About Nebraska Medical Center – Omaha

Nebraska Medical Center operates from 4350 Dewey Avenue in Omaha. The site sits in Douglas County, which shapes which public funding routes apply. Nearby communities include La Vista and Ralston. Nebraska draws people across long distances for treatment, so travel time is worth weighing against waiting time.

Detox, intensive outpatient and outpatient care are delivered here, alongside medication-assisted treatment, telehealth appointments and care for co-occurring mental health conditions. Which level fits depends on the assessment rather than on what is available, so the useful first question is what that assessment involves.

Withdrawal management covers alcohol, benzodiazepine, cocaine, methamphetamine and opioid dependence and is handled on site rather than referred elsewhere. Stepping down into continuing care happens with the same team, so there is no second intake to sit through. Ask what the assessment involves before you commit.

Buprenorphine and naltrexone are available and paired with counseling rather than prescribed alone. Co-occurring mental health conditions are treated in the same building rather than split across providers. Assessment decides the level of care, so ask what that involves and how quickly it can happen.

How Much Does Treatment at Nebraska Medical Center Cost?

Cash rates in Nebraska generally put a week of medical detox at $1,540 to $4,900, intensive outpatient at $2,500 to $8,500 a month and standard outpatient care at $1,200 to $4,500 a month. Prices published by Nebraska Medical Center were not found at the time of writing, so the state figures are the closest guide.

A price from Nebraska Medical Center would probably include medical monitoring, the intake assessment, group therapy and individual counseling. CBT, EMDR and similar therapies may be billed on top, if offered. Call the facility and ask what its figure includes.

⭐Update- it has now been 24 hours and my mother is still in the ER. This is a very REAL problem happening in our community. They do not have enough beds to accommodate patients coming in through the ER doors. I am… beyond frustrated and alarmed by the experiences my family has had at Nebraska Medicine. Tonight, my 74-year-old mother, who is a transplant patient and has AFib, has already been sitting in the Emergency Department for three hours waiting to be seen. Unfortunately, this is not our first experience with extremely long waits here. We have experienced ER waits in the 4–5 hour range. I understand that emergency rooms triage patients based on severity, but when waits like this become the norm, there is clearly a capacity problem. Nebraska Medicine/UNMC is investing approximately $2.19 BILLION into Project Health. How do you invest more than $2 billion into expanding a medical campus while patients are currently sitting for hours in an Emergency Department that desperately needs more capacity and resources? Yes, the future project is supposed to include a replacement Emergency Department — but patients need adequate emergency care now. Why wasn't the current ER capacity addressed sooner when this has clearly been such a significant problem? Even more concerning was my mother's hospitalization here just last week. A nurse brought her medications without explaining what they were. Thankfully, my mother asked before taking them and discovered they were medications she does not normally take. She is a transplant patient and has to be extremely careful about medications and potential interactions. Had she simply taken what was handed to her without questioning it, the consequences could have been serious. I understand hospitals are busy and healthcare workers are under tremendous pressure. My frustration isn't directed at every nurse or employee working there. This is about a system that appears unable to adequately handle the number and complexity of patients coming through its doors. Nebraska Medicine is supposed to be one of the premier medical institutions in this region, particularly for complex and transplant patients. Our recent experiences have left me with serious concerns about patient safety, communication, ER capacity, and the overall quality of care. For an institution investing billions into its future, its patients deserve better care in the present.

Nebraska Medicine will sell your medical debt to a debt collector within months of seeing you, even if you are in the middle of applying for financial aid, and retains no way to dispute with insurance once they do.

On August 18th I had a work accident and my right hand got crushed really bad so they transported me to Nebraska medicine hospital. I would like to give a huge thank you to Dr. Drake Geise and is amazing team. They… explained to me in full details that I could understand what they were going to do to help me with my crushed hand. And they explained that they were going to do a block on my nerves because I needed over 50 stitches. So Dr. Drake Geise stitch my hand up for 2 and 1/2 hours. Never giving up. You kept moving forward and you kept stitching me up even though I could tell that you had a sore back you just kept going at it. I think you and your team are amazing people. I had no way to get back home and this nurse that doesn't know me at all gave me a ride from Omaha to Ida county. She wouldn't even let me pay her for her trouble. It's hard for me to find the words to describe these amazing people. Their dedication, their attentive care, the pain management. I received the explanation of the procedures they were going to do on me in words that I could actually understand. Not all doctors explain to you what they're going to do and you can comprehend what they're saying. They are just amazing people and I believe that people should be a little more appreciative of all the work that they do to help us !!!

