Court Ordered Rehab Centers in Louisiana

Court ordered rehab in Louisiana usually begins when a judge, prosecutor or probation officer makes treatment a condition of a case, and the steps that follow can feel heavy when life is already strained. The listings below gather Louisiana programs that say they take court referrals, from detox through weekly outpatient care.

Listing details draw on public treatment registers, state licensing records, accreditor directories and information the providers send us. Most of these programs sit in towns rather than large cities, about 65 percent, and their median elevation is just 40 feet above sea level.

Common questions about Court Ordered Rehab

Answered from what is listed here.

Where are court ordered rehabs in Louisiana?

Bossier City, Westminster, New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Lafayette are where court ordered rehab listings in Louisiana cluster, in that order. Programs in these places take referrals from a court, probation officer or attorney.

For residents elsewhere in the state, Baton Rouge, New Orleans and Lafayette are the larger cities within reach. Anyone under a treatment order can check with the court or probation office that a chosen program meets its terms.

Rehab Centers in Bossier Cityhttps://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/louisiana/bossier-city/
Do court ordered rehabs in Louisiana take Healthy Louisiana?

Healthy Louisiana is accepted by most of the court ordered rehab programs in Louisiana. The plans for 2026 are Aetna Better Health, AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana, Humana, Louisiana Healthcare Connections and Healthy Blue. Coverage runs through the plan a member is enrolled in, and Healthy Blue leaves the program at the end of 2026.

Rehab Centers in Louisiana That Accept Healthy Louisianahttps://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/louisiana/healthy-louisiana/
Are there court ordered rehabs near a river in Louisiana?

Court ordered rehab programs in Louisiana sit a median of about 10.6 miles from the nearest river, measured from listed facilities, and most of the court ordered rehab programs in Louisiana have one within 25 miles. The most-named waterways are the Comite River, River Styx Bayou and Prairie River.

River settings matter less under a court order than location and schedule. A program close to home, work or the supervising court can make required sessions easier to attend.

How does a court order someone into treatment in Louisiana?

A Louisiana court can order treatment through a criminal case, a specialty court or a separate civil commitment, and each route has its own rules. In criminal cases, treatment often appears as a probation condition, part of a suspended sentence or a term of a prosecutor’s diversion offer. District court drug divisions run probation programs under La. R.S. 13:5301 and following, using process and outcome measures set by the Louisiana Supreme Court Drug and Specialty Court Office. Some parishes also hold veterans or family treatment dockets.

Impaired driving cases follow their own statute. For a first operating while impaired offense under La. R.S. 14:98.1, a suspended sentence requires a substance use program the court accepts, which may include an assessment by a licensed clinician, plus a driver improvement program. Providers offering this work appear on the DUI and DWI programs page.

Civil commitment is a different path with no criminal charge. Under the Louisiana Mental Health Law, La. R.S. 28:54, a court can order judicial commitment of a person with a substance-related or addictive disorder who is dangerous to self or others or gravely disabled.

Will a Louisiana court accept any licensed treatment program?

Not every licensed program will satisfy a Louisiana court, because an order or supervising officer may call for a particular level of care, provider type or local referral list. The Louisiana Department of Health’s Health Standards Section licenses behavioral health service providers under standards in LAC 48:I Chapters 56 and 57. Ask a program for its license and accreditation, then ask your attorney or probation officer whether the court keeps its own list. RehabSeekers.com cannot tell you whether a court will accept a given program.

Reporting to the court

Most treatment orders expect the program to send attendance and progress updates to the judge, the drug division or a probation officer. Federal confidentiality rules for substance use records, 42 CFR Part 2, generally require your signed written consent naming who may receive which information and for how long. Ask intake staff whether they send court reports, how often, and on which form.

What levels of care can a Louisiana court require?

A Louisiana treatment order can require any level of care, from medically supervised detox to a set number of outpatient sessions, and many orders name a minimum duration or begin with an assessment that sets the level. The table pairs common order wording with listing pages.

What the order may sayWhere to look
Assessment, then follow recommendationsAny program offering assessments; intake explains the suggested level
Medically managed withdrawalDetox
Residential treatment for a set number of daysResidential rehab
Partial hospitalizationPHP programs
Intensive outpatient, several days a weekIOP programs
Weekly outpatient sessions or groupsOutpatient rehab

Withdrawal from alcohol, benzodiazepines and some other drugs can be medically serious, so detox belongs with medical staff, not at home alone. A 2023 Louisiana Medicaid bulletin allows some individual outpatient sessions by telehealth but keeps outpatient substance use groups in person; ask the court whether remote sessions count.

Medication for opioid use disorder

Louisiana’s Office of Behavioral Health acts as the State Opioid Treatment Authority over opioid treatment programs. Court rules on methadone and buprenorphine can differ, so ask drug division staff or your attorney how medication fits your program before starting or changing a dose. Listings for Suboxone clinics show where buprenorphine is offered.

How do you pay for court-ordered treatment in Louisiana?

Court-ordered treatment in Louisiana can be paid through Medicaid, state-funded slots, sliding scale fees or private insurance, depending on what each program accepts. Louisiana expanded Medicaid in 2016, and most members receive behavioral health care through Healthy Louisiana, the managed care system. Five plans serve members in 2026, and Healthy Blue is due to leave after December 31, 2026.

Publicly funded care runs through the Office of Behavioral Health, which administers federal block grant money for community programs run by regional human services districts and authorities. Pregnant women receive priority admission in that system. Without coverage, start with state-funded rehab and sliding scale rehab, and ask your attorney or officer who covers the cost; arrangements differ by court and case.

What happens if you miss sessions on a Louisiana treatment order?

The judge decides what follows missed sessions, and the response varies with the case, the court and the terms of the order. Possible responses range from a warning or added treatment to a hearing on the original sentence, and your attorney or supervising officer can explain what your order allows. Telling the program and your officer early about a schedule clash or a return to use leaves room to adjust the plan.

Louisiana listings can be filtered by level of care, payment, accreditation, languages and the populations a program serves; call intake with your order in hand. Three in four of these programs sit within 25 miles of a river, most often the Comite River, and the median trip to the nearest airport is 16 miles, with Louis Armstrong New Orleans International the most common closest airport. More options appear on the main Louisiana page and the national court-ordered treatment page.

Phone help is available from the Louisiana Substance Use Helpline at 877-664-2248, the national treatment referral line at 800-662-4357, or 988 for a mental health or substance use crisis.
