Women's Rehab Centers in Washington

Women looking for drug or alcohol treatment in Washington can choose women-only programs or co-ed providers that run a separate women’s track. Just over half of the state’s women’s listings are in town settings. 97 percent are within 25 miles of a river, most often the Sammamish River.

Listings here draw on government treatment registers, state licensing records and accreditor listings, along with details the providers send in themselves. This page covers how priority admission works for pregnant women, which programs make room for children, and how to pay through Washington Apple Health and other routes. You’ll also find what to ask before you call.

Common questions about Women's Rehab

Answered from what is listed here.

Which Washington cities have women's rehabs?

Start a search in Tacoma, Greenwood, Spokane, Yakima or Bellingham, the places where listings for women's rehab in Washington cluster, in that order. Narrowing by place first lets a woman compare women-only programs and travel time before calling any intake team.

Seattle, Tacoma and Lakewood are the larger cities nearby, useful for a woman who wants treatment close to family, a job or her children's schools.

Rehab Centers in Tacomahttps://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/washington/tacoma/
Does Apple Health cover women's rehab in Washington?

Most of the women's rehabs in Washington record accepting Apple Health, the state's Medicaid program. Members are enrolled in a plan such as Coordinated Care of Washington, UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Washington or Wellpoint Washington, and coverage, including substance use disorder treatment, runs through that plan.

Rehab Centers in Washington That Accept Apple Healthhttps://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/washington/apple-health/
Are there women's rehabs near a river in Washington?

Nearly all of the women's rehabs in Washington sit within 25 miles of a river, at a median of about 6.0 miles from each listed facility. The Sammamish River, the West Branch Little Spokane River and the Duwamish River are the rivers named near these programs, giving families a sense of the surrounding area.

Rehab Centers Near Rivershttps://rehabseekers.com/attractions/rivers/

What women-only treatment options are there in Washington?

Women-only options in Washington cover several levels of care, and many women also find a women’s track inside a co-ed program. Listings can include a residential stay, intensive outpatient sessions a few days a week, and standard outpatient care.

A co-ed provider may house women separately and run women’s groups while sharing medical staff, so ask how separate the track is. Some programs list trauma-informed care or co-occurring mental health services. If mental health care matters to you, see dual diagnosis programs in Washington.

Women’s listings lean toward Puget Sound, and most sit within 25 miles of the coast. King County International Airport (Boeing Field) is the most common nearest airport, and the median distance to the closest airport is 9 miles. Tacoma, Spokane, Yakima and Bellingham are among the places with the most listings.

Pregnant women get admission preference at providers funded through the federal block grant, and some programs house children alongside their mothers or provide childcare while sessions run. Ask about age limits and the number of children allowed, how pregnancy care is coordinated, and whether the program admits transgender and nonbinary women.

Admission questions worth asking

Admission rules differ from one program to the next. Ask about:

  • the accepted age range
  • whether the program admits transgender and nonbinary women, and how rooms are assigned
  • which languages staff speak
  • whether the program serves groups such as veterans or tribal members

In Washington, adolescents 13 and older can get outpatient behavioral health treatment without parental consent under RCW 71.34.530.

Do pregnant women get priority for treatment in Washington?

Yes. Pregnant women get admission preference at Washington providers funded through the federal block grant. The Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery at the Washington State Health Care Authority administers the Substance Use Prevention, Treatment, and Recovery Services Block Grant, which supports women’s set-aside services. Under federal rule 45 CFR 96.131, funded providers give preference first to pregnant women who inject drugs and then to other pregnant women with a substance use disorder. The state’s written guidance on this rule dates from 2017, so ask intake staff how the program applies it now. Women with dependent children should also ask whether set-aside services apply to them. Listings are gathered under rehab for pregnant women in Washington.

What to tell a program if you are pregnant or postpartum

Intake staff will want to know how far along you are or when you gave birth, what medicines you take, and who provides your prenatal care. Ask whether the program offers or coordinates medication for opioid use disorder during pregnancy and how it works with your obstetric provider. Don’t stop or taper any medication on your own; any change should happen under medical supervision. Ask Washington Apple Health how long your postpartum coverage lasts.

Can you bring your children to treatment in Washington?

Yes. Some Washington programs let children stay with their mother or offer childcare during sessions, and the listings show which ones do. Residential programs that house children often set age limits and may cap the number of children, so ask about both before admission. Outpatient programs may offer on-site childcare or help with arrangements around session times. If you have an open dependency case, you can also look to local therapeutic courts. The Health Care Authority provides services to courts handling dependency matters under RCW 2.30.030. Options are listed under rehab with childcare in Washington.

How do women pay for treatment in Washington?

Women in Washington can pay for treatment in several ways, depending on what each program accepts: Washington Apple Health, state-funded slots, sliding scale fees, private insurance or TRICARE. Apple Health is the state’s Medicaid program, run by the Health Care Authority. Its managed care plans cover behavioral health, including substance use disorder treatment. Coverage at any one program depends on your plan and the program’s network, so check with both.

Way to payWhat to ask
Washington Apple HealthWhich plans the program works with: Community Health Plan of Washington, Coordinated Care, Molina, UnitedHealthcare Community Plan or Wellpoint
State-fundedWhether set-aside slots are open and how long the wait is
Sliding scaleWhat income proof is needed and what the lowest fee is
Private insurance or TRICAREWhether the program is in network and needs prior authorization

Related listings: Medicaid-accepting programs, state-funded rehab in Washington and sliding scale options.

How is a recovery residence for women different from treatment in Washington?

A recovery residence is a sober living home, not licensed treatment, and it doesn’t provide clinical care. In Washington, treatment providers hold a behavioral health agency license from the Department of Health under chapter 246-341 WAC, and you can look up a provider’s license with the department. Recovery residences work differently. Under RCW 41.05.760, the Health Care Authority keeps a registry of residences certified by an approved Washington-based, nationally recognized certifying organization. Joining the registry is voluntary, so a home that isn’t listed may still operate. Homes are listed under sober living in Washington.

For help finding a program, call the Washington Recovery Help Line at 1-866-789-1511. In a mental health or substance use crisis, call or text 988. The national treatment referral line is another option. To browse every program type, go to the Washington treatment directory, or compare women’s rehab nationwide.