My legs filled with clots and I had to have a stent placed in one leg during an emergency surgery, because Nebraska Medicine decided not to treat the uterine fibroid I had. They decided to keep scanning and xraying it… and writing prescriptions for the symptoms. So this is not a good hospital anymore, they're the new St. Joeseph, remember St. Joes/ Killer Joes.

I have been trying to contact patient relations for over a month now I received one email for them apologizing about my experience. I asked to speak to a supervisor and I’ve emailed three times absolutely ridiculous.… How sad you can’t even get help when having an issue with providers.

I would like to thank Dr. Figgy/Team for the incredible care and encouragement he has given me throughout my cancer journey. My breast surgery went very well, and at every visit he lifted my spirits with laughter and… kindness. Even while going through chemotherapy and my first surgery for a double mastectomy, I always left my appointments smiling. That kind of positivity means so much when you are facing something as difficult as cancer. I still have a few procedures ahead of me, but I wanted to give him a well deserved shout-out. He is truly one of the best doctors there. I also have two friends who see him for breast cancer, and they say the same thing, he is wonderful during office visits and genuinely cares about his patients. When you are dealing with cancer there can be a lot of pain, fear, and depression while you are fighting for your life. Doctors like Dr. Sean Figy make a huge difference. We need more doctors like him who make us smile, take the pressure off, have a sense of humor, and help us feel better coming into the office. Laughter does good like medicine:) Thank you to Nebraska Medicine for the great care so far… Much appreciation, Cancer Patient Ulette Song

I spent months waiting for neurology. To see that my diagnosis was already decided before I went there due to them pulling a record from another clinic. I was sent to here on the recommendation that my diagnosis be… reconsidered. Instead I was told self refer to mayo by the doctor. Who couldn’t even be bothered to refer me which is needed to see Mayo Clinic. He told me if they don’t help then he will help. This could have been phone call and not caused a waste of time and gas to travel out of state to see. The staff outside of that were nice and the clinic was easy to find. Just wouldn’t recommend going if you are told to reconsider a diagnosis. They won’t reevaluate but use the same records your team told you to get reconfirmed as the conformation itself. You would spend the same time waiting to be told to go to Mayo as it takes to get into Mayo. So just tell your doctor to spend the energy on referral there and not here. Saves both your team time and you money.

Had some teeth removed in 2024. Paid the bill that I was sent in full. Then in January of 2025 I receive a bill for $698. Billed for separate services the hospital charges. The original bill was from May of 2024. Billed… over 1 1/2 year after service. Not very happy with this.

I am very frustrated. I received a call yesterday from my primary care nurse who left a message to call a specific number after fighting through four different which took over 30 minutes. I finally got to a human and… all the nurse wanted to tell me was that my test were normal and those tests had already been posted for me to have read the physician question has never cared about me and this is additional evidence.

I have yet to hear back from the neurology department about previous treatment when I was a minor. They seem to be stalling from all aspects on giving me answers. Based off my experience they might reconsider their… ‘extraordinary care’ motto-my experience has been anything but. Editing as of November 8, 2025: despite numerous attempts of contact over the last few months, I have yet to receive a single meaningful response. Given the lack of communication or actual answers on their end, I find it hard to believe the scripted response of ‘take situations like this seriously’, is what’s actually happening. November 13, 2025: nothing has changed Update: as of December 4th they claim they are investigating this matter Update January 2, 2026: after a 3 day investigation (I was told 2-3 weeks) they sent their findings via mail to an old address on file. Today they claimed that it would be mailed again to the correct address, I asked for an email copy also and have not received that yet. Update January 5, 2026: I received an email containing the “findings”, which happened to be a word salad with a copy and paste from an email I received in November. It appears they will not give me any actual answers.

I’ve never seen worse food in my entire life. Burnt roast beef, mystery meats, canned corn, margarine. This is bad enough to serve food that has no nutritional value yet alone flavor but in the same breath will not give… you vitamins. If you say well, I’ll bring vitamins to them to take they tell you you can’t because it’s a medicine, but then they won’t prescribe it because they say it’s not a medicine. The staff is slow if you push the button for nurse help you will not see someone for 30 minutes or more. I have let all of this be known to the customer relations department, and I’m awaiting a reply.

Doctors at Nebraska Medical violated their Hippocratic Oath by reducing pain medications prescribed by my Colorado Pain Management doctor when I was admitted to their hospital for COPD exacerbated by Para-influenza. The… reduction in my pain medications has resulted in HARM to me by increasing my pain and elevating my blood pressure before I could seek a surgical solution to severe back pain caused by a loose surgical rod intruding into disc space at L3.

