Sanstone Care – Crownsville Detox and Rehab Services
The provision listed at Sanstone Care – Crownsville is detox and residential treatment. The withdrawal stage is clinically observed, which is what makes it safer than stopping alone. Anyone unsure which level fits should ask for an assessment rather than choosing from a list, since placement criteria exist precisely to make that judgement.

Sanstone Care – Crownsville Reviews and Ratings
Many treatment programs look similar on a list of services. Reviews of Sanstone Care show how those services were experienced by patients in Crownsville.
Accounts from family members are worth reading too, since they often describe communication and visiting in more detail.
Our son recently completed a 50 day program after being diagnosed with substance induced psychosis. The treatment team at Sandstone Care in Crownsville, MD developed a high level of treatment, therapy and personal… connection with our son and was able to manage his care and daily quality of life.
Our family had a wonderful experience at Sandstone. Our teen was making terrible choices and nothing we were doing as parents was working. Sandstone’s whole of person concept of care was everything our family needed.… The program provided a personal therapist for our teen; along with twice a day group therapy sessions; pet therapy; nature walks; and fun group outings. They also provided us a family therapist and offered voluntary group therapy sessions for all the parents who currently had teens in the program, which was a great resource and helped my husband and I feel less alone. From the intake to the out processing, my teen reported feeling safe and well cared for and my husband and I shared that sentiment. We were a little nervous going in because of the online reviews, but if your family is struggling with a teen with addiction, we highly recommend this place. Our teen did say that the food was terrible, but I’d rather the food be terrible and the program be excellent than the other way around. Our teen just started college and said the program was a great way to reset and get back on track.
You need to be able to give negative stars! Our child was administratively discharged for violent behavior and sent home anyway, with no meaningful safety plan in place for our family. We were told she was “stable,”… despite events immediately preceding her discharge that suggested otherwise. As parents, we repeatedly voiced our concerns and felt they were dismissed. The discharge process appeared rushed, communication was poor, and the safety of our family did not seem to be the priority. I truly hope Sandstone reevaluates how it handles administrative discharges and starts listening to the families who know these children best.
Good communication with staff. Wonderful atmosphere. Good vibes.
I trusted Sandstone Care to take care of my child in our time of need and they did exactly that. The staff there were extremely helpful, friendly and communicative and supported my son and his recovery and transition.… To the staff there, it wasn’t just work It was about changing lives and we are forever grateful. Sandstone Care changed our lives in the most meaningful and positive way and we are grateful for them and all of their support.
I enrolled my child at Sandstone Rehabilitation with high hopes based on the information provided to our family. Unfortunately, our experience was very disappointing. Communication with parents was poor throughout the… program. There were instances of missed medications, which was extremely concerning, and the food quality was consistently poor. One of my biggest concerns was the lack of educational support. My child received little to no schoolwork while in treatment, leaving him behind academically. I was also disappointed that several of the activities and amenities promoted to us either never happened or were not available. We were told there would be access to a gym, but much of the equipment was broken. Horse therapy was discussed but never occurred, and music therapy also never materialized during my child's stay. Additionally, there appeared to be very little focus on helping the teens build healthy support systems after discharge. Within less than a week of returning home, my child was participating in group chats with several former rehab peers where photos were being shared and stories about getting high again were being discussed. This was incredibly discouraging and seemed counterproductive to recovery. While I understand that no treatment program can guarantee success, I expected better communication, stronger clinical follow-through, more accountability regarding promised services, and better preparation for maintaining sobriety after discharge. Unfortunately, this program did not work for my child, and our experience fell far short of expectations.
I don't even know where to start. My child was placed here and it was, without a doubt, one of the worst decisions I've made as a parent. The disorganization starts at the top and works its way down. The previous… director ran things based on her feelings rather than any kind of clinical or operational logic. A new director is apparently in place now, but given how corporate has handled everything else, I'm not holding my breath that they'll actually let her fix anything. The kids run the houses. That's not an exaggeration. Staff don't seem to have the training or the support to manage the milieu effectively, and my child came home telling me things that would make your stomach drop. When therapists try to advocate or push back, they apparently get written up over nonsense, meanwhile the actual problems walk around unchecked. The "five star" reviews on here are not hard to spot. They read like HR wrote them. If you're reading this while trying to decide — go out of state if you have to. Drive the extra hours. It is absolutely worth it. Sandstone markets itself as a place that cares. In my experience, they do not. This is not a safe place for your child.
I put my daughter on Wednesday to get better she ran away with another girl right the next day and we still looking for her, nobody talk to me about unsecured doors or the kids can easily run away otherwise I wouldn’t… put my daughter there, and when I call them to ask if they heard anything about my daughter they say no but call the cops and ask them , they are so cold when they answer like they lost a cat not a kid. And we have no idea who is the other girl and if she knows a gang or a member in a gang or what. Anyway I’m still looking for my daughter but if something bad happens to her then I’ll have a different say.
