About Windham Center – Bellows Falls
Windham Center operates from 1 Hospital Court in Bellows Falls. The site sits in Windham County, which shapes which public funding routes apply. The practical catchment runs wider than the city limits, taking in people who travel in rather than finding care on their doorstep.
Hospital inpatient care and detox are delivered here, alongside medication-assisted treatment, telehealth appointments and care for co-occurring mental health conditions. Which level fits depends on the assessment rather than on what is available, so the useful first question is what that assessment involves.

Detox and Rehab Services at Windham Center
Withdrawal management covers alcohol, benzodiazepine, cocaine, methamphetamine and opioid dependence and is handled on site rather than referred elsewhere. Stepping down into continuing care happens with the same team, so there is no second intake to sit through. Ask what the assessment involves before you commit.
Buprenorphine and naltrexone are available and paired with counseling rather than prescribed alone. Co-occurring mental health conditions are treated in the same building rather than split across providers. Assessment decides the level of care, so ask what that involves and how quickly it can happen.

Windham Center Reviews and Ratings

I was there for suicidal tendencies and Borderline Personality Disorder. They were not equipped to deal with that. They use the same groups every day on the same topics because the staff are lazy. They do not teach… coping skills or skills to help. The staff hide in the nurses' station and don’t check in with patients. Don’t go if you are in crisis.
I had a very short stay at The Windham Center, and I found the location to be cozy and welcoming. The rooms are very spacious, and the food was amazing, the chef's were very accomdiating and the meals balanced and… tasty. I appreciated having access to a TV, coffee, and even a computer if I wanted. The staff were kind and truly worked to make my stay as comfortable as possible. There is access to a washer and dryer, and the kitchen/common area is clean, comfortable, and inviting. I felt this was a much nicer and more supportive environment to heal in compared to other facilities I have been in. They post a daily schedule, which I found extremely helpful, and having access to a small kitchen area made the entire experience feel more dignified and humane. Overall, it felt like a place that genuinely made healing easier and stress free.
The food was amazing. The group schedule was informative and not boring. The staff is go above and beyond. There is no accidently letting things slip. They keep everything confidential. I would recommend to anyone in… need
highly effective and comprehensive treatment program where patients receive intensive, structured care and support in a therapeutic environment. Very kind staff, excellent food. It’s hard to believe the food is hospital… food it’s delicious. Windham center saved my life.
I had a short stay at the Windham center. It was very hard to be in a place like this being younger and needing help. However I got a lot of tools in a weeks stay. You need to use the tools. You don't need to use them… how they teach you because you are your own person. Use them how they help you. Being in the health field I feel like alot of staff come in with a nice helping hand but can be a little standoffish as I know getting attached to people ECT is a rule. However it only takes one staff ECT to be not the coziest to talk to. So you just have to learn your boundaries which you do. Thank you to the 2 doctors that are there every day and check in with you that was very helpful. Elena very sweet woman. Justin a traveling nurse, Chris a mental health worker and drew and Tasha cooks who made my stay the best it could be. It's up from here ❣️💪🙏
If you are willing to get help, this is the place to go. The food is fantastic, and the chef is very very accommodating, the atmosphere is relatively homely. It still has a medical vibe, but the entirety of it isn't,… the staff are very kind and willing to help. If you're expecting therapy here, it's more of a therapeutic environment, however the staff will lend you an ear, and give you good advice. You might not be ready for that advice, but it's good nonetheless. They have lots of tools to try, and tend to focus on CBT & DBT, but they'll also discuss other types of therapy occasionally. The beds have barely any give. It's understandable though, it's still kind of like a hospital except without all the beeps going on 24/7. The pillows are kind of deflated too. There's a lot of light in the rooms which can't really be helped, but it's much darker than the ER. The hallways are noisy typically. You have to be willing to be helped to get the most out of this place, if you're not then you're just not going to have a good time. They don't force you to do anything unless it's a major safety concern. They offer the tools, you just gotta use them. Best and hopefully last psychiatric care facility experience.
I wish I could remember the names of the staff who helped me during my time there because each one of them had a huge impact on me. I was nervous about going inpatient because I had heard horror stories about… psychiatric hospitals but my experience here was lovely. Every staff was different which is to be expected but overall I felt cared for and safe and all my needs were met. Plus the food was exquisite, shout out chef Drew
