If Sharp Mesa Vista Hospital treated you or someone close to you, your account would help the next family deciding.
The nurses are nice, but very careful because I got hit in the face by security last time I tried to in for treatment. Huge guy like a big bear. I took out my drink to give to himand his big head paws took it I almost… passed out. I m still shook after two months. Went to Er filed report. No help. Be careful when. Going there. Security has a free pass Wanted to add more. If you are detoxing they will keep you suffering for hours maybe all night until the Dr calls your drugs. It is horrible to keep you in detox and not have you you get help until the Dr calls in. Go to er. You are not safe here. From expensive I been here a lot. Update 9/14/26 called to help had to very ride me m. Asked their names they hung up. I called back a few times asking they just said what is your reason for callingike it was a game. Idk why sharp meds vista allows this type of behaysorh p that are having medical and addiction emergencies. It's sad these guys get away treating ppl in need like this, I will be calling very serious agencies to deal with this misconduct of people in need. It's not funny and they kept hanging up on me like I was a joke. Horrific. Do better Sharp mesa vista. I will report to all the possible agencies that take care of this. Please don't feel alone. Report .
The most terrifying & unprofessional experience I’ve ever had. I needed help coming off fentanyl and made it clear that I couldn’t start the suboxone treatment because It stores in my body longer & also because they… gave me opioids daily but when their timeline came I was told I either take it or I would have to leave. I was terrified I needed their help. I asked the nurse to assure me I wouldn’t go into precipitated withdrawals because I was taking it too soon I was given every assurance. Needless to say, I went into a hideous withdrawal where I could not control my arms and some noises I would make wincing in pain and just being uncomfortable. I was then told that if I didn’t stop making noises and stop acting the way that I was acting from the medicine, they gave me that I would be locked in a room downstairs or physically removed and that’s what they did. They removed me from the facility and then all my paperwork lied and said that I left against a medical advice I have yet to decide what legal action if any I should take but beware if you’re struggling with fentanyl it probably isn’t a place for you. Also save your commentary of your so sorry Sharp Mesa Vista. You could have genuinely discussed this with me privately so please don’t do any of that fake remorse on here.
Thank you to the very few that looked out for me, there's some very bad nurses who work here.
The WORST psychiatric experience I have ever had. The staff is abominable with the exception of a few, the “MHA”’d ignore you or make fun of you and it’s so dehumanizing to be there and to even ask for basic human… necessities. Perfect example of a bunch of nurses and techs that should not be working in the field they do. They’d rather look at their phones than give you the time of day.
The hospital really works to provide the kind of care someone needs in a mental crisis. Staff are knowledgeable, plenty of activities and therapy to help the patient make progress.
I voluntarily admitted myself here for the Detox program from alcohol. I know that you as a person has to be just tired of it for it to stick. I left here free of alcohol dependency and now 3 years later, happy to have… chosen sobriety. Sobriety is hard work but so was being an alcoholic. Thank ya'll so much👏🫶
Update: So we've determined that patients in this facility are treated only by NPs under the guidance of a remote Psychiatrist who is not even located at this facility. If you expected to be treated by a Psychiatrist… while in this facility, you will be very disappointed. If you request to see a Psychiatrist, you have to write a formal letter that will be reviewed but will take several days to do so, during which time you will not be treated. How do you feel about that? If you go to this facility, just know that you will never see a Psychiatrist but only nurse practitioners. The physicals and 20 minutes you spend with an NP isn't enough to really accomplish anything. Go elsewhere for your own health. I would give ) stars if that was an option.
I was here twice. Once in 2023 (I was 15) and again in 2026 (I am 18). Most of the nurses are wonderful - but the doctors, psychiatrists, and therapists are all terrible. I was put on a very high dosage of Effexor when… I was admitted this last month, and my psychiatrist barely talked to me about it. I wasn't told about the horrible withdrawls. When I learned about this after I'd been on the medication for about a week, I tried to talk to a different psychiatrist about it and instead he just doubled my dosage. Does a good enough job when you're in crisis, but the staff (besides the nurses) are all terrible.
I’ve been inpatient 3 times and outpatient for months in both 2023 and 2025. I was a part of the ED program in early 2025 and it felt like a very safe and tight knit group. I appreciate the high level of support I was… getting.
The staff here is friendly and caring. The doctors however are the laziest and most apethetic I have ever experienced in my life. They conferred with me about my son in passing and ordered a medication regimine that… clearly shows they didn’t even look at his file. I requested to change doctors and was refused because the other doctor agreed with the first. I am experiencing a serious health and safety issue and clearly no good was done here and when my son was placed on another 5150 5 days later they refused to accept him. Too much to ask that they actually work for the their overinflated paychecks
I went there due to an attempted OD, and it lowkey sucked being there. There were some cool nurses (shout out to the nurses). But the doctor lowkey sucked. I got prescribed antidepressants for the first time, because my… family was super anti-drugs used for mental illnesses, and I started at 50mg and within a day or two was switched with 100mg of the standard Zoloft (which you’re not supposed to do so fast, because it messes up your brain so badly). I had to deal with a horrible list of repercussions as a teenager. Plus we had some supervisors like Stephanie and Mason that sucked so badly + were super insensitive.. I mean why work with kids if you hate them? 😂 It’s not like we forced you to work here, so what’s with that insane attitude? Plus if you don’t have any roommates, you have no form of entertainment except their bad selection of books that’s for elementary schoolers. You are stuck in a room for most of the time, and our outside time was cancelled A LOT. (We got less outside time than the average prisoner. I mean what the hell!?). There’s a serious power imbalance in there and the staff abuse it!! But yeah, other than your bad selection of books and the daytime room, there’s basically nothing to do. It was driving me more insane than when I arrived!! I understand there was strict rules set in order to stabilize us, but we are barely allowed to talk to each other. Got screamed at for LITERALLY everything!! Please do not send your kid here, even if the psychologist sends them here from the ER. One thing i’ll give them props to is the woman who did the outside time was really sweet! She did mainly the relaxation activities and coloring activities.
