Clement J Zablocki VAMC – Milwaukee Detox and Rehab Services
Clement J Zablocki VAMC – Milwaukee delivers detox, residential treatment, partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient. Withdrawal is managed under clinical observation before other treatment begins, which matters most in the first seventy-two hours for alcohol and benzodiazepines. Sessions follow a set timetable while people keep living at home.
Both conditions are treated in parallel, which is what the research supports. Medication-assisted treatment combines approved medication with counseling and clinical review. Establishing what happens after the program ends is worth doing early. Ask how the program handles someone who has been through treatment before.

The staff at the Dental clinic is AWESOME. They are very professional, super enthusiastic and really effective. I thank my stars to Dr Patel and all his staff, as well as all the care provided by Dr Daniels and his… staff. Thank you for taking such great care of me, of all of us.
Thee rudest hospital staff. From check in staff to the nurses to the doctors. Sad how they treat the veterans here.
"Life"saving done with care and compassion!
update: 27AUG26 the pharmacy sucks, get all your scripts mailed! they don’t have any urgency. wasted an hour waiting for a script that was out of stock. no one said anything. now i’m spending more time in dermatology… waiting for some help. what a joke. the ladies at derm were nice and dealt with angry mood, when it wasn’t their fault. i appreciate them.
Amazing facility and staff!
I've been bringing my dad to this VA for the last few months, and after just our first visit, we knew he was in good hands. Every specialist we've seen have been nothing but hands on, attentive, thorough, empathetic,… patient and helpful. From Dr.B in oncology, to Tess up in endoscopy, these women are some of the most kind medical professionals I have ever met, and I hope they know their kindness goes a long way and is still thought of well after. I have had so many wonderful interactions with the staff there, there was a nurse who ordered my dad some lunch as he was in recovery after a procedure, which was such a nice thing to do, I didn't catch her name but she might be the charge nurse in endoscopy maybe? Another thing I really liked about this VA is that if you look lost and wandering the halls, there are many friendly faces around to get you pointed in the right direction, and most of the time they'll ask YOU first lol. There was also a younger man up front who helped lead me to the other building over to 114 through the tunnel, he didn't have to, but he did, just over all blown away by the difference of health care compared to the other VA my dad was going to. And with already having seen someone in Pulmonary, Radiation/oncology, Endoscopy, ED department, mental health, Hematology, Chemotherapy, Pain clinic, XRAY, PET SCAN, and MRI, I have nothing but good things to say. Thank you kindly, for everything.
Best place I ever been in my life and they saved my life there. I love the VA great place to go great place to share a great place to make friends help yourself and go there. Thank you. My name is Dennis.
Let me transparent here, this rating im giving is NOT for the staff because Lord knows, they're amazing. Its for the hospital administration and higher because they just make everything harder for most of us Vets.
They always make you feel welcome.
Helpful people. I've been going through hard times. They make me feel like I matter.
Never had issues with the VA but also never used the urgent care (which is the ER) until today. Waiting room turned over what seemed like twice over hours and I was still waiting. This solidified for me that driving so… far for care isn't worth it. Left without treatment to a civilian center. Edit: community care team. What a mess. I have a job during normal business hours I only have half an hour break with which I can make the phone call if I'm on hold for the whole half hour I can't communicate with you. On the rare occasion I do get ahold of you you still mail me letters saying that you're unable to reach me. I have two Community Care referrals outstanding currently. I spoke to your agent and set up my preferred facility to have the referral done at and I still get a letter saying you've tried to reach out to me but haven't been able to and I've heard nothing from an outside agency to schedule. How does someone actually make this system work? Strangely having two referrals you only discussed one of them with me the other one I've heard nothing about not one single thing and I've called you multiple times I would like to mail you a letter saying I've reached out to you. Do you have a secure email that we can communicate with so that a paper trail can be documented
Everything I was ever told before I went in the military, and when I was in, was to avoid the VA at all costs. And I did. Even for 14 years since I had gotten out. Then I had some medical stuff come up and I reached out… to an Air Force buddy and he was shocked that I wasn't being treated at the VA. I called the 1-800 number for eligibility, and had an appointment scheduled the next day. I get that every VA probably is a little nuanced, but the Milwaukee location has been incredible to say the least. Everything I was told was completely untrue or just outdated. These men and women are awesome.
