Rehabs That Take First Health

First Health is a provider network rather than an insurance company, part of Aetna, and it does not pay claims. Employers and smaller insurers rent access to it, which is why a First Health logo turns up on cards issued by organizations you may not recognize as insurers.

For addiction treatment that means First Health tells you only which facilities have agreed discounted rates, while the plan named alongside it decides what is actually covered, what needs authorizing and what share of the bill falls to you. You will generally need both answers.

Why Trust RehabSeekers.com?

RehabSeekers is an independent behavioral health directory covering drug and alcohol addiction and mental health treatment providers.

Every listing has a source: an official register, a licensing record, or details the facility sent us.

Credentials shown honestly. Accreditation, licensing and registration listed separately.

Reviews shown exactly as written. Never edited, never removed because a facility asked.

No commission, no referral fees. Nothing a facility pays for changes where it appears.

Contact details always go direct. Calls reach the facility itself, never a call centre.

Common questions

Answered from what is listed here.

What is First Health Network?

First Health is a national PPO provider network, not an insurance company. First Health Group Corp. is an indirect, wholly owned subsidiary of Aetna Inc., which belongs to CVS Health. Plans rent access to the network so their members get contracted rates from participating doctors, hospitals and facilities.

Customers include third-party administrators, insurance carriers, health plans, employer groups and federal benefit plans, according to the network's own description of its business.

Private Insurance Acceptedhttps://rehabseekers.com/insurance-accepted/private-insurance-accepted/
Is First Health an insurance company?

No. First Health sells no policies and pays no claims. Covered benefits, deductibles, copays, coinsurance and treatment limits all come from the insurance plan, employer plan or administrator named on the member ID card. The network only sets which providers have agreed to discounted contracted rates.

Two answers are usually needed before treatment: whether the facility participates in First Health, and what the plan on the card actually covers.

Private Insurance Acceptedhttps://rehabseekers.com/insurance-accepted/private-insurance-accepted/
Does First Health cover rehab?

No, First Health itself covers nothing, because the network pays no claims. Whether addiction treatment is covered, and at which levels of care, is decided by the insurer, third-party administrator or employer plan that rents the network and issues the member ID card.

Where that plan does cover treatment, using a facility participating in First Health means contracted rates and usually lower out-of-pocket cost than a non-participating center.

What First Health Is

First Health operates a national provider network that other organizations use rather than building their own. It is owned by Aetna, and it appears most often on cards issued by self-funded employer plans, third-party administrators and smaller regional carriers.

If your card carries a First Health logo alongside another name, the other name is who pays your claims. The First Health mark tells you which providers have contracted rates available to your plan.

Two Separate Questions

Is this facility in the First Health network is a question about price. Is this treatment covered, authorized and at what cost share is a question for whoever administers your plan. A program that says it takes First Health has answered only the first, and people admit on the strength of it every day.

Does It Cover Rehab?

The coverage belongs to the plan behind the network. Most plans using First Health are employer plans subject to federal parity law, which requires substance use benefits to sit on equal terms with medical ones. In practice detox, residential treatment, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient and outpatient care are covered, subject to that plan’s own terms.