My daughter was sent here due to her use of marijuana. The only 1 star would be for the intake lady. She was super helpful & kind. Then we got scheduled for drop off on a Monday. Received our packing list on that… Saturday night. Packing list says every item needs to be brand new & unopened. So we had to run out on Sunday to buy everything on her list. Then we drop it off with her & they only let her have half of it because they said the other half had Alcohol as one of the first 3 ingredients. But there was no explanation of this on the packing list itself. Then we get there & the lady doing our paperwork REAKS of weed. Whatever, not my business what you do on your free time. But then she explained that the snow has had her stuck there for the last 36 hours.. so apparently she was smoking weed on the property. While my daughter was there there were multiple incidents between her & another client. The most recent & biggest incident, they were sitting at a table (all the kids & a tech). He was giving her a hard time & she looked at the tech to see if she was going to do anything about it & the tech was sitting on her phone not paying attention so my daughter went after the boy because she had had enough & nobody was doing anything. Then she gets released & we get the paper of all the medication they put her on. Apparently she had some stomach issues while she was there & they had her on consipatjon meds & then loose stool meds back & forth several times in the 50 days she was there. We also found out she was having suicidal ideations while there & nobody ever informed us. When I asked why we weren’t told anything, their response was “she didn’t have a REAL plan on how she was going to do it so we didn’t feel the need to” but has physical self harm injuries on her body. Now that it’s been about 2 weeks we are noticing that she has no idea what an “addiction” is, nor the dangers of mixing drugs with the medications she takes daily. So we’re not even sure what she learned, if anything, while she was there. They also say that they’re able to keep up with their school work while there. It took them weeks to get into contact with the school & when they finally did they had horrible wifi so she got zero schoolwork done while she was there & then had to step down to PHP & then IOP therefore she is missing her entire second half of her junior year.
i enjoyed this place in the end, the population of girls were strictly focused on drama and sexual relationships. they did not treat their staff the same while some were getting away with things others were getting… write ups for. the houses are always dirty with things lying around always, even after cleaning ladies come. staff rarely contacts home when making changes to medications or treatment itself, clients at sandstone are strictly prohibited from items that can be used for self harm or destruction of property, staff watches you during your phone calls, they will listen to others issues and not let you tell your side of the story. overall i would not send your child to sandstone due to its lack of dicipline and tidiness.
Doctor Doza is a great psychiatrist. He helps you with any problems you have and when you first see him he reviews all your previous medications and only prescribes the ones you need. I definitely recommend you see him… and make him your permanent psychiatrist.
The people at this facility are amazing, and simply are saving lives. I would ignore the anon person below, they are likely incompetent or fail to understand the true nature of SUD treatment. The cops and the local… hospital are incompetent as well, and often are extremely unprofessional. I would do your due diligence and take in many points of data - my child left the facility changed and for the better
A family member attended Sandstone for mental health and addiction treatment. After numerous attempts at other facilities, Sandstone was truly the catalyst for change. My family member is doing well and I'm deeply… grateful that Sandstone was able to open their eyes in a way no other program was able to. The staff was professional, compassionate, and genuinely caring - something we hadn't experienced to this level at other places.
I was pleased with the staff. We had regular communication with the counselors. Our son really connected to the counselors and care techs at the facility. I would recommend to anyone who has a teenager struggling with… substance use.
As a behavioral health professional for over 50 years, I am often asked where I would recommend care for adolescents and young adults. Sandstone Care stands out for its strong clinical oversight, family involvement, and… commitment to evidence-based treatment. Parents looking for high-quality care where outcomes mater, can feel confident in the standards Sandstone holds itself to.
I've had friends and neighbors ask me about Sandstone Care's behavioral health services when they are searching to find care for their loved ones who are struggling. From a Professional standpoint, Sandstone Care is an… organization I respect for the commitment from the staff for clinical rigor, leadership and family centered services. I am proud to recommend Sandstone Care to anyone I meet.
I've had the opportunity to see Sandstone Care's commitment to clinical quality, ethical operations, and family-centered care up close - I'm confident in the care provided and extremely proud to support an organization… that prioritizes both patient wellbeing and accountability! Keep up the good work!
I truly can't thank the staff enough at the teen center in Crownesville, MD. Amber B, Justice W, Abby S, Quinn, Lala, several nurses, and staff members have taken my calls, emails, and texts daily. Having their support… has meant everything to my family. They truly want what is best for my son and been extremely helpful and accommodating.
out of all the rehabs i been to this the only one that worked. i’m cali sober, meaning i still smoke and drink, but i don’t do anything else anymore. the only “negative” is that the food sucked but even then we were… able to have our parents bring us food. not to add i went in 2023 so i am more than positive they upgraded. all of their staff genuinely care about the patients coming in and out. if you’re considering sending your child to this facility, this is their best option, coming from an individual who spent her life in and out of hospitals and residentials. this is the best place you will ever find.
