About Capital Area Counseling Services – Pierre

Capital Area Counseling Services operates from 2001 Eastgate Avenue in Pierre. The site sits in Hughes County, which shapes which public funding routes apply. The practical catchment runs wider than the city limits, taking in people who travel in rather than finding care on their doorstep.

Intensive outpatient and outpatient care are delivered here, alongside medication-assisted treatment, telehealth appointments and care for co-occurring mental health conditions. Which level fits depends on the assessment rather than on what is available, so the useful first question is what that assessment involves.

Treatment Services at Capital Area Counseling Services

Intensive outpatient and outpatient care run to a set weekly schedule, with evenings and weekends spent at home. That suits people holding down work or caring responsibilities, though it asks more of someone managing early recovery alone. Ask what the assessment involves before you commit.

Buprenorphine and naltrexone are available and paired with counseling rather than prescribed alone. Trauma-specific services run alongside, which matters where the two are tangled together. Co-occurring mental health conditions are treated in the same building rather than split across providers.

Capital Area Counseling Services Address, Location and Contact Information

The address is 2001 Eastgate Avenue, Pierre, SD 57501, in Hughes County. Confirm what a program covers before traveling in, since the level of care listed is not always the level with capacity. It is worth checking which entrance to use and where parking sits before a first appointment.

Telehealth appointments cover some contact where travel is difficult, which removes part of the journey for people further out. Ask what a first appointment involves and how long the current wait runs before making the trip. Waiting times vary with capacity, so call ahead rather than arriving unannounced.

My experience at Cac was disappointing. I felt the program prioritized funding over treatment plans or individualized care. Communication was poor, concerns were often dismissed, and I did not feel listened to or… supported by my counselor,Jamie.

I would rate this organization far below one star if possible. It is difficult to understand how this counseling service remains in operation. In my experience, the staff demonstrate a concerning lack of professionalism… and respect, raising serious questions about the quality and safety of care provided. I have personally observed instances where treatment plans appeared to be altered based on personal bias rather than clinical judgment, which is deeply troubling and inconsistent with accepted standards of care. Additionally, the fact that this organization holds prescriptive authority is concerning given these observations. For individuals required to attend counseling through court mandate, I strongly recommend seeking an alternative provider whenever possible.

Dr. Holly Ahlers treated my daughter poorly. This place has broke confidentiality several times. Would give 0 stars if I could.

The med clinic is a joke!!! They gave me 30 day supply of my medication but didn’t have me scheduled to get more for 38 day then they discontinued my prescription because they think I’m drug seeking. I’ve been using… these services for 4 years.

I've been here twice for at least 2 years and most of the time they just talk to you about your goals and ways to coup with things like anxiety and depression or whatever you're taking as a substance but half the time… it doesn't work and new group sessions are pretty useless you do a couple homework sheets about self care and relapse and talk about your day the rest of the time you're there so it can be dragged on for 3 hours to add onto this they don't really respond back to you if you text them about important scheduling

If you are looking to have an unethical romantic relationship with a counselor, this place is perfect for you. If you are looking to be treated fairly and with respect, look elsewhere.