There is a strange relationship between Nebraska Medicine and Children's. The doctors in the hospital/NICU don't actually work for Nebraska Medicine and are very eager to move their patients over to Children's where… they have even more control. When I walk into a building that says "Nebraska Medicine", I expect the physicians and staff to actually work for Nebraska Medicine.

The billing department is awful!! We (UNMC & myself) had a 3 way call with my insurance with United & United stating that my $1700 bill should’ve been covered and that UNMC needs to resubmit the claim. A month later… UNMC said United wouldn’t pay it so I need to pay it. I stated that there is proof we had a 3 way call with United and one of their billing members about how that bill was covered by me meeting my deductible and out of pocket!!!!!!!!!!! UNMC said “too bad, it’s not paid so you have to pay it, we don’t care what United said”. than, I qualified 2 years ago for a grant that helps cover bills and that grant stated that I can get the grant again after the one year mark hits. Which it has. So, I asked billing to use that grant again because I cannot afford a $2000 bill that my insurance said they’d pay and UNMC says nope they won’t. Well UNMC states also that they’ve exhausted all help and they can’t give me the grant again. They are heartless and don’t care about the patient!! They only care about getting their money!! It’s insurance fraud and neglect!!! I’m so disgusted with UNMC

I am posting this review as a last resort after exhausting every private and formal route at Nebraska Medicine. I was removed from care during an active medical crisis after raising concerns about my treatment, and… since then I have been unable to access continuity of care or obtain the legally required disclosure documentation for my medical record. For several months, I have continued requesting assistance, answers, and transfer of care while my health has declined. All communication attempts and denials are fully documented by date. I am not posting this for attention or conflict I am posting this because patients deserve transparency, safety, and continuity of care, and I hope no one else ends up in the same position after advocating for themselves. Excerpt from Nebraska Medicine’s written response to my HIPAA disclosures request.

Awful hospital. I’ve been to this one a few times and every time staff is rude and short and gives you no info and acts like anything you ask is an inconvenience. Not only that it’s dirty in this hospital. They rush you… through your problems and truly act like it’s an inconvenience. I would not recommend going here for anything. I will never go here again nor have my kids there ever!

I applied for their low income assistance program. And of course, they based my income on a job that I haven’t had for 14 months. They had me give them my W-2 and they had me show my bank account and my paycheck steps.… The job I had last year, of course was a really great job, but it was taking a toll on my health. So I resigned from that position, but unfortunately, that was my income last year but this year my employer even tells me every single time I get on my employment app. I’m doing horrible. My employer estimated that I should be at $33,379 for the year I just made it to 25,000 on this last paycheck. I also do receive Social Security but literally my whole entire Social Security check pays the rent. My rent is $1200 and my Social Security check is $1255.. So my work wages, of course, after taxes Is anywhere from 985 to 1000. 275 to 300 goes to work transportation expenses. Then so far if the lights, the gas, my kids school lunch, And then the groceries I sometimes have a couple of hundred dollars left to buy me and my son just random stuff. I do have insurance, but one of my medicines is not covered by insurance. It is a $1300 shot.. And I guess I was hopeful that if I was discipline and showed that I wouldn’t ruin the opportunity of this scholarship, I would get the same scholarship this year. I stayed disciplined. I stayed on track from the moment. I started the shot. I was around 250 pounds as I write this I am nearly 185. I haven’t spoiled nor ruined the privilege of the grant like most people would.. But apparently Nebraska medicine feels that my income from last year or something makes me wealthy as a single parent, and I am unable to afford the shot at the 80 to 20 Offer that they made. I would hate to be a person that has some sort of life-threatening medicine. This would definitely put them in a bad vine.. but I guess if you’re a single parrot and after taxes, your income is around 26 or 2700 and with taxes probably 3500 because they take about almost 400 a check in taxes don’t waste your time Nebraska medicine will let you die so they’re really holding up to that do no harm so if you’re taking a medicine, it is very important and very expensive. It might be a huge waste of time to seek Nebraska medicine’s help disappointed in their new process. Their old process was much more understandable. . And then when you call and you talk to these people, they’re so rude. It must be a job requirement to work at Nebraska medicine. You have to be rude because lately every time I call it’s a rude person.. And then it’s pointless to request a supervisor or a manager, cause you’re told no with a chuckle in your face. So to the person that chuckled on me and told me no, I hope your family member gets a debilitating critical issue and you get the same amount of help. I got yesterday and then you could see.. But this has been a very disappointing experience, a low income program, my foot And I understand there’s criteria but even last year they told me if you make less than 75,000 you’re good well I guess nearly 30,000. That’s wealthy to Nebraska medicine.. So tell you other $30,000 a year earners I guess I’ll see you at the country club. Sam’s Club is what I mean
