I was admitted to the adolescent ward about a little bit ago and I cannot say enough how wonderful my experience was. Sure, it got a little boring in the day rooms at times but the techs, nurses, and other staff, night… and day, were absolute angels. No matter if I had a small problem or I was going through a total episode, they were always there to help me. As for the night staff, it depends on who's working that night, but most of them are amazing as well. I'm not going to name drop but I hope they know who they are.♡♡ Besides the required questions they asked me, they also checked up on me to see if I was doing alright which meant so much, and they genuinely cared about us patients and didn't just see us as crazy, but as actual people unlike some psych wards I've been to. I only stayed for about a week or so because it's short term, but if I had to go to a mental hospital again, which hopefully I don't, it would be this one. Thank you so much for making my experience awesome even when I was in one of the darkest times of my life. The environment felt safe and I felt comforted when I was there. Your staff are truly amazing people, and I wish them the best.💝💝
I liked Keeli. Everyone else needed to stay there.
Drs were wonderful when they spoke to you and therapist. I was there for my reason and diagnosed after 17 yrs correctly finally. Moments of staff problems but if you put a note in box they fixed it privately. My special… food the higher ups did it, when the next day a staff did not make it happen they were corrected. Nurses were so easy to talk to and understanding. 5 stars to them with my stay 10 different people and figuring all us out without knowing our history to me was worth it. To walk out the door nothing like I walked in who cares if a tech or two was not set for my group and was removed. I'm here and home cause of there care. They have me set on a after program and I can see light now to actual help. I would take anyone to this place for help if they hit were I hit in a second. Thank you, this line of work is not for the faint of heart. So tuff love and kindness was mixed but I feel they did great not knowing us. The weekend was hard less staff less Drs that was the hard part and it could be negative but today I see that as life. They were there but like most places people work more Monday-Frid so I got help but deeper help in the week. They could not call my personal Drs till week days to verify there own questions. So no I want say anything negative about this place cause they to had to work around outside life to help me. Thank yall for being there or I would not be here to leave this review.
My experience with St. Simons by the Sea Behavioral Health was deeply concerning, and as both a mother and a physician, I would never voluntarily send my child there again. Throughout my daughter’s hospitalization,… communication was extraordinarily poor. Neither psychiatrist contacted me directly to explain her diagnosis or treatment plan. I repeatedly called seeking basic information about my child’s care and was frequently unable to get meaningful answers. I ultimately had to obtain her diagnosis from a housing resident. When I was finally able to speak with Dr. Dawson, I found the interaction extremely rude and dismissive. I was told that another physician had already contacted me, which was not consistent with my experience. Even more concerning, I believe my daughter’s protected health information was disclosed to an individual who was not authorized by me to receive it. I had specifically raised concerns about who should and should not receive information regarding my daughter. I am now reviewing the circumstances surrounding those disclosures and whether they complied with HIPAA and other applicable requirements. I also attempted to have my daughter evaluated for transfer to another treatment facility. I was told that the necessary release of information could not even be submitted without her father’s consent. At the same time, I had serious concerns that the facility was communicating with and relying upon individuals who were not legal parents, while failing to appropriately follow the custody documentation that governed medical decision-making. One of the most disturbing aspects of the experience was feeling that there was little effort to facilitate communication between my daughter and the parent who recognized that she was in crisis and sought emergency treatment for her. Parents placing a child in an inpatient behavioral-health facility are already experiencing one of the most frightening moments imaginable. They should not have to repeatedly chase physicians for diagnoses, treatment information, discharge planning, or answers about who is being permitted access to their child’s medical information. I am a doctor myself, and the level of communication and handling of this situation fell far below what I would consider acceptable professional care. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this facility. I am also reviewing my options for filing formal complaints with the appropriate regulatory and licensing authorities regarding the privacy, communication, and treatment issues that occurred during my daughter’s admission.
My family member was well cared for and reported that the staff was very caring and compassionate
They were compassionate and helped me get back to myself I would recommend to any the suffering from mental health or need help detoxing from alcohol or any drug abuse
The perfect place to go for help Scary at first (not gonna lie) Everyone including current patients and staff are very supportive It is a safe place to get your life back in order They even have aftercare (out patients)… to continue to build back your self confidence and help you work on your problems For some reason they are currently rated 3.0 (NOT TRUE) They have rules that seem funny but they are for safety for everyone Bring warm clothes if you get cold easily Bring a book you might be interested in or puzzle books (soft cover) If you smoke they provide patches and gum Write down phone numbers if you want to call someone Be polite to everyone. Treat them how you want to be treated You will get through the program!!! And feel much better
Absolutely garbage facility with horrible staff outside of the nursing staff. The front desk person should be fired. May she have the kind of day she deserves.
Worst place ever need to be looked into someone tell me who I can contact to get this place checked on. They do what they want don’t follow instructions and the communication with the parents are none…. I do not… recommend for no one!!!
