Treatment Centers in Georgia That Accept Aetna

Aetna covers drug and alcohol rehab in Georgia for members of employer plans and Aetna Medicare Advantage, with precertification required for inpatient, residential and partial hospitalization care. Aetna’s individual marketplace plans in Georgia ended in January 2026, and Aetna runs no Georgia Medicaid plan, so how a member is covered decides which rules apply.

Listings on this page come from state licensing records in Georgia and from government treatment registers, and each shows the care levels a program offers. Programs that take Aetna appear in metro Atlanta, Marietta, Savannah, Augusta and Athens, and in the lake and mountain counties north of the city, where drug and alcohol rehab is more spread out.

Does Aetna Cover Rehab in Georgia?

Yes, depending on the plan. Aetna’s Georgia row lists Medicare Advantage, and its national employer plans also cover Georgia workers; its Aetna CVS Health marketplace plans, sold in Georgia in 2024, ended in January 2026, so those former members look for addiction treatment across Georgia through other plans.

Aetna is the brand of Aetna Life Insurance Company and its affiliates, owned by CVS Health since November 28, 2018. In Georgia its Medicare plans include contract H2293, written by SilverScript Insurance Company and rated four stars for 2026. Aetna manages behavioral health in-house, CVS Caremark runs pharmacy, and rehabs that accept Aetna are listed below.

Is Aetna part of Georgia Medicaid?

No. Aetna Better Health runs Medicaid plans in other states, but Georgia Families runs through Amerigroup, CareSource and Peach State, and Aetna was not among the four plans the Georgia Department of Community Health named for new contracts on December 2, 2024. Members with Medicaid use Georgia Medicaid rehab options instead.

Does Aetna Cover Inpatient Rehab in Georgia?

Yes, if the employer or Medicare plan includes residential care. Aetna’s national precertification list for behavioral health, dated August 1, 2024 and still linked in 2026, treats hospital, residential and addiction facility stays as inpatient confinements that can be covered for employer and Medicare Advantage members, subject to the plan, at residential rehab that takes insurance.

Does Aetna need prior authorization for inpatient rehab?

Yes. Aetna requires precertification for inpatient and residential substance use stays and for partial hospitalization, and reviews each request against the ASAM Criteria. An in-network Georgia program requests it directly, but with an out-of-network program the member must arrange it, and two Choice POS II plan summaries add a penalty when that step is skipped.

Does Aetna Cover Detox in Georgia?

Yes, on plans that include it. One 2026 New York employer plan from Aetna lists ambulatory detox with medication as covered, and an earlier Aetna list took outpatient detox off precertification as of January 1, 2019. Detox inside a hospital or residential facility counts as an inpatient confinement and needs precertification, and insured medical detox programs are listed here.

Does Aetna Cover Outpatient Rehab in Georgia?

Yes. Aetna plans cover outpatient visits and individual, group and family therapy for substance use, in person or by video, and Aetna puts the wait for a virtual counselor at three days or less. Aetna’s current precertification list does not include intensive outpatient care, and IOP programs taking insurance are listed below.

That same New York employer plan document also covers partial hospitalization and peer counseling by supervised peer support specialists, and Aetna’s national list requires precertification for partial hospitalization. Aetna names CVS Virtual Care and Teladoc Health for virtual therapy seven days a week, available on many but not all plans, alongside online and telehealth rehab or partial hospitalization with insurance.

Does Aetna Cover Suboxone, Methadone and Other Addiction Medications?

Yes. Aetna covers medications for addiction treatment, and the route depends on the plan. Medicare covers methadone, buprenorphine and naltrexone for opioid use disorder at Medicare-enrolled opioid treatment programs, which applies to Aetna Medicare members in Georgia, while employer plans fill prescriptions through CVS Caremark. Naltrexone treatment with insurance is listed.

Does Aetna cover methadone?

Yes for members on Aetna Medicare, whose methadone comes from Medicare-enrolled opioid treatment programs that pair the medication with counseling, drug testing and peer support. Under Original Medicare those program services carry no copay after the Part B deductible. Each licensed methadone program in Georgia is also licensed by the Georgia Department of Community Health under rule 111-8-53.

Does Aetna cover Suboxone?

Yes. Aetna said in 2017 that, from that March, its commercial plans would no longer require prior authorization for buprenorphine, Suboxone included. CVS Caremark runs the pharmacy benefit, and the drug’s tier depends on the member’s own Aetna formulary for the plan year, so the member’s current drug list, not the 2017 announcement, sets the cost of insured Suboxone treatment.

