Rehab Centers in Idaho That Accept Medicare

Medicare can pay for parts of drug and alcohol treatment in Idaho, but not for every kind of program. The listings here are Idaho programs that report accepting Medicare, from hospital withdrawal care in the Boise area to outpatient counseling and opioid treatment in Pocatello, Idaho Falls and Coeur d’Alene.

Coverage depends on three things: which part of Medicare applies, whether you have Original Medicare or a Medicare Advantage plan, and whether the program is enrolled with Medicare. The sections below explain each one in plain terms. They also cover what Idaho Medicaid can add for people who qualify for both programs.

Common questions about Medicare Rehab

Answered from what is listed here.

Where are Medicare rehabs in Idaho?

Garden City leads the list of Idaho places where programs accepting Medicare cluster, followed by Nampa, Pocatello, Meridian and Coeur d'Alene. Listings also sit near the larger cities of Boise, Idaho Falls and Pocatello, so people living in or around those cities can often start a Medicare-covered search without traveling far from home.

Rehab Centers in Garden Cityhttps://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/idaho/garden-city-id/
Do Medicare rehabs in Idaho take Idaho Medicaid?

Idaho Medicaid is accepted alongside Medicare by nearly all of the rehabs that take Medicare in Idaho, so people enrolled in both programs usually have a choice of providers. Intake staff can explain how the two coverages combine for a planned level of care.

Out-of-pocket costs for dual coverage depend on the level of care, the length of stay and the plans a person holds, so asking for a written estimate before admission is sensible.

Rehab Centers in Idaho That Accept Idaho Medicaidhttps://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/idaho/idaho-medicaid/
Are there Medicare rehabs near a river in Idaho?

Rivers and creeks lie within 25 miles of most of the rehabs that take Medicare in Idaho, at a median of about 9.1 miles from the nearest one. Currant Creek, Council Spring Creek and the Portneuf River are the most-named waterways, with distances measured from each listed facility.

Rehab Centers Near Rivershttps://rehabseekers.com/attractions/rivers/

Does Medicare pay for addiction treatment in Idaho?

Yes, Medicare pays for medically necessary addiction treatment in Idaho when the provider is enrolled in Medicare and the service fits one of its benefit categories. The benefit is federal, so the rules in Boise match the rules in Twin Falls; what differs from town to town is which local programs bill Medicare.

Coverage is split across three parts. Part A handles hospital stays, including medically managed withdrawal, Part B handles outpatient counseling, day programs and opioid treatment program services, and Part D handles prescriptions such as buprenorphine and naltrexone. Deductibles and coinsurance change each January, so check current figures before admission.

Live-in rehab outside a hospital setting generally falls outside Medicare, and so does sober living. Someone with only Medicare could face the full daily cost there, even when the same program bills Medicare for outpatient care.

Medicare is not only for adults 65 and older, which matters for younger Idaho residents living with a long-term disability or kidney failure. Eligibility before 65 comes through specific routes, and each of those routes carries its own conditions.

  • People who have received Social Security Disability Insurance for 24 months
  • People with end-stage renal disease

Many people in both groups also qualify for Idaho Medicaid or a Medicare Savings Program. These can help with premiums, deductibles and coinsurance.

Idaho programs that list Medicare are mostly in towns rather than big urban cores. Of the mapped listings, 85 percent are in town settings and 14 percent are in rural areas. Garden City, Nampa, Pocatello, Meridian, Coeur d’Alene and Idaho Falls appear most often. Boise Air Terminal/Gowen Field is the nearest airport for about half of these programs, and the median distance to the nearest airport is 9.1 miles. That can help relatives who are traveling in. For every type of care in the state, start from the Idaho treatment page.

Which parts of Medicare cover detox, outpatient care and medications?

Medicare splits substance use care across three parts: Part A covers hospital stays, Part B covers outpatient services and Part D covers prescriptions.

PartWhat it can pay forLimits to know
Part AInpatient hospital care, including medically managed withdrawal, and inpatient psychiatric hospital careStays in a freestanding psychiatric hospital have a 190-day lifetime limit
Part BOutpatient counseling, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, and opioid treatment program services, including methadoneThe yearly deductible and coinsurance usually apply
Part DBuprenorphine, naltrexone and other prescribed medicationsEach plan has its own drug list; a yearly out-of-pocket cap applies

Medicare deductibles and coinsurance change every January. Check the current figures on Medicare.gov or call 1-800-MEDICARE rather than relying on older numbers.

Since 2024, licensed counselors and marriage and family therapists can enroll as Medicare providers. As a result, more Idaho counseling practices may now be able to bill Medicare.

Idaho listings for each level of care are on separate pages:

Many of these programs also report care for co-occurring mental health conditions.

Does Medicare cover residential rehab, and what are the options if it does not?

Medicare generally does not pay for residential rehab at a program that is not a hospital, and it does not pay for sober living. Many Idaho residential programs are not hospitals. Someone with only Medicare could be billed the full daily cost there, even if the same program lists Medicare for its outpatient services.

Idaho Medicaid can fill part of that gap for people who qualify for both programs. Idaho expanded Medicaid in January 2020. Its behavioral health benefit runs through Magellan of Idaho as the Idaho Behavioral Health Plan. That plan’s rate schedule includes a daily rate for adult clinically managed high-intensity residential care. Two insurers offer plans built only for people with both Medicare and Medicaid, through Idaho Medicaid Plus and the Medicare Medicaid Coordinated Plan:

  • Molina Healthcare of Idaho
  • UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Idaho

More on this is on the Medicaid page.

Idaho residents without Medicaid can call Magellan of Idaho at 1-855-202-0973. Ask about the Division of Behavioral Health’s SUD Services Program, which is funded through a federal block grant. Other options include state-funded programs and sliding fee clinics. Compare these with the residential listings before choosing.

How do Medicare Advantage plans in Idaho handle substance use treatment?

Medicare Advantage plans in Idaho must cover at least what Original Medicare covers for substance use care. However, they usually limit members to a provider network and may require prior authorization before admission. A program that accepts Original Medicare may still be out of network for a particular Advantage plan. Call the plan, as well as the program, before you go.

What to ask before admission

Before admission, ask the admissions team:

  • Whether the program is enrolled in Medicare
  • Which of its services it bills to Medicare
  • What your out-of-pocket costs are likely to be
  • Whether sessions can happen by video

Medicare covers many behavioral health visits by telehealth, including from home. Under Idaho Code 54-5707, a provider can prescribe controlled medications such as buprenorphine through virtual care only in compliance with federal law.

Where can people on Medicare in Idaho get free help comparing coverage?

Free, unbiased help is available through Idaho’s State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP). You can also call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) at any hour, and it can give you the local SHIP counseling number. For help finding treatment, call the national treatment referral line at 1-800-662-4357. In a crisis, call or text 988.

RehabSeekers.com builds these listings from government treatment registers, state licensing records, accreditor directories and information that providers send in themselves. A Medicare label means the listing reports Medicare acceptance, so check with the program before you rely on it. Idaho programs on this list sit a median 9.1 miles from a river, most often Currant Creek. For background on the benefit nationwide, see Medicare rehab coverage.
