Overton Brook VAMC – Shreveport Detox and Rehab Services
Overton Brook VAMC – Shreveport runs detox, residential treatment, partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient. Withdrawal is managed under clinical observation before other treatment begins, which matters most in the first seventy-two hours for alcohol and benzodiazepines. Day programming is scheduled, with evenings spent at home.
Both conditions are treated in parallel, which is what the research supports. Approved medication is paired with counseling and regular review. It is reasonable to ask how progress is reviewed and by whom. Ask what happens if the recommended level of care is not available immediately.

Went there with a buddy who had been trying to get me to go for a while. I was impressed with how nice everyone was. Needless to say I got signed up at 71 years old
I'm a VA employee AND patient. I have private medical insurance and choose to go to the VAMC for my medical care. I wouldn't do that if it were as bad as people say. It is more bureaucratic and some of the employees… seem more apathetic than you'd find at a private hospital. But I also know that the leadership and majority of employees care a great deal for veterans. And the VA is especially equipped for military-related disabilities and conditions. You won't get that anywhere else.
This is a wonderful hospital, I want to thank all the nurses and doctors for all the love and care they give ❤️. My brother Jerry Wayne Walker had a choice to go back to Willis Knighton South and he choose to go to the… VA hospital because of the care he receives there. I absolutely agree because my grandfather passed away here after his knee surgery from an blood clot that stopped his heart, but he was under the best care and received everything to make him comfortable just like there doing for Jerry because there's nothing else the doctors can do for his already spreading lung cancer and it's shutting down his organs. He's 70 years young. Thank you for everything you tried to do for Jerry. God bless all of you.
My boyfriend goes here for all his medical needs. They've always treated him right. Everyone there is very friendly and helpful.
Very nice facility
Been going here for about 20 yrs or so. After finely learning my away around. I really do Love this hospital. Everyone that is working there from the top to the bottom are ALWAYS friendly, caring, and know their stuff.… I have been put in hospital rooms from over night to nearly one month. I have NO complaints at all. The only thing I gripe about is at shift change the come in and wake you up and draw new blood and take your vital's That Sux. And they really need good Wi-Fi and much better TV selection'S on channels to watch. I give this Hospital 10 stars.
Dental is great!
Very nice Staff and Employees in this Facility, only problem is due to COVID-related issues, don't expect to find much to eat!
I'm William Clark. I'd like to ask that someone please give a "kudos" or "well done" to the tech in the Audiology clinic who took such wonderful, compassionate care of me. I'm ashamed to say I can't remember her name.… This was by far the best VA experience I've ever had. She cleaned my ears, gave me a hearing test (which I can only assume I bombed}, and made a mold of my ear canals for my new hearing aids. She did all of this in the span of less than an hour. Simply incredible. More like this young lady, please! The new hearing aids are life changing. It was everything I could do to not leave the clinic balling my eyes out. BTW, Thursday August 20th was when I picked up my new hearing aids, at the Audiology clinec. Please extend one more thank you from me to the tech who so pleased me. Thank you so much.
My dad loves this place and makes me swear if he gets sick or something happens to him to take him here instead of our local hospital. They saved his life one time when he had a heart attack. He likes this place better… than the Dallas one and this one has a lot less traffic to get to. He also uses the Texarkana one so he doesn't have to drive so far but when doing any kind of procedure he prefers this place. Very friendly and kind staff.
Horrible care. Change appointments without notice , cannot get an answer to questions because they transfer you and no one answers the phone. Use them because I am forced to. Community care is a joke and has no clue… after they make 1st appointment and even doctors office complains about them.
A patient advocate named tobias assaulted me and my elderly mother here and then tried to have me arrested. He still follows us in the halls when we are there and mocks us. He changes my appointments and screw up my… recovery. He changed home health companies without telling us and im currently suing that company that injured me. I'm afraid to come to my appointments alone because i dont know what to expect. The man is nuts and anything will set him off. The administration doesn't care about vets. I'm looking for an attorney right now. Police officer had to protect us from patient advocate. I'm going to have his ass arrested as soon as I can The va removed my prior review and are trying to cover up crime. I will see you all in court. Had to have emergency surgery because va changed home health company after surgery on june 1st 2026 following my l5-s1 360 spinal surgery. 2 weeks after surgery physical therapist caused my incision to rip open and get infected because someone here tried to save money and hired a horrible home health company. Instead its cost the va over 200, 000 more and me a lot more pain and suffering and more money out of my disability check. . I have a wound vac on and im spending what little money I had left to attend numerous appointments because if it. I tried to get travel pay and patient advocate to help, but instead a supervisor from travel pay condescended to me and judged me without knowing whole story. For some reason someone makes sure my travel pay is in msnual review every time so i have to wait as long as posdible. The people in the office arent doing their jobs either. This hospital is horrible and no one listens whatsoever. I wont set foot here ever again, but it's still hell getting anything done through community care. I hope these people go through what i have went through and get treated the same way so they truly understand the hell they have put me through.
