The staff is very welcoming. Chandra really helped and listened to my input.
Taylor was everything I didn’t know I needed in life. Thank you Taylor for helping me get out of my own way. Helping me deal with things I didn’t know I was struggling with. I’m not really a group person. She made it… easy to talk in group. I truly appreciate all the time she put into me. Especially my uncomfortable days. She help me in more ways then I can put in text. Thank you so much Taylor you are great at what you do.
Miss Lisa Campbell is absolutely amazing! Couldn’t recommend her more. Thank you so much to her and to the brook hospital
If you need inpatient mental health services and can *at all* afford it please look elsewhere. I've heard pretty good things about the outpatient substance abuse program here but the mental health inpatient side of… things is geared towards substance use and mental health is brushed aside entirely. This is not in any way a mental health rehabilitation facility. It is for detox and substance use rehab. One of the biggest travesties in modern medicine is conflating all mental health issues with substance use issues and it shows in the lack of care here. The staff here simply are not equipped or capable to care for the mentally ill.
My experience with this staff was beyond amazing and I would recommend any and everyone who need this type of help, it number 1 in the nation‼️
If I could give this hospital zero stars I would. I went there voluntarily because i was hopeful that I could talk to someone about my family problems and personal journey through recovery. During treatment at the… Morton Center some years ago, my therapist Catherine Phillips explained to me that she would be transferring my patient files to The Brook after I pissed positive for Methamphetamine past the number of acceptable times and that I would no longer be allowed to be a patient of hers. I was not happy and told her that I would not be continuing my treatment at The Brook and that I understood why she was doing this. I was happy with the progress that she and I had made in my recovery, and I was very disappointed that our relationship had to end simply because I was honest about the fact that I was not going to stop using Meth. We parted ways tearfully via a video session on a laptop due to COVID. Fast forward to my recent visit to this hospital, if you want to call it one. It was filthy and not one time was there any custodial staff to be seen in my unit. Nothing got wiped down nor did the floor get swept or mopped. The windows were caked over with grime and the floor was disgusting. When I checked in at arrival, I was put with an associate to do the intake paperwork and she seemed to care when she asked me questions regarding why I had chosen to seek treatment there. She left the door open while doing this intake which I closed in her presence. After it was all signed, she disappeared for about an hour which made me very regretful that I had come here at all. I then told another associate that I wasn't going to move forward with being a patient by which time it was too late. I was ushered through the security doors and placed into the "AWOL unit" with patients who seemed unmoored from reality. I pressed further and was told that there was a 72-hour involuntary hold on me and that I didn't have the option to leave. I argued my point that I came there voluntarily to no avail. To be clear, I told them that I feared for my life and to please call the police. I then picked up the phone in the unit and called 911 and spoke to someone who must have been a doppelganger of an emergency responder. She placed me in touch with whom I thought were police who asked me my location and after hanging up I never heard or saw a police officer at all. After asking a nurse to please call the police for me, I was told that they (police) had called back and that I was to never try to contact them again. I refused treatment and stayed to myself unable to leave the property until the staff decided to allow me too. When I sat down with a social worker, my binder file showed that I came in under "psychosis" and that narcotics were in my personal property which was not true. It was terrifying. I asked for it to be removed. My experience was horrifying and something that I hope never happens to anyone in the country again. The T-shirt that the staff wears says that "At The Brook-mental health is our priority". You sure wouldn't know it by my experience.
Dameca dialed into a very dark and sad part of my life that no therapist has ever done. She helped me deal with the ugly in my life, taught me how to cope and deal with it, and taught me that I am important and worthy… of love and a good life.
