Long Term Rehab Centers in Georgia

Long-term rehab in Georgia usually means a treatment stay planned to run past the standard 30 days, often for several months. The stay may be in a residential setting, or in a stepped program that moves from round-the-clock care toward more independence. Listings here draw on government treatment registers, state licensing records, accreditor listings, and details the providers send us.

Georgia programs offering longer stays sit mostly outside the big city centers. About 42% are in towns and 31% in rural areas, with 27% in urban settings, and the median program sits at 920 feet of elevation, from a low of 140 to a high of 1,540 feet.

Common questions about Long Term Rehab

Answered from what is listed here.

Which Georgia cities have long-term rehabs?

Marietta, Albany and Atlanta lead the places where long-term rehab listings in Georgia cluster, followed by Yonah and Swainsboro. Families comparing extended residential stays across the state can start with these places, then widen the search if a bed or the right setting is unavailable.

Around the larger cities, Atlanta, Athens and Toccoa also anchor nearby options. A program close to home can make family visits and later outpatient care easier to arrange.

Long Term Rehab Centers in Atlantahttps://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/georgia/atlanta/long-term-rehab-atlanta/
Do long-term rehabs in Georgia accept Medicaid?

Only a few of the long-term rehabs in Georgia record accepting Georgia Medicaid, so coverage is worth confirming before a stay begins. Georgia Families care management organizations such as Amerigroup Community Care, CareSource and Peach State Health Plan may be involved, and asking the admissions team which plans they take saves time.

Rehab Centers in Georgia That Accept Georgia Medicaidhttps://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/georgia/georgia-medicaid/
Are there long-term rehabs near a river in Georgia?

Most of the long-term rehabs in Georgia sit within 25 miles of a river, at a median of about 9.4 miles to the nearest one. The most-named rivers are the Dead River, the Mulberry River and the Right Fork Soquee River, which may appeal to people hoping for a quieter setting.

How long is long-term treatment for substance use in Georgia?

Long-term treatment in Georgia generally means a structured program built for stays longer than about 30 days, commonly 60 to 90 days and sometimes six months or more. Georgia providers do not share one definition, so the length shown on a listing is what that program reports, and clinical reviews can shorten or extend a planned stay.

To see how lengths differ, set these listings beside the 30-day rehab programs in Georgia and the wider set of residential rehab listings. A longer stay may suit someone who had a recurrence after shorter treatment, has unstable housing, or lives with a co-occurring mental health condition. Intake staff assess which level of care fits each person.

Insurance rarely authorizes months at once. Georgia Medicaid plans and private insurers tend to grant days in blocks after reviewing medical necessity, so ask the admissions team what level of care it plans to request, how frequently the plan reviews the stay, and what follows a denial.

A long stay usually closes with a step-down plan, often to intensive outpatient care, regular counseling or recovery housing. Recovery homes in Georgia offer a place to live with peer support but no clinical treatment, and the state does not certify them, so ask any program for its license type and number before committing to months away.

Can I keep taking medication for opioid or alcohol use disorder during a long stay?

Many long-term programs list that they continue medication for opioid or alcohol use disorder, but not every program does, so ask before admission. Georgia’s Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) acts as the state opioid authority. From January 1, 2026, DBHDD also licenses Narcotic Treatment Programs. If a program does not prescribe on site, ask whether it coordinates care with a methadone clinic or a buprenorphine provider.

Withdrawal from alcohol or benzodiazepines can be dangerous, so a medically managed detox stay in Georgia often comes first. In an emergency, call 911.

Will Georgia Medicaid or private insurance pay for a long-term program?

Coverage for a long stay depends on the plan. Insurers usually approve treatment days in blocks after a medical necessity review rather than authorizing months up front. Georgia Medicaid runs its managed care through Georgia Families. Its care management organizations have included Amerigroup Community Care, CareSource and Peach State Health Plan, but plan line-ups can change, so look for your plan’s name on your member card.

Georgia has not adopted the adult Medicaid expansion. The Georgia Pathways to Coverage program covers some adults with income up to 100% of the federal poverty level who meet monthly work or qualifying-activity hours. Pathways eligibility rules change on January 1, 2027.

Private plans also vary, and each listing shows the insurers a program reports accepting. Before admission, ask the admissions team three things: which level of care they will request, how often reviews happen, and what follows if a review denies more days. Our Medicaid rehab page covers more on public coverage.

How is long-term treatment different from recovery housing in Georgia?

Long-term clinical treatment is licensed health care with counselors and medical staff. Recovery housing, by contrast, is a supportive place to live that does not itself provide treatment. In Georgia, DBHDD licenses Drug Abuse Treatment and Education Programs. House Bill 584 moved that licensing from the Department of Community Health to DBHDD on January 1, 2026.

No state certification for recovery residences was found. Some homes hold voluntary certification through the Georgia Association of Recovery Residences. Some faith-based programs in Georgia offer stays of a year or longer without a treatment license. Ask any program for its license type and number, then contact DBHDD’s licensing office if anything is unclear.

Therapeutic communityStructured group living for monthsLicensed only if it provides treatment
Recovery or faith-based housingPeer-supported living, no clinical careNo state license; voluntary certification possible

Our sober living listings in Georgia cover the housing side.

What are the options if I cannot afford a long-term program?

Uninsured Georgia residents can ask about state-funded treatment through DBHDD, which contracts with providers across six state regions. The Georgia Crisis and Access Line, 1-800-715-4225, helps callers reach state-funded providers and find open crisis or detox beds. DBHDD’s Women’s Treatment and Recovery Services serve women who are pregnant or parenting children under 13. Pregnant women also receive admission preference under federal block grant rules. Related listings are on our pages for state-funded rehab and rehab for pregnant women in Georgia.

Several things drive the price of a long stay: the number of days, medical staffing, whether medication is provided, and room and board. Georgia publishes no statewide price, so ask each program for a written estimate and a list of the payment types it accepts.

What happens when a long stay in Georgia ends?

A long stay usually ends with a step-down plan rather than a sudden discharge. That plan often moves to an intensive outpatient program, regular counseling, or recovery housing.

Before a months-long stay, ask the program in writing about its phone rules, visiting hours, family sessions and mail. Raise job protection with your employer’s human resources office early, since federal and employer leave rules decide whether a job is held.

Travel distance matters for family visits. DeKalb Peachtree Airport is the nearest airport for more than half of Georgia’s long-stay programs, and the median program sits 33.7 miles from its closest airport. About 65% lie within 25 miles of a river, at a median of 9.4 miles. Some sit near Long Mountain or the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests in north Georgia.

Each listing shows what the provider reports about length of stay, levels of care, payment types, insurers, accreditation, gender and age served, and languages. All program types are on the Georgia rehab page.
