About High Watch Recovery Center – Kent

High Watch Recovery Center sits at 62 Carter Road, Kent — around 3.2 miles from Cornwall Bridge and 6.5 from New Preston. Within around 8 miles that includes Cornwall Bridge, New Preston, Cornwall and West Cornwall. Kent sits in Litchfield County, and the county’s own provision is limited enough that this site draws from a wide area.

The facility runs detox, residential treatment and intensive outpatient. Licensing sits with the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, alongside federal SAMHSA registration. Approved medication runs alongside counseling, which is what medication-assisted treatment means in practice. Telehealth appointments are available, which matters where the drive is long. Veterans and serving personnel are among the groups served.

This place is the most amazing place I’ve ever had the pleasure to be at. The feeling you get when you come up that big hill is undescribable. Serenity is an understatement! I couldn’t imagine my life better than it is… thanks to this place! Anybody who needs help this is the place you want!

This amazing facility saved my life and I am forever grateful!!! The staff, programming and facilities are off the chart. The therapists are amazing and always available and on top of every detail. P.s. the kitchen… staff and the food is an 11 out of 10!!!

Great overall. A few staff members could do better. Olivia’s tone & Jason / Nicole’s response time could be far more efficiently operated. Not to say I wouldn’t go again. But hey, I guess there’s a reason they aren’t… therapists themselves. Anyway, 9.8/10 for overall program. Very appreciative. Don and Dana were two of my favorite people. Also let’s not forget about Lou who specializes in aftercare and also El. Thanks High Watch.

A little over 16 years ago I was a broken man, literally dying. High Watch and its amazing staff taught me how to live a life without alcohol and drugs and gave me all the tools to become the person I am today. Sober… for over 16 years straight!

They rejected me from treatment because they said I needed a higher level of care despite having marijuana as my only substance I was using, but they cited my mental health diagnosis (probably the dissociative disorder)… as their reasoning for turning me down. Which is in no way a bad reflection of how I am as a person. Then they referred me to a 40k a month rehab as if I could afford that or something. I ended up going to a different rehab and now have 4 months sober (while I’m editing this I now have 7 months sober), riding high and no one ever had any problems with me. Thank god this place rejected me because it seems like not such a good place with arrogant staff who make decisions with no basis in reality. The biggest problem was though that I ended up lying to the next rehab and telling them I was bipolar and it screwed up my whole treatment. They thought my alters were grandiose delusions. Just lead to more traumatic experiences. Thanks for all your help! Not. Their policy is dangerous, damaging, lazy and dishonest.

The best decision I ever made, this wasn't my first treatment center but definitely the last. I spent 6 months here and changed my life forever. The program and top notch AA, the staff is unforgettable. This place can… change your life too but remember the work is personal. They give you the tools and teach you how to use them its up to you after that. The program invites you to change you just have to be willing. If you had a bad experience maybe you were looking for an exertional change, this is an inside job at the end of the day. Good luck if you in need of help, this is the first step. Highly recommended.

HighWatch Recovery Center is a truly extraordinary place— a rich history, rooted in the 12 Steps, and committed to deep, lasting transformation. The moment you arrive on the serene, spiritual campus in the hills of… Connecticut, you feel the legacy of healing that has taken place there for decades. It’s a sacred space where recovery is honored and lives are rebuilt with dignity and purpose. The entire team at HighWatch is world-class—compassionate, knowledgeable, and deeply invested in each individual’s journey. The integration of evidence-based practices with spiritual growth and community support creates a powerful and balanced approach to healing. Every aspect of the program, from the therapeutic work to the fellowship among peers, reflects thoughtful care and an unwavering commitment to recovery. HighWatch isn’t just a treatment center—it’s a place where people find hope, rediscover themselves, and begin a new chapter. If you or someone you love is struggling, this is a place where true healing can begin. I’m beyond grateful to have witnessed the magic of this incredible program.

This place is amazing. The staff is beyond incredible. They make you feel like family. They truly care for you. I stayed for 95 days. Best thing I ever did. Oh and you eat like a king lol some of the best food ever and… the bakery is out of this world. In all seriousness this place is an amazing place to get help. I felt welcomed by all the other guests as well. Everyone is there for the same reason so its very easy to get along and you build a family forever . I've been out for over 6 months now and I still talk to at least 15 of the guys. Highly recommend. In fact I have already recommend it to a few people. And i met some people here in bennington vt where I go to AA that went to h.w back in the day. Can't wait to go back for a prime rib dinner soon..