The Brook has always been so good to me, and I’m incredibly grateful for my experience there! Chandra was absolutely phenomenal. She has such a special way of making you feel welcomed, comfortable, and genuinely cared… for. You can tell that she truly cares about her people and the work she does. I also had such an amazing experience with Brenna, Janice, and Ms. Tene. They are truly some of the sweetest, most genuine human beings I’ve ever met. Being in group with them meant more to me than they probably even realize. I’ll forever be grateful for the support, kindness, laughs, and memories we shared. The Brook and the people I met there will always hold a special place in my heart! ❤️
Taylor Simpson is a really great therapist and helped a lot. The environment always felt safe and respectful. The group sessions help a lot with lowering the weight of the world. I personally felt like the particular… meditations we practiced were a really good fit for me. I was able to practice coping skills I hadn’t used much before and feel like I’m well prepared for whatever is thrown at me. Chandra was also a very good therapist and I strongly believe they can help anybody. Thank you for this program and I hope Taylor gets the recognition she deserves. I will definitely miss group.
I was recently discharged from the brook- Dupont location … My experience was amazing. I was very nervous about doing group therapy for the first time but I have no regrets. My therapist there, Taylor, was amazing as… well. If I could keep her for an individual therapist, I would. I’m sad to leave the program, but excited to start my new journey with the skills that the brook taught me.
Chandra was awesome and very professional.
Thank you for always keeping the group entertaining and for keeping me in check. I appreciate everything you've done for me and the motivation that you continued to implement in my life while in the group meetings. You… are a very loving, compassionate person ❤️ I am glad to say that you are my favorite therapist!
They are really great! Even though I did my outpatient classes online I still felt valued and heard! Shoutout to Ms. Janice for being an amazing therapist!
This place was great to go to get help. Some staff were rude. But the other staffs made it better where they didn’t even matter. And Dr. Spears listened to me and all. I was in the grace united it was amazing but I wish… we had more things todo. I’m not sure why our bedroom doors had to be shut; we are adults. Sometimes the therapy groups teacher wouldn’t come. Some days we just stared off not much todo. But it was a great experience for it being my first time at the brook!
Very supportive group of doctors and floor techs especially the staff in unit 300 especially ej and conny and James ! Thank you for all the support
Dirty and no paper towels in the bathrooms. Very stressful environment and isolating.
Chandra is an amazing therapist! She provides thoughtful advice, valuable insight, and creates a fun, engaging atmosphere during group sessions. I always look forward to her groups.
Best thing I could have ever done for myself! I was in a very dark place and the group sessions here really brought me back to where I needed to be. Educational and emotional, a wonderful community. Ms Janice Means… White was the best therapist I could have asked for - thank you!!
I had a great experience with The Brook. I loved all of the therapists and connections I made to others. We had great conversations daily and I feel a lot more prepared to face stressors now. I really enjoyed my… therapist Lisa Campbell! She’s so easy to talk to and made our class of tears fun everyday.
Chandra is the best she has really helped me with everything I've had going on.. she gave me helpful resources and everything I need to push myself forward once I feel anything is off balance.. Thankyou again Ms… Chandra..
N̈urses and techs were patient and nice
If you guys are going through a difficult time this place is magical! I felt very safe and my group leader Lisa Campbell was amazing. Being in a group structure, helps you to get a lot of perspective on your own… problems and to get great ideas from other people who are suffering the same things you are. I feel so much hope going forward and they give you so many tools to learn how to deal with every different situation. Whether it be anxiety or depression they help you to figure out a way to get through it and to thrive in your life!! Recommend!!!
Christopher was awesome is I loved his group
I honestly wasn't sure I'd get anything out of this program. But talking to Taylor and my group helped a lot.
I had group therapy with Julia and it was truly a wonderful experience. They were very receptive, very understanding, and very willing to do what ever they could to make me feel heard and help me find solutions for the… issues I was dealing with. Even in a group setting I felt very seen and was able to develop a good relationship with them in order to feel comfortable enough to open up. This group has been like a nice little island vacation I’ve been on for a few weeks and I am sad to leave, but I’m feeling hopeful and ready to face my next life challenges head on and confident. Thank you, Julia!!