Tired of all the B.S. prescriptions constantly late either due to the VA or USPS, wait times to be seen takes for ever just to get an appointment and dealing with the residents. I have been being seen at dermatology for… what is normally a 15 minute appointment for 3 years now. I have squamous cell carcinoma and A.C.. I asked to be seen by Com Care at a local clinic for a 2nd opinion, the wait time and because of I 94 being messed up. I was denied bc they said the mileage and wait times are not within their regulations. It takes me an hour to go from Waukesha to Milwaukee and it should only take 20-30 minutes. They basically told me that I would have to drive to Madison which in actual drive time is 1.25 hrs. to be seen for a 2nd opinion. Asked the person who denied me if they saw the irony in that!!! We’ll send you an hour and 25 minutes for a second opinion but deny you a 5 minute drive to a dermatologist who is in the network for com care. I know bc dermatologist sent me there to have a MOE procedure done. I am 100% disabled. I can’t afford to have private insurance and therefore have to put up with this.
Updated 5/5/26 . Again, this VA Hospital is the best. They helped me to get a Stairlift for my injured knees to assist with my mobility. They were fast and professional. Love the Zablocki VA hospital in Milwaukee, Wi.… They love their veterans and work hard to take care of us. Some of the best medical staff in the world. This hospital is more concerned about the veterans health and well being. Less concerned with getting money like some hospitals are. I would give them a 10 stars!! Dr. Sarmiento is one of the best doctors at the VA. They are lucky to have him. It has been my personal honor to have served veterans for over 48 years in the following positions: Outreach Worker, Benefits Counselor, PTSD Intake Counselor, Job Developer, DVOP, LVER, Regional Coordinator, Claims Specialist, Veterans Program Director, General Manager of NAB-V Temporary Services, Director of Management Services, National Director and Vice President of Administration. We love our VA! Richard Rodgers
The visit felt organized and clear.
I was in a lot of intense pain when I came into the ED. It isn't the first time unfortunately I have had to be there. Nobody wants to come to the ED but I am thankful to you guys for quickly taking care of my pain that… day. I actually managed to sleep some thanks to you guys in the emergency room. It means a lot when you are down bad like I was.
MY UNCLE REST N PEACE WAS THERE! HE PASSED THERE ON MARCH 1ST. THE STAFF WAS VERY NICE! FROM CHECK IN TO NURSES.
This place has truly saved my life.....multiple times. I know Abe Lincoln's mission statement and I know we earned the right to VA care, but, I am so grateful that the Zablocki VA is my VA. I have been given another… shot at life with my daughter. It is also awesome that we have a regional benefits office right next door. My daughter has insurance until she is 18 because of them. God bless this place and all staff. Shout out DOM 123, CWT, Peer Support's Gus and Mike, Dr. Haight and Dr. Stohs. They cared for me even when I did not. Thank You.
Absolutely love it here!
The best care.
A family member had a triple heart bypass at this hospital and the quality of care was beyond expectations. If anyone has the opportunity to seek care Clement Zablocki Veterans Hospital is the one you will not be… disappointed with Top notch Doctor’s,nurses, specialists and complete staff.
Great care from wonderful staff!
The primary care facilities actually are pretty good. But what absolutely destroys this buildings reputation is the systemic failure of a pharmacy department. Lost refills, constant underfills that they still bill out… as a full refill, multiple instances of sending the wrong prescription, lack of communication throughout the department, and a COMPLETE lack of care towards patients. I have, in 2 and a half years, called about 10 times to set refills aside for pickup because they have lost it about 8 times (yes, a combined 18 months of issues in 30 months, enjoy THAT math). Each and every time they mail it out, including right now where I'm sitting in the parking lot because they mailed out a prescription I called ahead on Friday (1/16/26) and was ASSURED it would be available for pickup today (Tuesday 1/20/26) and they mailed it out this morning. I'm so happy I'm moving and don't have to deal with this disgrace of a Veteran Care department.
My PT is the best and they have good programs for the vets. When it comes to the lost and found- they are completely disorganized. The VA police are incompetent and do not have access to the lost and found. The… supervisor for the lost and found was rude and incompetent as well, but the vet who helped me, even through he didn't really know what to do, he helped me the most.