I dont understand the bad reviews of this place at all. Not a single one accurately represents my experience there. The staff were exceptional and actually cared. Reading some of these reviews before i was admitted had… me worried but i honestly feel like i couldnt have ended up anywhere better. I came in and was barely able to interact with people beyond muted basic responses to questions. I left feeling like myself for the first time in months, maybe years. Of course some staff are more by the books than others, and not all personalities mesh all the time, but i never felt like myself or the other patients were treated poorly. They dont push you to do anything you really arent able to deal with and are always there to help you through what you may be going through. And even the food was excellent (shout out to Drew for that one!) I hope I never get to a point where I need an inpatient stay again, but if I do its good to know the Windham center exists, I would absolutely go back if ever I needed to.
I have been to several inpatient psychiatric hospitals from California to Florida Maryland and now here in VT and this place is by far the BEST representation of what care for one of the most vulnerable demographics of… our society. I was treated with respect and genuine care/concern. As with alot of businesses not all employees enjoyed what they do. But as a rule every member of the staff was amazing. I would highly recommend Windham Center for your loved ones mental health care. Thank Ernie and Elana.
My daughter was admitted to this facility a few weeks ago. I don't understand the bad reviews. Maybe things have changed. Her care was EXCEPTIONAL!! They were attentive, structured, careful, clean, and the staff went… the extra mile ALWAYS. Two people stood out especially. Ernie and Alena....best representation of this facility that could ever be expected. Kudos to you all.
My adult son was transferred to this facility for treatment after two days in an ER for a severe psychiatric break. He arrived at 9:00 pm and was extremely manic ( we believe he bipolar hence the admit and need for… treatment) he would not sleep spilled cocoa on the floor and was demanding he clean it himself the staff could not or did not want to do anything for his condition and literally kicked him out to the sidewalk without calling anyone to notify of his discharge at 3 a.m!!!! This clearly is not an adequate treatment center for anyone with actual mental health issues!!!
I am appalled and deeply disappointed by the abysmal treatment my friend received at the Windham Center for Psychiatric Care. This mental institution, if it can even be called that, showcased an utter lack of… professionalism, empathy, and basic human decency throughout the duration of his stay. From start, he claimed all the staff were very friendly and easy to speak with. He was beginning to recover just mere hours of his stay. But in the end, this place proved to be an abhorrent example of how not to care for vulnerable individuals in need of mental health support. He was transported to the Windham Center for Psychiatric Care for his suicidal tendencies, potential bipolar disorder and schizophrenic mannerisms. From the Emergency room with the hope of receiving the help he so desperately required. However, what he encountered was a harrowing ordeal that has left me utterly outraged. Despite arriving at around 8:00pm, a time when patients should expect to receive prompt attention and care, His brief visit was ended with neglect and indifference. To make matters worse, the center shamelessly decided to discharge Him merely a few hours later, citing his supposed "disruptive" behavior as the reason. I find it utterly incredulous that a facility entrusted with the responsibility of treating mental health patients would resort to such an excuse to shirk their obligations. Discharging a patient at approximately 3:30am (Barely 8 hours after being admitted), alone and vulnerable, is not only unprofessional but also a blatant disregard for their well-being. I'm lucky and surprised he was able to find a phone to call me, and astonished he was able to remember my phone number by heart. By casting Him aside in the dark hours of the morning, the Windham Center for Psychiatric Care revealed its complete lack of compassion and genuine concern for their patients. It is unconscionable that a supposed sanctuary of mental healing would engage in such heartless behavior, abandoning an individual in dire need of assistance when they are at their most vulnerable. It is clear that the staff at Windham Center for Psychiatric Care are woefully ill-equipped to handle the challenges that come with providing proper mental health care. The disregard shown towards His mental well-being reflects a systemic failure within the mental institution, indicating a dire need for immediate reform, and a general reform for mental healthcare all across this country. Patients deserve an environment where their needs are met with compassion and understanding, not a callous abandonment in the dead of morning. I implore anyone considering Windham Center for Psychiatric Care to reconsider their options. This place is a disgrace to the field of mental health care, and its treatment of my loved one is a testament to the fundamental flaws plaguing its operations. It is imperative that we demand better for those struggling with mental health issues, and that begins with holding facilities like Windham Center for Psychiatric Care accountable for their abhorrent actions with a less than reasonable excuse. TL:DR, Windham Center for Psychiatric Care's decision to discharge Him in the early hours of the morning, based on flimsy justifications, is a clear reflection of their inability to provide the care and support that patients deserve. Avoid this institution at all costs, for the sake of your well-being and that of your loved ones.
I've been trying since November to get help through all the psychiatric facilities including here and every single time I get turned away, well on December 29th,2022 I had a very close suicide attempt and was… unresponsive for 15 minutes before emt was able to revive me, I've had many more attempts of killing myself and yet still get turned away.. this time I'm done asking practically begging for help, y'all don't want to help ok fine..
was a great place with great staff and the whole crew was great
