State Funded Rehab by Treatment Type

Funding source and level of care are two separate questions, and this page answers the second one. Public dollars pay for withdrawal management, residential beds, day treatment, outpatient groups, medication and recovery housing, though not every provider that takes public money offers all of them.

Use the groupings below to move straight to the level you need rather than reading through everything. Each grouping carries its own listings, and each listing shows accepted payment types alongside the services a provider reports. Start with the level of care, then compare providers within it.

Why Trust RehabSeekers.com?

RehabSeekers is an independent behavioral health directory covering drug and alcohol addiction and mental health treatment providers.

Every listing has a source: an official register, a licensing record, or details the facility sent us.

Credentials shown honestly. Accreditation, licensing and registration listed separately.

Reviews shown exactly as written. Never edited, never removed because a facility asked.

No commission, no referral fees. Nothing a facility pays for changes where it appears.

Contact details always go direct. Calls reach the facility itself, never a call centre.

Common questions

Answered from what is listed here.

What types of treatment does state funded rehab pay for?

State money commonly pays for withdrawal management, residential treatment, outpatient counseling and medication for opioid use disorder, though each state picks its own menu. Tennessee funds outpatient, intensive outpatient, partial hospitalization, low-intensity residential, residential rehabilitation, and social and medical withdrawal management. Texas funds withdrawal management, outpatient, residential and medication treatment.

Tennessee also pays for recovery support and peer support delivered by Certified Peer Recovery Specialists, so the funded menu reaches past formal treatment.

State Funded Rehabhttps://rehabseekers.com/payment/state-funded/
Does state funded rehab cover detox?

Yes, in states that choose to fund it. Texas pays for two kinds of adult withdrawal management, the current name for detox: ambulatory, where you travel to a licensed site each day, and residential, with 24-hour monitoring on site. Tennessee funds both social and medical withdrawal management.

Texas withdrawal management often includes medication for withdrawal symptoms, and staff help you choose the next step in care before discharge.

State Funded Detoxhttps://rehabseekers.com/payment/state-funded/treatment/state-funded-detox/
Is state funded detox the same as hospital detox?

No, usually not. Federal block grant rules bar states from spending that money on inpatient hospital services except in one limited case, so publicly funded withdrawal management is normally delivered in licensed community programs rather than hospitals. Tennessee separates social withdrawal management from medical withdrawal management staffed by medical and nursing professionals.

Where the block grant does pay a hospital under the exception, the daily rate cannot exceed the comparable rate for community-based nonhospital residential treatment.

State funding does not arrive as a single benefit. Each service a public system buys — a detox bed, a residential month, a weekly counseling slot, a daily dose of methadone — is contracted, priced and rationed on its own terms, and a state can fund one of them well while barely funding the next. This page sorts the public money by the type of treatment it buys.

That is what separates this page from the broader one it sits under. The parent page explains where the dollars originate; the question here is what each kind of care has to deliver before a state contract will pay for it, which settings federal rules shut out, and why the same grant covers a counseling hour easily and a hospital night almost never.

Below: the service menus states publish, how an assessment sorts a patient into one type rather than another, the spending bar on inpatient hospital care, the Medicaid medication rules sitting underneath the medication type, what each level bills on the open market, and how to ask for the type you believe you need.