Always clean and safe, Thank You for your service Veterans.
I have been a patient at the VA in Shreveport since 1992. The hospital has undergone many changes since those days and every cha ge has led to a more streamlined and expedient process for each veteran to experience. The… doctors and nurses now show a sense of caring and concern for the patient and the wait times are not hours long; they are minutes long. I belive the staff at the VA is trying to become a premiere industry leader in Universal Healthcare for all.
Been going here for years and it's great.
**UPDATE: I am hopeful that I stay on the path as a hero with how things are going and you don't turn me into a villain. Over 17 months since my initial appt here with persistent chest pain and left arm pain...August… 2025 my kidneys showed themselves to be the cause after over 16 years of strange debilitating symptoms that the Army nor you believed or could figure out but you also didn't try very hard....I have had to call 988, called the VA white house hotline twice and then my congressman here in texas once to get you moving and serious about my health but the VAOIG is next and I have warned already, would you like me to start blasting you on social media and go to mainstream media with my story also, because I will? I shouldn't have had to do anything that I have done...I suffer everyday and I am tired so tired of repeating myself with this and every change thousands and thousands of times and begging and pleading with everyone I speak to...but here we are at community care and a new PCP that does not communicate through the secure messenger nor does he keep promises to give me a way to stay in contact with him....promises promises promises waiting for me to die or something so I will shut up my complaints....why is it that it has been so long since this started, first appt with new PCP was May 1st since after getting my congressman on it and I see movement but community care isn't working very fast either....I can talk to 5 different people about GI appts and colonoscopys but only 1 appt scheduler about my kidney issues from the consult on June 3rd then nothing?....whats the problem? Do you need me to start working again and come up there and help you people do your jobs? I can't really but I will and Ill fix it...its simple...it really is. Let me know and ill apply and throw away my TDIU to be selfless again to help others and myself....I mean...you cant do it so someone that can should come in and take all your jobs. Even though I can barely manage to get around, I stay in bed constantly due to this, and I have no quality of life at 46!!! LET ME KNOW! *OLD MESSAGE: They might not help you with your problems unless you are close to the end, geriatric or have something physically missing from your body. They might start pulling back care the moment they find out that you self-medicate or that you will not take their medications or even stop one of their meds for a week. I was completely honest with them and this is exactly what they did in my situation. If you want care you will have to lie....sad but true. To fill you in more I had a social worker called on me because I stopped taking a prescription of vitamin D3 that the doctor prescribed me the very first day I saw her....it was very random but I said sure Ill take it. When my heart starts going crazy I stop taking and doing everything until it stops....told her that and she didn't care....got home from the appointment from telling her that and the social worker calls me. The social worker didn't even know what the medication was until I told her. All that for D3. After all that there was blood work that was not done and then after heart tests came back clear there was a complete dismissal of anything to do with what I have been dealing with since 2009. They just didn't care and why I have been hesitant for a long time about going back....I was right though....should have never went back to the place. There was more but this is getting long. If you are in this area and read this with similarities in issues with your heart and are younger.....just go to Texarkana. It's not a hospital up there but maybe there are some people up there who care. Good luck.
Dr. doesn't listen, unable to speak to executive members, and many of the staff would rather talk about church than your health and medical condition.
I just got back from the VA Dental Clinic at Overton Brooks MC. This was an amazing day. Need to back up a step. My puppy dog chewed my top denture almost beyond recognition. On Tuesday I went to the dental clinic… without an appointment and asked/begged to be seen so that I could see if the denture could possibly be repaired. Dr Brasso and his team told me they would try and that the dental tech responsible for denture making is a superstar. Today I got the call to come in and see what she had done for me. I was blown away with what this superstar did My denture went from missing 6-7 teeth and a big chunk cracked off the side. My denture looks like brand new! Thank you Dr Brasso and the team for treating me so well and going the extra mile for me! Semper Fi! David Dahman. GYSGT USMC ret
My husband is a patient at the dental clinic. They do good work.
The women at the Womens Clinic are very very nice and professional. I felt heard and respected and am so happy to have transferred to this place. My medical provider is very caring, intelligent and approachable. I'm… grateful! (not using my real name on this review)
