About Bert Nash Comm Mental Health Ctr – Lawrence

Bert Nash Comm Mental Health Ctr operates from 200 Maine Street in Lawrence. The site sits in Douglas County, which shapes which public funding routes apply. Nearby communities include Oskaloosa, Ottawa and Winchester. Kansas draws people across long distances for treatment, so travel time is worth weighing against waiting time.

Detox, residential treatment, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient and outpatient care are delivered here, alongside medication-assisted treatment, telehealth appointments and care for co-occurring mental health conditions. Which level fits depends on the assessment rather than on what is available, so the useful first question is what that assessment involves.

Detox and Rehab Services at Bert Nash Comm Mental Health Ctr

Withdrawal management covers alcohol, benzodiazepine, cocaine, methamphetamine and opioid dependence and is handled on site rather than referred elsewhere. Someone starting in detox can move into residential care without changing provider or repeating an intake. Ask what the assessment involves before you commit.

Buprenorphine and naltrexone are available and paired with counseling rather than prescribed alone. Trauma-specific services run alongside, which matters where the two are tangled together. Co-occurring mental health conditions are treated in the same building rather than split across providers.

It took a lot of encouragement for my kid to feel ready for counseling. While the other staff were helpful, our interaction with one therapist felt cold and dismissive to me. I respect professional boundaries, but they… should be explained with patience and kindness. I left feeling discouraged when I had hoped for understanding. A young person’s willingness to seek help deserves compassion and care.

They are fine, my only big complaint being it is next to impossible to schedule appointments. Every time i need a follow up in order to get refills on my medication, it takes MULTIPLE calls, voicemails, and a constant… effort for them to just not respond. every time i need a refill, i have to call 3-5 times and leave multiple voicemails. I do not ever get a response, just have to be lucky that someone answers the phone of the times i call. makes it extremely difficult to obtain my medication, and often have to go without medication for multiple days.

The only problem that I have with Burtnash is they don’t have enough therapists. They let a lot go because of cutbacks. This really hurt there quality of staff. I have a top notch therapist, this person has been here for… me no matter.

The direction they’re heading expanding access,… meeting people where they are, and supporting mental health goals is incredible. It’s clear that the genuine care and dedication of this nonprofit does a remarkable job creating a sense of belonging and connection for anyone who walks through their doors! Regardless of if you’re a client, donor, employee, tour attendee or simply choosing to visit! There’s nothing else like Bert Nash in our area. This time around I have had no issues with feeling like I'm being judged for being gay like I was was last time. The only complaint I have is that it took so long to get my ADHD testing referral scheduled but things… happens and those kind of appointments have to be schedule in revalence to serverity and time of referral and who is available.

I am a private practice therapist in Lawrence, KS. I have recently experienced referring humans to the Treatment and Recovery Center of Douglas County and also the Bert Nash Intensive Outpatient Program. My clients… report being treated with a high level of dignity and respect. The team members at Bert Nash were really helpful in support both me as the provider, my client and their families.

My individual therapist was wonderful, and I truly felt I made great progress while working with her. However, after reaching the maximum number of covered sessions, I unexpectedly received a bill for more than a year’s… worth of services. At no point during treatment was I told that I owed anything, and this only came to my attention once I was no longer a patient. Since then, I’ve tried multiple times to contact Bert Nash to discuss the matter, but no one answers the phone, and my voicemails and emails go unanswered. This situation has been extremely frustrating. In the past, my group therapist was suddenly let go just before a scheduled meeting. I only found out via email, was never provided any further explanation, and the group was never re-established. Although I was initially upset, I moved on since no other problems had occurred. Unfortunately, I am now dealing with significant billing and communication issues long after ending my care. The lack of transparency and responsiveness is unacceptable.

They lay off my case manager who does exemplary work and then replace him with someone who can't even take me to a doctors appointment leaving me to either uber or rely on someone on the transitions team. I cannot… recommend anyone seek services here and I will be surprised if they are still open by years end if this is the type of service they consider acceptable while laying off people who do excellent work. My time with psychiatrists and therapists are fine but the case management team is a dumpster fire. lay off people and then get surprised when their remaining case managers are too overworked to deal with everyone from their former coworker's case load. I will most likely be looking into withdrawing from case management services and switching my therapy and medications over to Heartland.
