Risperidone Rehab That Takes Medicaid

Antipsychotic prescribing usually signals that a program has psychiatric staff rather than counseling alone, which matters when a serious mental illness sits alongside a drug or alcohol problem. Facilities listed record risperidone among their medications and accept Medicaid for the treatment they say they provide.

State plans differ in which antipsychotics sit on the preferred drug list and which need prior authorization, and managed care organizations add their own rules. Ask a program which state plans it bills and whether it handles authorizations for you. Compare listings before calling.

Why Trust RehabSeekers.com?

RehabSeekers is an independent behavioral health directory covering drug and alcohol addiction and mental health treatment providers.

Every listing has a source: an official register, a licensing record, or details the facility sent us.

Credentials shown honestly. Accreditation, licensing and registration listed separately.

Reviews shown exactly as written. Never edited, never removed because a facility asked.

No commission, no referral fees. Nothing a facility pays for changes where it appears.

Contact details always go direct. Calls reach the facility itself, never a call centre.

Common questions

Answered from what is listed here.

Does Medicaid cover risperidone?

Yes. State Medicaid pharmacy programs list risperidone tablets, orally disintegrating tablets and oral solution, commonly as preferred drugs with quantity limits. A UnitedHealthcare Rhode Island Medicaid list, for example, shows tablets and dissolving tablets as Tier 1 with a quantity limit, and the oral solution as Tier 1 with prior authorization for members 8 and older.

Preferred status, limits and authorization rules are set state by state and by each managed care plan, so the exact terms depend on which plan covers you.

Risperidonehttps://rehabseekers.com/medications/psychiatric-medication/second-generation-antipsychotics/risperidone/
Is there a Medicaid copay for risperidone?

Little or nothing. Under Medicaid cost-sharing rules, a member at or below 150% of the federal poverty level is charged only nominal copayments on prescription drugs. The federal table of base fiscal year 2013 maximums lists $4.00 for a preferred drug and $8.00 for a non-preferred drug at that income level.

States set their own amounts within those federal limits, and some exempt children, pregnant members and certain other groups from drug copayments entirely.

Medicaid Rehabhttps://rehabseekers.com/insurance-accepted/medicaid/
Do I need prior authorization for long-acting risperidone on Medicaid?

Often yes for the injections, though not always. A Centene-affiliated Illinois Medicaid policy reviewed in January 2026 says prior authorization for risperidone long-acting injections is not required when the member changed providers, including inpatient to outpatient, changed insurance, or already holds an approval and only the dose or frequency changes.

Colorado Medicaid, effective January 14, 2022, also requires no place-of-service prior authorization for long-acting injectable antipsychotics including Perseris, Risperdal Consta and Uzedy.

Risperidone is a prescription antipsychotic, sold under the brand name Risperdal, taken as a tablet, an orally disintegrating tablet, a liquid, or a long-acting injection given by a clinician. This page is about one question: how state Medicaid handles that medication for someone in treatment for a substance use problem alongside a psychiatric diagnosis.

There is no single national Medicaid rule for risperidone. Federal law sets drug use review requirements and parity obligations, and each state then writes its own preferred drug list, quantity limits and prior authorization criteria, with managed care plans adding a further layer. Two members in different states, on the same dose, can face entirely different paperwork.

What follows covers what risperidone is and who it is prescribed for, how the oral forms and the injections are dispensed, how long an authorization usually runs, what a member actually pays, how the state criteria work in practice using Illinois, Rhode Island, Colorado and New York as examples, and how to find a treatment program that bills your Medicaid plan and can keep the prescription going.