Very grateful for Sandstone. The intake process was smooth and easy during a scary and stressful time for our family. The staff were highly compassionate, communicative and skilled with both me (the mom) and their… client (my daughter). While the journey itself was difficult, my daughter and I each in our own way felt supported the whole time. Her therapist, Kaelenn Keller, clicked with her right away and also provided valuable support to me. My daughter continued in from residential to IOP. Together these programs helped her immensely. I did not expect her to be so self aware so quickly. Although she was not given a choice to go, she was able to look back on the experience as favorable and necessary almost right away, which I think alone speaks volumes for the quality of care they provide. Forever grateful to the staff for helping my daughter.
Heyyy yall but ms d brina still miss you she be talkin bout you still sometimes nd how you was ah good therapist nd you helped her improve a lot from her hard times and she is getting better and rlly appreciates you… help and she will look for you as a therapist in 8 years she not bluffin she do miss you and jus sayin Boris is one of the worst therapist in dat join he dnt help fo nun I jus recommend yall goin to ah hospital if you need help🤷♂️
My child was at Sandstone for residential rehab, and I’m very grateful for the care and structure the team provided during a difficult time for our family. Right from the start, Bart, the intake coordinator, was… incredibly helpful. He guided me through the entire process with clarity and empathy, even when things were moving fast. He took the time to speak with my son directly to understand his situation and make sure Sandstone would be a good fit for him. His calm, detailed approach made a very stressful day much easier, and I’ll always be thankful for that. Once my son was admitted, his therapist, Yasmine Bailey, was truly exceptional. She took the time to deeply understand him — his emotions, his patterns, and his defenses — and built a real connection. She was warm and supportive yet not afraid to call him out when needed, helping him recognize his behaviors without judgment. As a parent, I appreciated how she never rushed our conversations. She spent a lot of time patiently answering my questions, following up on every action item, and even joining family sessions when I requested to help my son open up about tough topics. We also had a very positive experience with his family therapist Abigail Singh. She was very patient and facilitated family sessions in an effective manner. I highly recommend Sandstone, especially for families looking for compassionate, professional, and genuinely caring people who make a real difference.
worst experience ever-communication was awful. My daughter was there for 11 days and had only one therapy session. We were supposed to have weekly family sessions but they canceled and we never met. Daughter told us… other kids into hardcore drugs and she was there for pot. Head of place told me kids were not telling the truth. She had access to pot vapes, saw kids having sex, saw kids running away and fist fights. We were promised 2 hours of school a day and she had nothing in 11 days. told parents support group on thursdays and then told hot now. Picked her up and promised discharge paperwork within 72 hours and its been over a week. PLEASE DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD HERE.
I had an extremely negative experience at this rehab facility. Instead of helping me heal, it actually made my mental health worse. The staff were unprofessional and often dismissive, they hired a teacher that was… unprofessional and rude to other staff, there showing little to no empathy toward the clients. It was clear that the focus was more on making money than on actually supporting recovery. Because I got SAD and my therapist did nothing to really help me in the situation she barely even made meetings with me. The environment was cold and unsupportive, there were many fights between eachother and drama a very unhealthy and stressful environment in my opinion and basic needs were often ignored or delayed. Therapist just laugh at our words but they know that some of what we’re saying is true they just think we are taking advantage of it but we’re not you guys just write writeups for things that don’t even deserve one, kick out people without telling them, and hoping they come home becoming sober well your hopes are unreal because with this place the chances are less.im glad that there are some techs that understand our needs but there place is to low to fix or say anything, thank you maverick, kadisha(sorry if I spelled it wrong), Stella, and patrick you guys really helped in this very stressful environment. If you’re looking for real help, I strongly advise looking elsewhere—this place is more damaging than it is healing.
Sandstone is professional, and the center is easy to get to. The staff clearly care a lot about helping people get healthier
I stayed at sandstone for 45 days and this is what I have to say. Sandstone Care was not what they said it would be. The website claimed there was a beach nearby and other cool things that were not actually real. That… felt like a trick. The regular staff were kind and tried to help but the administrative team was very unorganized and hard to deal with. They messed up schedules and didn’t seem to care. The worst part was a therapist that was assigned to me, that did not help me treatment for 4 weeks into the stay. She was rude and didn’t listen to what anyone had to say. It made the experience stressful. People go there for help and deserve honesty and better treatment from everyone. But once I switched therapists to Mr Norris, he made more goals and helped me for a week and 5 days. Better than she did in 4 weeks