I was admitted to the adolescent ward a few weeks ago after an attempt. In all honesty, I couldn't say it was that bad for me. But it does depend on the person. There's a handful of staff that seemed to actually care… for the children here including Miss. Brie, Mr. Nate, and one of the other nurses. But there is also a hefty ton that really seemed to antagonize the children here. There was a patient close to my age that would have episodes and me and my friend overheard the staff Miss. Hillary and Miss. Veronica making fun of said patient. My friend here also had a bad experience with the main doctor, Dr. Dawson. My friend said that Dawson told her that she was in this facility just for attention. It seems that multiple other groups of children have had issues with this doctor. I also ended up convincing all the patients I was staying with to file multiple complaints against the night staff since they were so loud most of us couldn't sleep. They quieted down after that. Either way, I think that that majority of staff here do actually want to help. I was always being checked up on personally outside of the normal questionnaires, which I am thankful for. The amount privacy was also unexpected and (as a past SA victim) I was thankful. My biggest fear while arriving was being restrained and someone forcing themselves on me because of my past trauma, but that obviously never happened. I wasn't watched in the shower like a lot a places enforce, though obviously the staff checked up on me regularly, just without forcing their way through boundries. They would call from behind the curtains and only poke their head in briefly once I gave permission/I was covered up. Me and the other patients were also provided a steady array of hygiene and there weren't time limits on getting ready. It was nice being able to go at my own pace in the mornings while being in such unfamiliar territory. I do wish however that patients were provided more to do since phones are taken upon admisson. We did have fun and productive times scheduled in the day but unfortunately it always seemed to end too soon, so most of the patients would sleep their day away outside of meal times. Especially since we spent most if not all of our day in the 'dayroom' without access to blankets or comfort aside from pulling our scrub shirts over our knees and curling up in the fabric for warmth. At the end of the day however, I met some amazing people that I still have brief contact with. I still think about the kind lady that would dole out meds and joke around with us. I wouldn't want to come back to a hospital, but if I absolutely had to I would choose this one. Most mental health facilities are extremely underfunded, but being treated like a human instead of just another nutcase made me just a little sad to leave.
Great place for your mental health!! But my phone was misplaced at checkout the housekeeping was horrible they didn’t clean at all like they was supposed to!!! The patients was cleaning the unit and on top of that a… lady had 4 seizures within 24hours and nurses didn’t move like they was supposed to !!
Horrible. Left worse than I came in. Was not able to get into my room second day of detox by male nurse. Left me crying in the hallway for 30 minutes. Sean was his name. Male nurse. Absolutely horrible.
Honestly some really great nurses who try. But one Alisha who gave my daughter medicine without authorization because she from adult unit wasn’t okay but she was willing to file an incident report she said and… apologized. No incident report had been made. Therapist- Dr. Eric, was not confident in his information or knew much of anything and spoke too soft as if a kid right out of schooling. I’m sorry I take my daughter’s mental health seriously. This place honestly the worst I have ever dealt with. They also drugged up my daughter and kept her nearly for 3 weeks. Dr. Dawson, you could never get a hold of or nurse Jennifer would say she will call you back and then ignore all your attempts to get answers.
Staff was very friendly and alert to my needs and treated me with kindness
The staff and patients were so friendly and supportive. I received the tools and encouragement I needed to get on with life. I needed to be there and glad it worked out that way.
First of all there is no words in the English language that could ever describe how much I love you guys. From the bottom of my heart thank you for fixing me. Jackie B ( go vikings) Angela Dawson Kiara Malory Brian Leon… Amanda Genesis Kelly KENZI CEO Marie Jasper all the kitchen crew all the cleaning crew . TE AMO. Con todo mi corazon . Everywhere up to me I will spend eternity with you guys.
Everyone here did so much for me. From the doctors to the techs I'm so very thankful! If you ever need help, don't be afraid to come here. They WILL take care of you!
I was there for a bit for cutting and the people who are working there changed my life for the better i quite cutting when I was there and haven't cut myself since I don't remember when I was there but it was a couple… of years ago now but I remember them, I also just want to say thank you to all of them 5 star my legend name is Mitchell Jim byrd jr just in case you do remember me from when I was there I appreciate y'all help then.
My son went in dr called once about medication never called back or returned calls. Just released him one week later because he answered their suicidal questions correctly. He went with other problems. Again discharge… is done just like when you get discharged from hospital so when they tell you that you will meet with a team you dont
While the care for my daughter was great by the staff, she was stolen from. Someone at the facility has either "misplaced" it or decided they needed a new bra. Normally I wouldn't put such things out there however I… have filed all necessary paperwork before leaving and was told they would review camera footage to find it and either find it or reimburse me for it. It is a $70 bra. After a month of calling multiple times a week and several times of leaving my name and phone number for supervisors to call back I have yet to hear anything. No supervisor has reached back out. I spoke with the patient advocate and she said she would review footage and get back to me. I haven't heard anything back from her. I find it shameful that someone would take a personal item from a child. Also that nothing is being done about it. At this point just call me and reimburse the value of the item stolen from my child. I do not recommend sending or taking anything that you don't want stolen from you.
Went in 2018. They never gave me my fidget spinner back :( good good!
Honestly love your cooks. You guys are nice. But I just met another fellow SSBTS graduate. Long term review (from two attendees that just happened to meet) : didn’t help lol
I have an adult daughter there. I'm hundreds of miles away. I have an access number or confirmation number, depending on who answers the phone. The switchboard is on loop. It's impossible to return a missed call. That… makes the unsanitary reviews more believable.
This is a horrible place. Our experience was with our grandson. It was very unprofessional. They were not helpful. The nurse on his floor was rude. They only kept him for three days and said he was ready to leave. Which… of course he wasn’t. We paid around $4200 for absolutely nothing. If you love your loved one family member or friend please send them somewhere else.
