Treatment Centers in Texas That Accept Texas Medicaid

Texas Medicaid pays for drug and alcohol rehab through the health plan each member picks, such as Superior, Molina or Community Health Choice, rather than through a separate behavioral health program. Detox, residential treatment, outpatient counseling and medications for addiction treatment are covered benefits, with stay limits set in state rules.

Texas licensing records and government treatment registers supply the facilities shown here, with any Joint Commission or CARF accreditation marked on the listing. Programs in Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Austin and El Paso appear alongside smaller cities on the Gulf Coast and in West Texas. Use the level-of-care filter to narrow what is shown.

Common questions about Texas Medicaid

Answered from what is listed here.

Does Texas Medicaid cover rehab?

Yes. Texas Medicaid covers substance use disorder treatment as a named benefit, including assessment, individual and group counseling, outpatient and residential withdrawal management, residential treatment and medication-assisted treatment.

Care must come from a facility holding an HHSC chemical dependency treatment facility license.

Medicaid Rehabhttps://rehabseekers.com/insurance-accepted/medicaid/
Does Texas Medicaid cover inpatient or residential rehab?

Yes. Texas Medicaid covers residential treatment for up to 35 days per episode of care, with no more than two episodes in a rolling six months and four in a rolling twelve months.

A plan can authorize additional days when medical necessity is documented, and prior authorization applies to every stay.

Medicaid Residential Rehabhttps://rehabseekers.com/insurance-accepted/medicaid/medicaid-residential-rehab/
Does Texas Medicaid cover detox?

Yes. Texas Medicaid calls it withdrawal management, covered in outpatient and residential settings for up to 21 days per episode, with hospital care available for severe withdrawal.

There is no limit on the number of episodes, but each one needs prior authorization.

Medicaid Detoxhttps://rehabseekers.com/insurance-accepted/medicaid/medicaid-detox/

Does Texas Medicaid Cover Rehab in Texas?

Yes. Texas Medicaid covers drug and alcohol rehab as a named benefit in Texas Administrative Code rule 1 TAC 354.1311: assessment, counseling, withdrawal management, residential treatment and medication-assisted treatment. Care must come from a chemical dependency treatment facility licensed by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, a rule that applies to all Texas drug and alcohol rehabs billing Medicaid.

Texas Medicaid is the federal Medicaid program as Texas runs it, and most members receive it through a managed care plan. The Health and Human Services Commission contracts plans in four programs, STAR, STAR+PLUS, STAR Kids and STAR Health, plus CHIP, across 13 service areas. Behavioral health has been part of those plans since September 1, 2014.

Which Texas Medicaid plan pays for rehab?

The member’s own health plan pays, because Texas Medicaid has no separate statewide behavioral health vendor. Each plan sets prior authorization rules within state policy, so one residential stay can follow different rules in Houston and Lubbock. Plans run from Superior to local ones like Parkland and Driscoll; FirstCare and RightCare left Texas Medicaid on August 31, 2026.
