Treatment Centers in North Carolina That Accept NC Medicaid

NC Medicaid pays for drug and alcohol rehab through two kinds of health plan: one of four statewide Standard Plans for most members, or a regional Tailored Plan for people with severe substance use disorder or serious mental illness. Detox, intensive outpatient care and opioid treatment are covered in both, while residential treatment belongs to the Tailored Plans.

Each program shown below appears on a government treatment register or holds a North Carolina facility license, and accreditation is noted wherever a program has earned it. Programs in Charlotte, Raleigh, Greensboro, Durham and Asheville appear alongside smaller towns from the Outer Banks to the Blue Ridge. Filter by level of care, or start with your own city.

Common questions about NC Medicaid

Answered from what is listed here.

What is NC Medicaid and does it pay for rehab?

NC Medicaid is North Carolina's Medicaid coverage, paying for withdrawal management through outpatient counseling at little or no cost to members. Aftercare and continuing care is recorded at the larger part of the facilities billing it.

Medicaidhttps://rehabseekers.com/insurance/medicaid/
Who can use NC Medicaid for addiction treatment?

Women's rehab and men's rehab both appear at facilities billing NC Medicaid noticeably more often than average, so gender-specific tracks are common. Senior rehab and trauma informed care show up at similar rates.

That pattern points to programming separated by group rather than a single mixed caseload running across every admission.

Women's Rehabhttps://rehabseekers.com/specialized/womens-rehab/
What kinds of treatment does NC Medicaid pay for?

Detox and aftercare are recorded at facilities billing NC Medicaid noticeably more often than they are site-wide, and programming outside the traditional step model is too. Outpatient care appears at almost all of them.

Read together that looks like a pathway: withdrawal management, then structured outpatient work, then continuing care. Telehealth is widely noted as well, useful for anyone traveling in from beyond Charlotte or Raleigh.

Does NC Medicaid Cover Rehab in North Carolina?

Yes. NC Medicaid covers drug and alcohol rehab, but the plan that pays depends on how intensive the need is. A Standard Plan covers detox, intensive outpatient care, partial hospitalization and opioid treatment, while residential treatment sits only with the regional Tailored Plans and NC Medicaid Direct, a split that shapes care at rehab centers across North Carolina.

North Carolina delivers the federal Medicaid program through the Division of Health Benefits at the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS). Its four Standard Plans are AmeriHealth Caritas, Carolina Complete Health, Healthy Blue and UnitedHealthcare, and expansion on December 1, 2023 added adults 19 to 64 at or below 138 percent of the poverty line.

Which NC Medicaid plan pays for rehab?

The Standard Plan pays for most members, and a Tailored Plan pays for people with serious mental illness, severe substance use disorder, an intellectual or developmental disability or a brain injury. Tailored Plans began July 1, 2024 under the four Local Management Entity/Managed Care Organizations, or LME/MCOs: Alliance Health, Partners Health Management, Trillium Health Resources and Vaya Health.
