Lofexidine (Lucemyra) Treatment

Approved specifically to ease opioid withdrawal symptoms for up to fourteen days, lofexidine, sold as Lucemyra, is not an opioid. It lowers the adrenaline surge behind sweating, cramping and agitation, without treating the underlying opioid use disorder itself, which is a separate piece of the plan.

It is usually a bridge into something longer, since withdrawal support alone does not carry someone far. Listings show which facilities stock it and what they offer afterwards, including buprenorphine, naltrexone or residential care. Compare the step that follows before choosing a detox program.

Why Trust RehabSeekers.com?

RehabSeekers is an independent behavioral health directory covering drug and alcohol addiction and mental health treatment providers.

Every listing has a source: an official register, a licensing record, or details the facility sent us.

Credentials shown honestly. Accreditation, licensing and registration listed separately.

Reviews shown exactly as written. Never edited, never removed because a facility asked.

No commission, no referral fees. Nothing a facility pays for changes where it appears.

Contact details always go direct. Calls reach the facility itself, never a call centre.

Common questions

Answered from what is listed here.

What is Lucemyra?

Lucemyra is the brand name for lofexidine, a non-opioid film-coated 0.18 mg tablet approved to ease the symptoms of opioid withdrawal in adults who stop opioids abruptly. It is an alpha-2 agonist, not a pain medicine, and is taken for a short course rather than long term.

Lofexidine had been marketed outside the United States since 1992 before the US approval, and DailyMed lists it under NDA 209229.

Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT)https://rehabseekers.com/medications/mat/
Is Lucemyra FDA approved?

Yes. The FDA approved Lucemyra on May 16, 2018 as the first non-opioid medicine for mitigation of withdrawal symptoms associated with abrupt discontinuation of opioids in adults. An advisory committee reviewed the application from US WorldMeds in March 2017 before that decision.

Development involved a grant from and collaboration with the National Institute on Drug Abuse.

Opioid Detox Programhttps://rehabseekers.com/programs/detox-centers/detox-by-substance/opioid-detox/
Is Lucemyra a treatment for opioid use disorder?

No. Lucemyra eases withdrawal symptoms but is not a treatment for opioid use disorder, and the manufacturer states that withdrawal management alone, with or without Lucemyra, is not recommended for someone with opioid use disorder. It is labeled for use inside a comprehensive management program.

A 2020 review describes it as a way to manage acute withdrawal before starting methadone or buprenorphine maintenance.

Lofexidine, sold as Lucemyra, is a non-opioid tablet taken for up to 14 days to ease the symptoms that come when an adult stops opioids abruptly. It is not an opioid, and it is not a treatment for opioid use disorder on its own.

That distinction shapes everything else. Lofexidine makes the days of acute withdrawal easier to sit through; what happens after those days is a separate decision about buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone or counseling. The manufacturer’s own patient information says the medication will not stop cravings for opioids and may lessen withdrawal symptoms without preventing them.

This page covers what lofexidine is approved for, how it is dosed and stopped, the blood pressure and heart rhythm cautions that drive monitoring, who prescribes and dispenses it, what a course costs, how plans handle prior authorization, and how to find a program that uses it.