Aetna Rehab Centers Near the Airport, the Lakes and the Waterfalls

Aetna coverage in Georgia does not change with scenery, because its plans use a national network rather than Georgia Families regions. What changes is whether the plan pays out of network: Aetna’s POS and PPO designs do, while its HMO and EPO designs pay only for emergencies, which matters when the nearest program is not in network.

Aetna rehab near Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport

Hartsfield-Jackson, on the Clayton and Fulton county line south of Atlanta, is the state’s main air gateway. Aetna’s PPO and open-access POS designs cover both in-network and out-of-network care without referrals, while its HMO designs need a primary care physician and referrals, and rehabs near major airports include programs near East Point.

Aetna rehab around Lake Lanier and Lake Allatoona

Lake Lanier, in Hall and Forsyth counties, and Lake Allatoona, in Bartow and Cherokee counties, sit north of Atlanta. Members of Aetna’s HMO and EPO designs there are covered only in network, while members of its POS designs can use a lakeside treatment program out of network at a higher cost share, including Gainesville recovery programs.

Aetna rehab near North Georgia waterfalls

Amicalola Falls in Dawson County, Tallulah Gorge on the Rabun and Habersham line and Toccoa Falls in Stephens County mark the southern edge of the Blue Ridge. Aetna says virtual counseling appointments are open within three days or less, which can bridge the distance between in-person visits, and rehabs near waterfalls include programs around Toccoa.

How Do I Find a Rehab That Accepts Aetna in Georgia?

Browse the listings on this page. Each program here names Aetna among the insurance it takes, the filters sort them by Georgia city, care level and substance, and the number on a listing reaches that program’s admissions staff, who can say which Aetna networks they join. Private insurance rehabs statewide sit on a separate page.

Admission with Aetna starts with precertification for inpatient, residential and partial hospitalization care. An in-network Georgia program asks Aetna for it; for an out-of-network program the member arranges it through the number on the Aetna ID card. Retirees in employer group Medicare plans use 1-800-307-4830, and the other Aetna lines are below.

Aetna rehab in Atlanta and Fulton County

Atlanta’s CVS stores give Aetna employer-plan members an extra Georgia option: MinuteClinic offers in-person mental health visits in Georgia, one of 14 states where Aetna lists that service. Those visits suit counseling and follow-up rather than intensive care, which runs through Atlanta addiction treatment and Midtown Atlanta treatment programs.

Aetna rehab in Marietta and Cobb County

Aetna administers self-funded employer plans as well as insured ones, and for a worker in Marietta or Cobb County on a self-funded plan the employer’s plan document, not Aetna, sets the rehab benefit. Aetna’s precertification list still applies to inpatient and residential stays, and Marietta rehab programs and Roswell treatment options list Aetna where they take it.

Aetna rehab in Savannah and Chatham County

Savannah retirees on Aetna Medicare Advantage can get methadone and buprenorphine at Medicare-enrolled opioid treatment programs, and Aetna advertised nationally that certain 2026 Medicare Advantage plans charge no copay for routine behavioral health visits with a high-value provider. Partial hospitalization and inpatient stays still need precertification at treatment centers in Savannah.

Aetna rehab in Athens and Clarke County

Athens residents who bought an Aetna CVS Health marketplace plan for 2024 or 2025 lost it when Aetna left the exchanges in January 2026. They now buy coverage through Georgia Access, the state marketplace, from insurers such as CareSource and Ambetter from Peach State Health Plan, and Athens drug and alcohol rehabs show which plans they take.

Can I use Aetna for rehab in a different state?

Aetna coverage out of state depends on the plan. Aetna’s network is national, so a Georgia employer-plan member can use an in-network program in Florida or Tennessee at in-network cost. POS and PPO designs add reduced out-of-network benefits, HMO and EPO designs cover only emergencies outside the network, and in-network rates at an outside program need precertification.

How much does rehab cost with Aetna?

Aetna costs depend on the specific plan, since copays and coinsurance are set plan by plan. 2026 employer plan summaries pair a flat copay for outpatient behavioral visits with coinsurance for inpatient stays. A program outside the network may bill the gap between its charge and Aetna’s allowed amount, and that gap never counts toward the out-of-pocket limit.

Aetna members who lost coverage when the marketplace plans ended, or whose plan leaves out a program, have other routes in Georgia. Uninsured residents may qualify for state-funded treatment in Georgia, paid for by the state through contracted providers, and self-pay rehab options are marked in the listings.