I fortunately haven't gone inpatient since I was 5 months post partum and the death of my mother in the same two month period in 2016. There were several years while I lived in San Diego, where I was at Mesa Vista… almost monthly. I live in Pennsylvania now, and my mental health is really going down here. I'm considering flying to San Diego for inpatient care. I'm trying to hold on until after the holidays.. I'm just barely holding it together so my husband who works in the airline industry doesn't get fired for needing to take off during the worst time of the year (the holidays) to care for our young children. I really hope I can for the sake of my family. I would never go inpatient out here! Sharp Mesa Vista is bar none the BEST inpatient psychiatric hospital I've been in and I'm 51, first hospitalized at age 13! That's a LONG time to have experienced. I'm sure half of the nurses have retired. And probably no hospital allows vaping..but if I have to go through nicotine withdrawal for my mental health, I will. I really am not understanding why all psychiatric hospitals are on this no vaping/cigarette kick..we have enough going on! This isn't towards this hospital..but it is about the system. It's really just to have this appearance of health...when it's really more of being control freaks and that's a shame. I'm sure there's a lot of people who just won't even consider help for this one reason. I think it's ridiculous. It's not prison, the mentally ill are not criminals (usually)!
Mental health ward is filled with incompassionate workers. No counselors. AND they disclose personal information to family members without your permission. Choose another hospital.
Didn't actually help in the long term but I'm still here I guess.
They really treated my friend well.
For me, the Sharp Mesa Vista campus is a place of enrichment, tranquility, healing, and growth. It is a place where patients make lifelong friends and develop lifelong skills. On the campus, there's a small but vibrant… garden with a waterfall, a pond, turtles, fish, frogs, birds, and vegetation. It's easy to lose yourself and your troubles in this slice of nature. The whole Sharp experience reawakens the senses. For lunch, patients can enjoy fresh fruits & veggies, including blueberries. The foods served there are rich nutrients and flavor. Everyone who works at Sharp — from the doctors and therapists to the drivers and other personale — is dedicated to making patients get better; everyone who works there is competent, experienced, skilled, and caring. Each staff member plays an important role — no matter how small — in helping patients get better. Some of the staff I know have been there helping patients for decades. There are even recreation specialists at Sharp to help you maximize your enjoyment. I do know people whose insurance policies either do not cover Sharp visits or restrict the number of visits. This is an unfortunate insurance issue — an issue I hope gets resolved.
This place saved my life. Do the work and you’ll succeed.
In basic care unit YOUR door slamming all night because Ankle bracelet scans every 15 minutes! 24/7!!!!! No exaggeration. Some good nurses in there you see them one shift a week and never again in that week. Room colder… than heck! One "grandma blanket. Food was a joke. My doctor "loved"me until is was time to clock me out. She looked so adversarial that is was scary. Tryvro push ECT like used car salesman.
I hate this place so much and it’s making my mental health worse. MULTIPLE nurses are rude and make snarky comments. You people know you are working with sensitive patients dealing with severe issues, so you should… treat them with extra kindness. The workers aren’t the only issue. The bathroom is genuinely FILTHY. There is mold and build up collecting in my showers handicap bar. The food is genuinely inedible. It’s junk. Over salted junk. I depend on my family members bringing me food. It’s not normal for 5150 holds (2 day holds) to be extended to 5250 (14 day holds) involuntarily and I feel it’s extremely unethical. I’m sure it’s because I have great insurance and this privately owned hospital LOVES A CHECK. DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONES HERE.
All employees here at SMV do a great job to make sure..you walk out feeling better..and with a plan to have a brighter future!
Ive been to Sharp Mesa Vista several times for treatment. They turned my life around and provided top notch care. It is a comfortable friendly environment and the staff and nurses are wonderful!!
I was here for 2 months when i was 13 in 1980. The staff was great! Only good memories! Glad to see this place is still helping!
Someone said they accept medi-cal. As of july 2025 when i contacted them this is no longer correct. They are not contracted.
Ok. So I've been to Mesa Vista st least 5 times which obviously means I've always had a great experience there and felt like I was helped. Their ECT team is awesome there and I felt safe and in good hands the social… worker Kenneth Higgins , was is also awesome and deserves praise for his hard work and genuine spirit. There are also a number of great staff members and technicians that work on their team. However; I was very sad with this new Dr dr mazzuda they brought on. She is completely arrogant and full of herself and does not listen to the patien.....😔 And I'm not even angry about it, its honestly is just sad that they brought on a couple of really nasty people to such a great place!
I hate to be the barer of bad news, (and people who say that in movies always have bad news) but this hospital is like an asylum. The staff suddenly barge in your room when you're just hanging out and corner you and… hold you down and give you an injection when you were having a good day. You don't even have to yell, you can just relax in your room for 30 minutes and a bunch of angry people barge in and hold you down and do an injection on you. More often than that though you just have an ordinary conversation with someone and go in your room to do some writing and then they barge in and inject you. Out of the times they barge in and inject you, it's rare that you will actually throw something beforehand. And of course I haven't ever attacked anyone so that is out of the question.
This hospital is so professional. I stayed seven (7) days and the care was superior! The staff was so helpful and the organization was superb. I had all my serious symptoms addressed with my doctor and staff. The nurses… and doctors and psychologists were excellent and always worked as a team. Food was great, and the groups were interesting. My stay was superior! Thank you all for the best care I have ever experienced.