I am a two time alum of High Watch and I owe the place so much. The first time I went in July 2023 was the first time I ever tried to get sober - I was terrified to enter treatment, didn’t want the help, was angry and… frankly wasn’t ready to get sober. High Watch nonetheless showed me so much love, support and encouragement during my 28 day stay, and in the months following my discharge. They met me where I was and didn’t give up trying to help me. This stay at High Watch was the first time in my life I felt like I belonged somewhere. I came back 6 months later in February 2024 and this time stayed for 4.5 months - completed the regular 28 day program and also the 3 month extended guest program. I am still sober today. If it hadn’t been for my extremely positive experience during round 1, I would never have returned. The staff at High Watch genuinely care about every single guest there, the therapists and group sessions are great, and the campus is beautiful. There are quite a lot of rules / a rigid daily schedule, which was sometimes tough but for me I needed this kind of structure. What’s also cool is that so many (I think the majority) of staff members are in recovery themselves and many have gone through High Watch so they get what it’s like to be in treatment and how hard it is, especially at the beginning. High Watch also helps set you up with plans after your discharge and have great connections with sober livings and IOPs to help with your aftercare plans. For what it’s worth, the food is also amazing 😊

Dont return calls. Made a meeting with anne corey never followed through and told (patient ) i mean vacationer idìdnt call. Have email showing confirmation. Unqualified staff. Just a luxury vacation. No after care… support called for support in crisis phone only rings no voicemail no answering machine. Next day call back first question from high watch was about insurance. No regard of the crisis with no support from high watch personal. What they teach in first 30 days they repeat in 60 days and the same at 90 days and every one gets a participant award shining little coin ohh what a good job. What a laugh 😃

Been to Highwatch as a person seeking recovery. It’s laughable to suggest an individual struggling with a lifelong addiction problem will be helped by a 28 day period of abstinence from their drug of choice. Great food… and a high end country club atmosphere has nothing to do with treatment for a problem that will kill you if not taken seriously. Bill Wilson would be ashamed. Complete and utter hogwash!!

★☆☆☆☆
Wayne Zarnik2 years ago

Consider Highwatch Recovery at your own risk. There are NO email addresses on their website to contact people, but they have a button to leave a review on Google (presumably for compliments). That is pathetic. Anyone… effected by addiction knows its a family disease. The inability to communicate with staff or qualifiers denies that reality. Focus is one thing....myopic thought processes are another.

Sure, they are very expensive. But my time there was very fulfilling & worth it. I learned alot there & loved it, especially working with the horses & volleyball. Although, the people you meet there seem like great… friends who will go to meetings with you & be awesome afterwards.. No, not at all. It's like everything is out the window with fellow "friends" you'd think would be supportive afterwards. They have some very weird long term dudes who don't belong there like Travis & Mr. Cigar.

There are no doubt many great treatment centers in the world, but High Watch is unmatched for the caliber of its staff, its interdisciplinary treatment model combining great clinical care with AA, and its beautiful… grounds (and great food). When you need help, this is the place and these are the people you want to be there for you. I'm forever grateful they were for me.

Started uncontrollable drinking at 20 and lost the next 15 years of my life. After multiple hospital trips and 2 detox's- I was about to walk to the packy when my legs gave out and I fell down. That's when I decided I… had enough and my parents had High Watch's number on the counter. I called, said I needed help- and High Watch's staff took care of all the details. It was my first rehab and I was terrified and couldn't think straight for 3 weeks. When they recommend staying as long as you can- its strictly for your benefit. I found a private spot and took the second step. I went to the scheduled meetings, listened, took notes and stayed 4 months. I am confident that nearly 6 years later my desire to maintain sobriety has only been achieved by the tools High Watch gave me.

I wonder how much cheaper the cost of staying at High Watch detox ($5,000 a day to get your bp checked and get vistaril) and residency ($28,000 )would be if they didn't have such lavish, expensive, trips and parties.… Every photo here is of red carpet pics, off site fancy trips and parties, fancy dinners, company golf outings, ad Russell Brand ( who it looks like you may want to distance yourself from now ). My favorite is the pictures of the top brass having a good time at Disney's Grand Floridian...the most expensive resort at DW. You guys spare no expenses when it comes to parties, trips, nad BonJovi Tributes??? Show them the luxury that residents live in in upper steele. No palm trees or pools there..

After a week they ran my debit card for the 14k. Got declined.. duh. STATE POLICE CAME and took me away in an ambulance. If I knew any better I should have sued. They never asked for the money I owed ($600/day). The… food was good. Only 3% become sober. Good luck
