, level of transparency, and overall approach to child care. Families should be fully informed, supported, and treated with respect—especially in situations involving vulnerable children. I strongly urge the facility to review its policies and procedures to ensure that no other family undergoes a similar experience
My 9 year old has been having a lot of behavioral issues that had reached an unimaginable point. He was originally supposed to be on a 72 hr hold, then when the nurse called a few hours later she stated it would be a… week (prior to him speaking to doctors). Then they let him out on the 5th day. They were supposed to set us up with follow up care/referrals and a few days supply of the medication that was started there; both didn’t happen. I was worried about this facility based on the reviews so I will say that they let my child take care of his hygiene and they also let him make phone calls (he utilized the option). The facility was clean and all staff were helpful and I was able to call and check on him frequently.
PHP it’s so caring the nurses in the caseworkers keep us updated works with us with our son‘s medicine and you can feel that they really care and are so helpful !
They had grate staff and sensrey group wus fun!!!!!! (I Lost My Mind and I came here it was fun I was at Woodland elementary school Radc1if ky) (they had apple jacks) (room 344 has the word f.u.c.k in the bathroom and… near 1 or 2 beds) they wake you up at (7:00) (8:00EST) and I lost my button up sponge bob pants
DO NOT GO. When I was there I was forgotten about woke me up so many times at 2 am to 1 am over and over again food ok you have to have on a tracker one of the people there had a purple hand because of it I asked so… many times for me to use the bathroom and that I needed medication they didn't give me meds they forced me into confinmet and not fed the 4 days i was in there didn't give me any of my calls 2 dead wasps in my bed pee and poop everywhere from the last person had to have on the same shirt same pants on for all 10 days they let other punch me but when I tried to punch someone back they injected me with some medicine that made me sleep 2 days and it made me numb in both of my legs DO NOT GO
Do NOT take someone here if you care about them. They ignore red flags with their patients. They ignore family members concerns. They aren’t concerned about their patients or the patient’s family. They are an assembly… line “mental health provider. This place has no business dealing with mental health and will release patients when they are still a danger to themselves. Another note for anyone with religious beliefs - they don’t just ignore them, they argue that you’re wrong.
So thankful to everyone at PHP. They went above and beyond for my girl. She loved everyone there and was disappointed at discharge due to fact she would miss the staff.
This place traumatized me for life
PHP truly changed my daughter’s life. Haley (therapist) and Jen (nurse) made an incredible difference and impact. The kids have to want the change themselves, but once they reach that point, these ladies help guide them… toward real growth. Even during difficult moments, they maintained professionalism while still holding the kids accountable. They weren’t afraid to call my daughter on her behavior and challenge her in ways that helped her grow. I’m not discounting my daughter’s hard work and personal growth—it absolutely came from her. But Haley and Jen played a huge role in supporting and guiding that change, and I’m incredibly grateful for the impact they had on her life.
The place was wonderful but the water still has my skin peeling off of me a month later
