Benzodiazepine Rehab Centers in Colorado

Benzodiazepine rehab in Colorado covers several kinds of care, from a slow outpatient taper managed by a prescriber to medically monitored withdrawal management and residential programs. People come to these programs from different places. Some have taken alprazolam, clonazepam or lorazepam as prescribed for years. Others use sedatives without a prescription or alongside alcohol or opioids.

The listings on this page show Colorado programs that name benzodiazepine or sedative treatment, with their levels of care, payment types and locations. Before changing any dose, talk with the prescriber or a medical team, because stopping suddenly can be dangerous.

Common questions about Benzo Rehab

Answered from what is listed here.

Which Colorado cities have benzo rehabs?

Benzodiazepine rehabs in Colorado cluster in Colorado Springs, Aurora, Aspen Park, Columbine and Arvada, named here in that order. Searching by community makes comparing programs simpler when a person wants treatment within reach of home, work or relatives who may visit.

Denver, Colorado Springs and Fort Collins are the larger cities nearby, which matters for anyone arranging transport, family visits or follow-up appointments after a residential stay ends.

Rehab Centers in Colorado Springshttps://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/colorado/colorado-springs/
Does Health First Colorado cover benzo rehab in Colorado?

Health First Colorado is accepted by most of the benzo rehabs in Colorado. Members get behavioral health care through their region's Regional Accountable Entity, such as Rocky Mountain Health Plans, Colorado Community Health Alliance or Colorado Access, and admissions teams can confirm which plan applies before intake.

Rehab Centers in Colorado That Accept Health First Coloradohttps://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/colorado/health-first-colorado/
Are there benzo rehabs near a river in Colorado?

Most of the benzo rehabs in Colorado are within 25 miles of a river, with a median of about 10.5 miles from each listed facility to the nearest one.

The North Fork South Platte River, the Burgess River and the Little Thompson River are the most-named rivers near these programs. Distance to water is a practical detail for families, alongside level of care, payment and travel time.

Is it safe to stop taking benzodiazepines on my own?

Stopping benzodiazepines on your own is not safe, in Colorado or anywhere, because sudden withdrawal can include seizures. Any reduction should be a gradual taper planned with the prescriber or a medical team, and a clinical assessment decides whether that taper can be handled with outpatient visits or needs medical monitoring.

Federal clinical guidance describes tapers that can run over weeks or months and that slow down when symptoms appear. Anxiety, insomnia and low mood often need attention during and after a taper, so ask a program how it manages sleep problems and whether a prescriber stays involved after discharge.

Physical dependence is not the same as a sedative use disorder. Anyone who takes a benzodiazepine regularly, even exactly as prescribed, can become dependent, while a use disorder is diagnosed from signs like cravings, losing control over use and carrying on despite harm.

Combining a benzodiazepine with alcohol or opioids can slow breathing to a dangerous degree, and pills sold outside a pharmacy may contain fentanyl. Health First Colorado, private insurance and state-funded programs are the main ways to pay for supervised withdrawal or tapering in Colorado.

What about mixing benzodiazepines with opioids or alcohol?

Taking benzodiazepines with opioids or alcohol raises the risk of dangerously slowed breathing. Pills sold outside a pharmacy as alprazolam or other sedatives may be counterfeit and can contain fentanyl or other drugs. In an emergency, call 911.

Naloxone reverses opioids but not benzodiazepines. Give it anyway whenever opioids may be involved. Colorado’s state health department issues standing orders so agencies can hand out naloxone to people at risk.

For crisis support, call or text 988, which connects to 988 Colorado. Programs that treat opioid use alongside sedatives appear under opioid rehab in Colorado.

Is physical dependence the same as a benzodiazepine use disorder?

No. Physical dependence and a sedative use disorder are different conditions. Anyone who takes a benzodiazepine regularly can develop physical dependence, even when taking it exactly as prescribed. Dependence means the body has adapted to the drug, so withdrawal symptoms appear if the dose drops too quickly.

A sedative use disorder is a clinical diagnosis. It rests on patterns such as craving, loss of control and continued use despite harm. Someone on a stable prescription who wants to come off a benzodiazepine does not necessarily have a use disorder. The national benzodiazepine treatment guide covers both in more depth.

What does benzodiazepine treatment involve in Colorado?

Benzodiazepine treatment in Colorado ranges from outpatient tapering with a prescriber to residential care, and an assessment sets the starting level.

Level of careWhat it usually involves
Outpatient taperingDose reduced in steps with regular prescriber visits
IOP or PHPStructured therapy on most days while living at home
Medically monitored withdrawal managementMedical and nursing staff watch symptoms and adjust medication
Residential careLiving on site with daily therapy and medical oversight

Anxiety, sleep and mood care during a taper

Anxiety, insomnia and depression often need attention during and after a taper. Useful questions for a program include:

How does it manage sleep problems? Which talk therapies does it offer for anxiety? Does a psychiatrist or prescriber stay involved after discharge?

Programs treating both mental health and substance use appear under dual diagnosis rehab.

How do I pay for benzodiazepine treatment in Colorado?

Colorado has three main ways to pay: Health First Colorado, private insurance and state-funded treatment.

Health First Colorado is the state’s Medicaid program, run by the Department of Health Care Policy and Financing. Since July 1, 2025, Regional Accountable Entities have run the behavioral health benefit:

Rocky Mountain Health Plans (Region 1), Northeast Health Partners (Region 2), Colorado Community Health Alliance (Region 3) and Colorado Access (Region 4).

Members can ask their Regional Accountable Entity what withdrawal management is covered. For residential substance use treatment, the program’s fee-for-service daily rates for July 2026 through June 2027 run from $186.20 at ASAM level 3.1 to $656.11 at level 3.7. These are the amounts the program pays providers, not bills sent to members.

Pregnant members, and members up to one year postpartum, can use the Special Connections program for outpatient or women-only residential care. More detail is on the Medicaid coverage page.

Private insurance plans with substance use benefits are generally expected to cover them on terms comparable to medical care under federal parity rules.
